While watching this I think I realized a big reason why Revenge works as a season (even if it's not my personal favorite or anything) and why All Stars doesn't, and that's because of specifically the cast of Revenge. Characters like Jo, Lightning, Dawn, and Scott work so well in this season because their personality is made to be played off of the other characters. Dawn foreshadowing Mike's DID and a lot of Jo and Lightning's interactions for example is something that really only works in this season. In All Stars, so many characters feel like they were so wasted because the writers really didn't know what to do with them, so they had weird plotlines with a bunch of holes that didn't make sense (Mike, Courtney, Zoey) or just no plot at all (Lindsay, Lightning). I think this is because characters like Lightning weren't really made to interact with characters from the original cast, so the season fell flat. There are a bunch of other problems with All Stars don't get me wrong, but I think this is a big one that caused it to be much worse than the first 4 seasons.
I mean Lindsay and Lightning were only there for 2 episodes, expecting them to be super important characters is asking for too much, or are you going to argue Staci was this super important character too in ROTI? No, she was just a first boot only there to get eliminated first.
I’m not sure if this is the case. I’d argue almost the opposite, that All-Star failed to give us potentially interesting interactions between the two casts. Like there’s Scott and Courtney and a tiny bit of Cameron befriending Gwen, but not much else beyond that. I did enjoy things like Mal versus Alejandro and Heather clashing with Jo, but both of those only lasted one or two episodes.
Like Sierra treating Cameron like Cody is boring and doesn’t really tell us anything new about Sierra and doesn’t really bring out anything interesting in Cameron. I think All-Stars had plenty of potential and the failure came down to just really bad character writing.
I do agree that the characters were made to play off each other, and honestly that's a good way to write a season. But I disagree with Lightning having no potential in an all stars season. The writers plucked out the least interesting version of him to use (ignoring his implied backstory and his relationships with both Cameron and Jo), and then flanderized that version to make him dumber than he's ever been.

I feel like Scott and Joe compliment each other as antagonists really well as having the rats always lose thanks to Scott as the secret more imposter type villain alows Joe to be the more outwardly antognistic threat in the premerge. Its important that the maggots keep winning because if they lost Joe would almost certainly get voted out.
this antagonistic structure to the season alows for two great villains that stay in the game not thanks to BS like Heather. I do love heather she is iconic and a better villain than Joe and Scott but no way should she have made it that far realisticaly.
revenge has a consistant antogonistic threat all the why through the show and it is done so well.
I also love how the finale boss is not Joe or Scott but lighting as his twist villain ark genuinly makes sense and he makes a great finale boss for comeron.
Great list! One thing I've always loved about ROTI is the antagonistic energy. Jo, Lightning, Scott and even to an extent Vito and Anne Maria. So much villainous energy that lasts so long throughout the season!
Yeah, Mike... He's not a good representation for people with DID to any extent. But I don't think he's OFFENSIVELY bad until All-Stars. The main problems are just the outdated language they use to refer to DID and his alters, the idea of an "evil alter", *the reset button...* And the fact that the disorder is basically his whole shtick. But I mean... I don't expect much better from early Total Drama.
All that said though... He's still nice and entertaining to watch. One of my favorites in the series. ^-^
With my limited knowledge of DID, hes really not a bad representation until all stars (who ruined all but like 2 characters) so if its just this season, hes kinda like a starting point for people to learn about this
That's fair. I only wish they used more up to date language in ROTI, or even in AS. But again, I'm not too surprised they didn't.
I'd also like to clarify that I don't have DID myself, nor am I ANY kind of expert before this gets too far.
@@TheGodIvy He's a bad rep for me. Mike has no personality and his alters are treated as his "main character quirk" instead of being a person with DID. Zee did the disability rep so much better.

Also, as someone who really liked Mike when TDRI came out, most people dint seem that botherd by his DID portrayal, most people seemed happy that someone with DID was portrayed as the good guy, and he, nor his other personalities, never tried to hurt anyone.
Its when it comes to All Stars it gets bad....
(I do not have DID this is just from my observations from being obesses about TD on the internet)
Before All Stars, Mike was in the top 3 in almost everyones rankings and I have seen many people with DID themselves praise his character, so it's a shame that All Stars wrote it so badly, especially in the finale with the reset button, the reception it got was so bad that I'm comvinced Mike is the only character in the show's history who will never come back again.
Hot take- Dawn is my favorite female in all of total drama. She suffers what a lot of my favorite characters did by being eliminated so early. I think we need an antonym of total drama all stars if every character who hasn’t made it past the merge.
Sam didn't pass the merge and he was in All Stars.

I don't think "every" pre-merge character, but I have actually been thinking a lot about the idea of a Total Drama Redemption cast. These are the teams I came up with quite some time ago.
Team A: DJ, Harold, Lindsay, Tyler, B, Dawn, Jasmine, Mickey, Crimson
Team B: Noah, Eva, Izzy, Zeke, Brick, Anne-Marie, Ella, Beardo, Jacques

I like you placements, and I generally agree with most of them, maybe a few changes here and there but all around the same. Also, I personally would have liked to see where you would have placed mikes individual personalities (though i might be in the minority on that opinion lol). I do agree their a package deal but I feel like it's fun to see which one people liked most, since all of them play some sort of plot relevant role, and I'd argue work as their own characters on occasion. (for me, I rank them: Svetlana, Vito, Mal, Manitoba, Chester. In order of highest to lowest)
To be honest I actually really like revenge of the island and never really understood the hate too much outside of the 13 episode change. I think why i like it is most likely down to the fact that when i got into Total drama it was in between world tour and Revenge so it was the first one i actually experienced when it was airing rather than watching it after the fact, and some older characters were kind of getting a bit stale for me so it was a nice breath of fresh air in my opinion.
However i have to pretty much agree with your list, since that's pretty much the same way i feel about the characters, I probably would put Jo in fantastic though, think she's by far my favorite of the season but i can also get your placement there's just something about her that i really like. I wish they didn't do the 13 episode format at this point since i still feel like some of the cast had good potential to have more episodes with.. Still kind of pains me that most of the cast didn't get much after Revenge and those that did weren't that great.

