    I love you! Let me preface this by saying...I am from Brooklyn. When I was a freshman in high school (1984, I was 12 until the end of September), everyone wore that concealer stick as lipstick with one of those red eyebrow pencils in brown as lip liner. I tried it the first week of school and it looked awful on my very fair skin. My grandmother was a vaudeville and broadway actress when she was young. She was made over by Max Factor himself when she was young. She knew contouring and bronzing (she called it shading) from being on the stage. She took makeup very seriously and she was stunning! She also hated that lip combo. For each of her granddaughters, for your 13th birthday, she made an appointment at Merle Norman to have the makeup artist there teach you how to take care of your skin and put on makeup for your coloring and face shape and she bought you all the skin care and makeup the lady used on you. I remember it costing well over $250 even back then. I still remember the things that lady taught me about MY eye shape and MY face shape and so on. I hear her vocie and my grandmother's vocie in my head as I do my brows and line my lips and I never followed trends except colors. I survived the 90's without making my brows super thin and I never contoured my nose. I always do what looks best on me. I enjoy your channel so much and I am certain my grandmother would have loved you. Be well!

    Showing my age here! Haha. I'm 58. I grew up playing and learning with my mama's Avon makeup. She actually had an Avon lady come to our house every week! As I got older I used ponds cold cream at night to wash my face then noxzema in the mornings. When I got my own job later I only used cover girl clean makeup, concealer that I thought went on first, and yes that stick kind. Shimmering sands on my eyes, no liner, cover girl blush and lipstick then Maybelline great lash mascara. Then come the 90s and mama bought Bare Minerals everything off QVC. She had me on the autoship even!! After she died in 2005 I couldn't afford that myself so I switched to loreal true match. I used that for a very long time! Honestly I'd say it wasn't till maybe 10 years ago, with CZcams's help that I tried different stuff. Now I have more than I can ever use up. Oh!! And mama always said ladies don't ever leave the house without your lipstick on!!! Dang I miss my mama.

      We did that in Middle School too! Sometimes it would be so hot, you'd get a blob on your waterline! I'm sure that heat wasn't good for that sensitive area, but it worked! I never line my waterline anymore...it closes in my already small eyes...I prefer to smudge a light-med shade of eyeshadow underneath the eye - a much softer look! Oh the evolution of makeup and us!

      I used baby powder or "translucent" too, but I'm still the palest of the pale lol. I never wore foundation as there were none pale enough. Rimmel hide the blemish concealer wasn't a great match, but I guess it hid some of the redness of a pimple - it was so obvious on me though lol due to being far off in shade. It was the palest available in a more affordable brand at the time though.

    I remember my mom using Maybelline mascara that came in a little red box with the mascara in a cake in a tray that slid out from the box. It also had a little brush that looked like a very small toothbrush. She dampened the brush with water, and rubbed it on the cake, and used it on her lashes, and brushed the last of it on her eyebrows. I remember seeing her use it as late as 1974 or 75.

They're hard enough to last in the car or my purse without melting or chipping, and they still need to be sharpened Everytime you use them. But they must be selling ok, they're still making them! $2.99 for two on a card, and you can get them at every grocery store in town! And, as I recently discovered, they're creamy-waxy enough to write a nastygram on the car window of a rude driver who parked sloppy! There's something special about buying beauty and skin care products from the drugstore that have been around for decades. I get more joy from that than I did when I used to buy a Chanel liquid eyeliner $50 for a pop. Now it's much more about quality per $ spent, than it is about having the designer products.

    I buy a new tube of L’Oréal Voluminous mascara in blue EVERY SINGLE SUMMER! Now that’s a blue mascara that REALLY shows up! I love that mascara!💙 Especially when I pair it w/a red-burgundy liner on the lid. It gives such a pretty & unique effect that you’d have to see or try yourself. The 2 separate colors create this purple effect but the colors never physically blend. It’s hard to describe. But I get so many compliments or questions about what I have on my eyes. It’s so pretty.especially once I’m tan. I hope L’Oréal never d/c’s that mascara! 💙

    The main brands I remember in the drugstore back in the mid 1970s when I first started wearing makeup (age 13 or so) were Maybelline, Cover Girl, Revlon and Max Factor... plus Aziza (powder blue eyeshadow, anyone?? lol). We didn't use brushes. We only used the little sponge applicators that were included, lol. I remember using foundation for eyeshadow primer. Cover Girl translucent pressed powder was my go to for setting makeup. The most fun products were the lipsticks and the scented roller glosses. I always had rosy cheeks, so I never used blush until I was in my 30s (now I love it, lol). I didn't use eyeliner until I was 16 when Mom took me to the Estee Lauder counter for this soft refillable pencil liner in black. Also, I didn't realize I was fair-skinned, believe it or not. lol All of my friends were medium-beige, so that's what I wore. lol But there weren't a lot of shade options in the '70s, either. We've come a long way, baby! LOL~!

    CG clean liquid is still my go to after all these years, great for older skin (52). Light not heavy yet buildable, luminosity for dull skin and I find it does not cake or crease in the wrinkles! I also feel it keeps my skin looking healthy- possibly the noxema ingredient! Give it a whirl again girls. I have tried high end foundation and can afford it! It’s just I prefer this!

    Class of 83, My high school go to products were covergirl professional mascara. Who remembers the maybelline the duo red pencils in brown shades? They were for brows or liner, and I’d soften the tip with a lighter and create the sphinx look by tight lining the top and bottom inner waterline. I used various lip glosses, and when I needed shine reduction covergirl clean powder creamy natural, oh and the gentle rose blush. Blast from the past. My mom was all about revlon. I eventually switched to the 2000 calorie lash, and both the classic L’Oréal and revlon lipsticks in my young adult years .

    I love this! Old school has been my favorite lately. I'm 56, and been feeling the nostalgia for simpler times, so the other day I did a Walmart shopping trip! I got CG clean liquid makeup and pressed powder, classic blush and continuous color lipstick. Since CG sadly has discontinued the clean pressed powder with the Noxema scent I ordered it on eBay! I also got White Shoulders perfume, a Revlon lipstick and I'm loving being back to basics. Started using CG in 1981, moved on to high end and the prices of high end makeup has become ridiculously expensive!! Besides, there's something about drugstore beauty that soothes the soul like a warm bowl of chicken soup.

    I remember Rum Raisin from Revlon; I think Raisin Rage might have come later. What I like about Revlon's stick lipstick is the very flattering wearable colors; not color for shock value, but to beautify the face. They feel comfortable on the lips too. Coty Airspun (I have the regular translucent) does seem to go on heavy. After I apply it with the puff, I take a clean brush and lightly sweep almost all of it away and it looks stellar after that. Thanks for doing this video. I see a couple of products I need to go buy. ;-)

    I still use the Coty Airspun powder every day. I could go without the scent but I feel like it performs just as well as higher end powders I’ve tried. I do use a very fluffy brush and a light hand to apply it and I find that it doesn’t look heavy when applied that way.

    • @curioworkshop6941
      @curioworkshop6941 Před 2 lety

      Yes I think also using a lighter weight concealer is key as well. If I put too thick a concealer layer under my eyes the powder creases my under eye badly. I usually apply just a smidge with a brush under my eyes, use a puff to apply to the rest of my face, and then a big brush to brush off any excess powder and I have yet to find a powder I like more.
