To everyone following this book series I will release these videos as promised every Saturday night AEST however, I won’t release it via Premiere tonight. I have wished the Princess all our love via a community post on the main channel page, so you can leave your well wishes in the comments below that post! I will pass them on. @ErinAbou Před 4 měsíci +8

Absolutely. I suspect in this way, she’s very much like her great nephew, Harry! Her long relationship with Peter Townsend (I think!) damaged her likelihood to find an decent aristocratic husband, or perhaps a wealthy foreigner, that was closer to her own age. She may have had a much more stable relationship. I also believe that it’s a tragedy that King George VI did not seek higher education opportunities for his daughters, especially for Margaret who was very bright and could have found herself with a whole new world of possibilities for herself.

They were so isolated, there’s a touching story that Elizabeth & Margaret desired to join a Girl Scout troop to do nature things and they had to settle for a few aristocratic daughters to do ‘nature walks’ on palace grounds. While the girls at least had tutors and governesses, there was no formal school and their mother had been brought up the same way which is why Charles going to formal schooling was such a big deal, being the first.

Princess Margaret has my sympathy, to an extent. She was educated at home mostly on her own and not allowed to develop any real talent or actually work at anything. There was no Prince for her to marry so all the training she had from Queen Mary was for nothing. It was too soon for a British royal lady to do anything to a professional standard (hats off to Queen Marguerite of Denmark) . She was wise enough for her children to be allowed to do better it was sad she could not develop something for herself.

Wow, hold back how you really feel. Whilst I am not a big fan , they both were handed a raw deal. Her husband was never meant to be King so the life they were building for themselves was taken away from them. Had Edward stayed on the throne and had no heirs , the queen would not have got to throne until the 1970’s. Margaret may have had a happy marriage, the queen mother would just have been, Bertie’s widow and our queen would have had time to bring up her family. What sort of country would we have been.
Margaret was flawed, but at Xmas, she invited those that supplied her services with discretion, to a cocktail party as a thank you.
When the Queen mother died, I, with a friend, queued to pass her coffin and pay our respects. Not because I was a fan, but she served our country well and out of respect for our Queen. Look how alone the Queen became once her mother and sister passed away. Charlotte, will hopefully, be allowed to either have a career or choose a life of service to William then George as Anne did to her Mother and now Charles. Just my observations and opinions. Remember, there is no handbook just a set of standards to live up to.

She was a young girl during WWII (9-14) and as such we really don’t know how such a young child might react to war including the bombings which also came close to the palace. I have no doubt there was trauma for her and perhaps her reaction to the film was more about reliving childhood feelings and fears than an actual commentary about the film. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.

We had been sickened by the way it ended with the crippling reparations and we wanted nothing to do with this new predictable rise of Germany. My German great-grandfather immigrated to the US in 1882. He wrote a brief autobiography of his life before and his early years in the US for his children. I will always remember my initial experience of seeing Schindler's List in a movie theater on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I was emotionally exhausted at the end of the film and actually had to go home, skip dinner and collapse into bed for a long sleep. I think the movie affected me so much because of the fine acting, but also the effective use of black and white filming. I actually felt like I had lived through that horrible experience along with the characters in the film, and Schindler's List has resonated with me ever since. The brutality and cruelty of the German soldiers, particularly Ralph Fiennes' character, will forever haunt my dreams. Ben Kingsley's character was strong and steadfast, and his gentle manner in consoling a distraught Oscar Schindler was palpable. Liam Neeson's performance as Schindler broke my heart as he comes to the realization at the end of the war of just how many more Jews he could have saved by simply cashing in his wristwatch and other valuable possessions. I will not make any excuses for Princess Margaret's alleged bad behavior that Kitty Kelley describes in her book, but it does make me wonder if she was simply reacting to the way in which the film made her feel. It may have scared her to think that a single film could actually tap into her emotions that way. It certainly is a powerful film that everyone should see at least once in their lives.

Margaret seems like she may have been fun in small doses but completely exhausting and embarrassing a lot of the time. At least she seems to have had common sense and the self awareness to know her personal limitations and accept where, what and who buttered her bread. Attributes her great nephew obviously does not possess. Enjoyed the first chapter review and look forward to the next!

Although I’ve read just about every royal book there is, Kittys really wasn’t a personal favourite, it felt very much like she had an agenda. What do you think?

From what I've read and saw (not as much as you though) I got the impression P.Margarèt was a complete snob and an extravagant spender, possibly one instigation for the slimming down of the monarchy ( not to mention what mustve been saved sjnce getting rid of 'air miles Andy' and of course the Markle wardrobe). Good company perhaps with those of a similar class though.

I cannot wait to listen to your personal opinion on this chapter, you do such marvelous work! With this chapter, my initial and surface takeaway has been the documentation of all the "hidden" truths locked away in Windsor Castle and the private vs the public persona of so many within The Firm. Clearly Princess Margret suffered from what we now know as PTSD regardless of her privileged position during the war. Germanic shame is real, i once met a lady on the beach in the Bahamas who being German in Germany during the war as a young teen cry and apologize about not knowing anything about the Holocaust going on in her country. How sad to feel you must wear the legacy of wrongdoing of others and is carried over today with outcries of reparations for gain from the suffering of forefathers and not your own... (BTW I'm of Jewish heritage). I have compassion for the feelings and trauma of Princess Margaret, a tragic time in history for sure! Cheers, and see you tomorrow!

