The way he presented his work makes him very trustworthy. To be honest and say that he doesn’t know and also to make sure his audience understand that he is hypothesizing when presenting his ideas. It’s rare nowadays.

One thing to also note is Narmer's, his servant's and his enemy's garb. bareback and barefooted like other parts of Africa. Narmer also has a leopard's tail, which is typically worn in East Africa.

Thank you. Did I even take a breath watching this? I suppose so. This guy is captivating. I feel that if he was a teacher of mine back in the 1960s I would have learned more?

I deeply admire Dr Brier ..
Please remember, Sir, that Walter Emery was the first to translate the hieroglyphic ideogram for the NER or NAR species of fish...he translated Narmer as the "Striking Catfish."

You can also clearly see that the conquered look completely different from the Pharaoh and his servants. The Servants all have nappy hair while the conquered have straight hair...

One thing not mentioned in this video is how that artists of the Narmer palette intentionally carved the faces of the enemies different to those of the Egyptians, including Narmer.
Play close attention to the figure being trampled by the Bull. His long and curved nose couple with his straight hair and long beard give me “Asiatic” vibes. The man Narmer is holding by the hair most likely personifies Lower Egypt’s native population.
The slain enemies beneath Narmer’s feet resemble the other man being trampled by the bull. Perhaps they represent invaders of Lower Egypt that were defeated by Narmer’s forces. Or maybe they personify different regions of the north that Narmer conquered one by one.
One thing is clear though, that the enemies on the palette were purposefully shown to have a different phenotype than that of the Egyptians. Look closely at the Egyptians curly Afros or buzz cuts. Their small noses and full lips. This was wasn’t random carvings, but deliberate to portray how the people really looked. Ancient Egyptian artists were very detail oriented. Even to a pedantic level.
    Food for thought. 🧐

The longer you look at the pallette the more things you notice, for instance; False beards are supposed to be a sign of kingship but, the guy who is being smited/smitten is also wearing a false beard, as are many of the beheaded.

    • @KingOfWicca
      @KingOfWicca Před 3 lety +4

The smited wearing the false beard is probably a king of one of the many nomes that narmer had to conquer to unite Egypt into a whole. Before the unification Egypt was split into nomes ruled by individual war lords and kings which had to be conquered to unify Egypt under one rule.

I would wager very few artifacts were all done by a single artist.

Or lower Egypt carved them and upper Egypt carved them different that's how you could tell them apart

@@EgyptologyLessons oh dear...oh my, don't even try to think about it. It's the polar opposite of what you probably believe.
Anyway addressing the Younger Dryas point by OP, YD is a period characterized by rapid temperature drop 12.9k-11.7k yrs BP.
There are many ideas of it's cause & effect on humans.
As for advanced civilization, there is no known "advanced" civilization by today's standards dating to that period. But there was arguably highly advanced groups by their time standards that built the gobekli tepe & such.
There are published theories of comet impact & cataclysm & pre cataclysm settlements that were greatly affected but I don't remember the full study or peer review.
Needless to say the fertile crescent is rewriting history whether the main stream archeology likes it or now.
