- Many have asked me about this, and I'm so happy to finally be releasing this video. Today I share with you my experience on how I was able to get that highly praised NAT Type 1 connection from the PlayStation 4. What I love about NAT Type 1, as opposed to Type 2 or 3, is that this setting update has substantially improved my multiplayer connection stability in massive online gameplay, such as in Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone. By following these few quick steps, you too can enjoy the massive PlayStation Network benefits that NAT Type 1 has to offer!

Because its primarily an isp option...some may let dmz through ...im always nat type 2 even with dmz

I know this will improve your latency for online multiplayer but it will also make you more vulnerable to bad actors, so make sure you understand the risks of giving your device a public IP address.
and what is bad actors?

I just can’t find more explanation into the downsides of it or risks. I know you’ll be in the dmz zone of the internet but can’t find a video explaining how you will actually be exposed to malicious attacks.

Just a sidenote since I work at tech support in my local ISP.. after following these great instructions on how to get Nat Type 1.. if you do all these steps and still have Nat Type 3 you have to call your tech support of your ISP and you can request disabling private IP adress or turning the CGNat off. After that you can check your Nat Type and if It's type 2 then you are good to go with these instructions in order to get type 1.

Some Routers lacks settings that do not offer NAT switching options. And it may take forever for your internet provider to make the adjustments (over the phone for me). Also you can find a simpler form of your PS4 information in System> System Information.
NAT TYPE 2 is still the recommended configuration for you to have best of both worlds, security and bandwidth latency. If you do not know the acronym of NAT type, your should probably research more and educate yourself on the implication of opening your device to a public address.

NAT type 1 will give faster connection speeds but doesn’t it also have the least amount of security? It gives the console full access to the internet without any firewall whereas NAT 2 provides some restrictions?

I read on Google that says that I might fix disconnection problems but it should never be put in NAT type 1, because of security reasons.

Hey John! I followed your steps and enabled DMZ for my PS4's IP address but when I test my connection, Im still showing NAT type 2. I did add port information to my PS4's IP prior, would that prevent the NAT type from changing?

Don't even try to get nat type 1 you would be more vulnerable to malicious attacks like ddossing

If I know the appropriate ports for a specific game, would Port Forwarding achieve the same goal while maintaining the safety of Nat Type 2?

Okay so, if Nat 1 makes you more, "public" does that by proxy make you prone to hacking?
If yes, then does a VPN account (like Nord or whatever ect.) solve this issue or would it still not matter?
For a gaming application like the PlayStation it won't make a difference. I have never experienced any issues, nor observed anyone else ever having issues, as a result of having an Open NAT (Type 1) on the PSN.
I mean if you went into a playstation party and someone wants to ddos you then they could od it easily

Hi I’m on PS5 using an Xfinity router (the singular black box they give by default) I disabled my security entirely on the routers firewall via pc but I still can’t get to type 1 NAT? i was looking for DMZ options on pc but it sends me to the app and I didn’t see it anywhere on the app. I also reset a bunch of times between this to be sure. Any clue what I might be missing? I’m NAT type 2 currently and also was wondering if I turned off my wifi entirely would it make my ethernet cable connection more stable?
Idk if this comment will get any answer but, I did everything and set my ps4 host for dmz, I restarted my ps4 at first it said nat type 1 but a few minutes later it went back to nat type 3 and it stayed like that ever since, what happened? Can i fix this?
When you change your Dmz does it take a while for the nat type to change

Fuse Thank you! It was difficult making this video for all scenarios like types of routers and service providers. If this way I presented isn't working for you try surfing on Google and finding the easiest way to gain access to your gateway/router with your specific service provider

This is a really good question: as far as I know, in order to allow the PlayStation to go into NAT 1 through your router is to log in (via IP address in a browser) or if there’s an application that allows you to change router settings through a mobile device. I haven’t found a way to get NAT 1 by adjusting settings directly from the PlayStation yet
My question is what would happen if you forget about the router and just plug the internet direct to the ps5 I'm not a computer guy as it may be a stupid question

If your here now on ps4 if you go to connection status, it shows your IP next to " Default Gateway".

My router settings only show the option to add a "DMZ Host" on it and that's it. Didn't see any "DMZplus" option.
What is the diffrence with NAT types? What changes? Im confused on that
NAT type changes how open your connection is to the PSN. A more open connection allows you to find more users, and therefore a more optimal match, to join so that matchmaking yields the lowest ping and lag.
