    I have to tell you my David Austin rose story. We live in Somerset, CA and were evacuated due to the caldor fire. I was so sad because I just planted my Abraham Darby and Heritage DA roses in pots two weeks prior. I had made peace with the fact they would probably be dead when we returned 2 and a half weeks later. To my amazement they were still alive and well! I'm delighted to say the least! It must be the water retained in the soil. The leaves are nice and green and the Heritage rose even has two buds forming! Love all your rose expertise, thank you.

    Thanks Paul! It's been killer out here but I'm taking your advice to heart and next year I'm going to be prepared ahead of Summer.

    Hi Paul. Thanks for the awesome videos mate, really look forward to new uploads!
    This is an interesting topic for me as I grow quite a few roses here in Western Australia, every year seems to be record heat and drought for us (125f temps pretty much daily) the plus side is the roses here produce flowers all year round and grow like wildfire! Nice to see how our cousins over in the US handle the heat :)

      I had that when I lived in Los Angles, CA. Roses all season. I will admit I don't mind the winter rest for the roses any myself!

    Here on Vancouver island BC Canada has been a drought for 3 months and stage 4 no watering. Only water fruit and vegetables. Can hand water other plants. We live two block from the sea and have some humidity. Just had two days of rain and still need more.

    I lost two minni rose plants that i planted this spring. It was in high 90’s so i watered them every couple days cause it was hot and very dry and i had just planted them. They got over watered i guess… the leaves got all crispy and then the stem turned brown. One is still alive.
    Ive been setting a chair over it because its in late afternoon sun. I dont think i will plant anymore of these.

      Crispy leaves is usually under watering. Soggy is over watering. covering the one that is still alive should help.

    Hello Paul. Great post. I’m in NJ and grow my roses mostly in pots. I gave them a dose of rose tone earlier this month but we’ve been pummeled with rain since then. Should I hit them again with rose tone? Always appreciate and share your videos 🌹

      I would just go as per directions on the label in terms of how often.

      Sue I live in the desert and we try not to get water on roses because once the sun hits droplets it burns the leaves.

      Thanks for the great video. On the note about watering roses in pots, I watered 2 roses that were planted spring 2020 - 2x a day sometimes during our awful period of 110+ degrees for 100+ days in a row. 9b Phoenix. They developed the dreaded fungus gnats, which I got rid of with diligent care. But be careful. Those roses survived and are thriving but the gnats got pretty bad.

    So the east gets japanese beetles in summer, and the west gets prohibitively dry conditions in summer. Seems like nature doesn't want us to have roses in the summer 😕

    Could you recommend roses that have thick green leaves. I can only think of Kordes any suggestions on Antique Roses ?

    • @Paulzimmermanroses
      @Paulzimmermanroses  Před 3 lety +1

      You won't find many in Antique Roses to be honest. Those kind of leaves tend to be modern roses. Kordes of course and you might also check out the website of Star Roses and Plants. They also tend to carry roses along those lines. End of the day it's probably going to come down to looking at websites or roses in person to see which ones have leaves like that.