My Princess Margaret story - My mother adored Princess Margret and Diana, she was drawn to their unhappy stories. One day she was one of the staff choosen to be presented, so she worked extra hard on her uniform to look her best. Princess Margret noticed her, and complimented her appearence, at which my mother saluted her and said "washed and ironed it myself ma'm."
That little kindness my mother remembered for years, and my mother was a working class black woman. I'm not sure Margaret was racist. She spent a lot of time in Jamaica and was rumoured to have very young black gigolo's. Antisemitic maybe. But remember there are pictures of her and the Queen doing Nazi salutes. Even Churchill had weird idea's about India, and contraception was first created to reduce the working class population. Many people were at first sympathetic to such ideas that were based Darwin. Then Hitler started his horrible march acrotss Europe and the terrible reality of where these thoughts could lead. Times were different then.

I know two things - absolute fact - about Princess Margaret. When King George V1 died, my older brother had joined the Royal Navy (submarines; very scary, different story.) He was very devil may care, never took anything seriously. He was on guard outside Westminster Abbey. When the royal family were leaving, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret were getting into the carriage by him. He was astounded by PM. He returned home completely dazzled by her. He said she had the most beautiful complexion he had ever seen on a woman, it was so glowing and flawless. Never seen my brother that impressed before! Many decades later, I had a friend who moved in certain circles, who had an aunt with a country estate, who was in the group of friends, close to the Princess. They all absolutely dreaded getting a phone call . with little or no notice, announcing that she would grace them with her presence for the weekend. She was the guest from hell; to say she was very demanding would probably be a gross understatement. Also, she would drink and smoke, play the piano, sing and dance unflaggingly, until daylight. Everyone else would be worn out, desperate to go to bed; but it was NOT permissible for anyone to retire before the Princess.

"Margo" Princess Margaret was ONLY so desperatly loyal to her sister; the Queen because it served HER to be "the sister" of the most admired and respected" woman in the world. To hold everyone around her to such high standards with reguard to her sister would mean those same people would need to treat her in the same manner.

Princess Margaret had her faults, but don’t we all. I actually like the fact that she was grand. She was the daughter of a king and the sister of the queen. She was well aware of her station in life and the limitations and lack of freedom that came with that. She could also be a kind and raised two beautiful, well-adjusted children. And honestly, her dedication to the queen was unfaltering, and that deserves respect as well.

Yo, Shauna (Its a Philly thing, sorry😁)
Hiya Shauna and thanks for Chapter 1. Margo was quite a character, no one could argue differently.
I’m a bit confused over something. There is still an aristocratic class in the UK, yeah? In everyone of those families, with more than 1 child, there’s an Heir & a Spare, isn’t there? So, there were plenty of them
in William & Harry’s classes, who were one or the other. I’m trying to understand why H says, he hated his life in the UK because he was the Spare? He stopped being a Spare with the birth of George. I can’t, for the life of me, remember if the British Press was constantly on H as the Spare?? One would think, and rightly so, that H should have reconciled his place in the family. One would also think his classmates, 2nd born, would have helped H, understand the “lay of the land.”
Unless across the breath & depth of the country, there are battles between the oldest & a younger brother going on now.
Actually, I have even less interest in H&MM today than I had up to Catherine’s statement yesterday. I wish, they would become so irrelevant that a hundred parking lot paps, would be ignored. They do not have anything I’m interested in. They’ve been given way too much attention. That would go a long way in silencing the sugars, don’t you think?
Thanks for your patience today..I’ve been hit with wicked, seasonal allergies & a head cold & the medicine might be clouding my ability to think straight. YAY! Finally, an excuse other than old age!😁Thanks for what you do Shauna. It’s truly appreciated! 💙💙

Hi Shauna. I love your new dark bookcases. Can’t wait to get into the next chapter. So interesting.
I think Queen Mum, Elizabeth and Margaret all were from that old era. I think Elizabeth adapted because she at a younger age married a stable, solid man and started a family- then boom she is Queen. Margaret is left to fend for herself because her sister was running a country and constantly touring. Then you had the 60s and the start of the sexual revolution and she seemed to prefer to hang out with the celebrity set which I’m sure didn’t have her best interest at heart. And I think the cherry on top was when she wasn’t allowed to marry, Peter Townsend because he was divorced. And look at what the members of the royal family are allowed to marry now … a certain mattress actress comes to mind.

I never cared much for Princess Margaret either. It seems funny to me that with David and "Bertie" the Universe made a huge mistake with birth order and it had to be corrected in a very dramatic way with Edward III's abdication. After that the Universe has been much better at getting the birth order correct with Elizabeth being first before Margaret, Charles before Andrew and William before Harry!