Hey, I don’t know if you know this but I wanna say it, have you ever heard of Disventure Camp? It’s a fan made CZcams series that’s inspired by total drama and to avoid copyright issues they take more themes of survivor instead of total drama. It’s actually a really good series and they have finished the first season and are starting the next season. The host for Disventure Camp is actually Chris’s daughter named Kristal and it’s so crazy and interesting at the same time. I hope after the revenge of the island video you make a review on Disventure Camp because it’s honestly such a good series that it not only deserves more praise but considers to be a total drama season. It has some issues with editing and audio but overall it has the same vibes as island so I hope you give it a shot once!!!!
And by "avoid copyright issues" you mean 2 different lawsuits by FreshTV, which they somehow avoided both as DC shouldve stopped, as well as doing the exact opposite after the 2nd one with DC as at least 4 episodes are challenges from the actual series (mostly from TDI)
Cameron was my favorite in the series, his character growth is just 🤌
I remember being in a Total Drama fan group and the entire community was saying that Sugar was the best thing that happened to Total Drama and it made me go absolutely insane, thank god you understand the hatred I harbor for Sugar lmao

I think the best way to handle Mike and his DID is to understand that Mike is a character not a real person as well as the fact that every character in Total drama has traits to them that are exaggerated for the sake of it being a cartoon. In other words while Mike isn’t a great ‘representation’ of the actual disorder he has, no other character is a great representation for the archetype they’re meant to portray, and while this is more leaning into talking about his portrayal in All Stars, his arc in that season in the context of subtext is that he’s a person who’s trying to put behind the negative things he’s done in his past because he’s moved on and grown as a person. Viewing him in that context and given the fact we’re supposed to sympathize with Mike, I don’t think it’s worth getting too upset how he depicts his condition, especially since other characters like The adversity twins from The Ridonculous Race exist and no one really comments on how they depict a lot of the conditions they suffer from.
That's definitely a reasonable take. Honestly, I'm just walking on eggshells when it comes to talking about this kind of stuff in videos. I've seen certain CZcamsrs/creators get seriously maimed online over seemingly milquetoast takes on the whole subject matter and honestly I just don't want to speak on something in-depth that people get so angry about.
@@switch2e The best thing you can really do is just say you're here to talk about the season itself, the plot, and its characters as they're presented, You can acknowledge that there is a conversation to be had, but that's not what you're here to discuss about in the video. This is just a suggestion, and it's what I think is the best way to tackle the discussion, while not going in-depth into it.

Yes I know but it’s still a weird unfitting joke. It’s a pun, but it’s a weird long shot; since when do people say stakes come from trees? They’re often made of wood, but no one ever says stakes come from trees like that. It’s like saying “chairs come from trees” because chairs are often made of wood.

Good list, Also Here’s my list:
13th Staci - in my opinion she was pretty boring and anoying and I feel there’s not much to do with her character! In my opinion.
12: Ann Maria - I never actually liked her I found her annoying especially with her interactions with mikes personality Vito! She’s a good. Character I just don’t really care that much about her.
11: B - sorta mid and the fact that he dosnt really talk makes him kinda filler but I still put respect towards him but if I were to add I’m in a season I need to do something big with him but I just don’t know what,
10, Dakota - what’s putting her lie on my list, was her character downfall in the middle of the season where she kinda got the world tour Ezekiel treatment so I liked her better as a human than a giant monster.
09: Scott - he’s a good character kinda overrated but what’s keeping me from liking him was in the episode were he blackmailed mike over a mental disorder and that’s not okay I rate this worse than Duncan and Harold rivalry and grandchef auto was my least favorite episode in revenge of the island, but besides that he did have other enjoyable moments that never involved that which is why I neutral on him.
08: zoey - I used to like her but I kinda feel sorta lost some interest in her but I still like her just not as much as I used to but I don’t have much to say for her.
7: sam - I liked him because he was funny and that’s it.
6: lightning - some people don’t like this guy but I liked him and he didn’t really annoy me like Scott or ann Maria did as villan characters! I love his catchfrase and his rival with jo!
5: jo - speaking of witch jo was actually a fun character I love her rivalry with both lighting and brick and he never anoyed me as a villain character.
4: Cameron - I liked him in both seasons and I enjoyed him as a finalist and he may looked weak but she’s still smart enough to try to win a season.
3: Dawn - interesting character what makes her so unique is that she can Reed people auras if that’s even true but who know her character got wasted after five whole episodes and deserved better treatment like brick, Tyler, Noah, etc:
2: brick: my second favorite Gen 2 character I thought he was pretty awesome and deserved to be in allstars!
1: mike: a controversial character in my opinion, some my theory on why people don’t want him to return thinking he’s a negative stereotype and I can understand that, I like mike because I feel bad for him other then that fact that he’s enjoyable and I love his Friendship with Cameron and Zoey and they were awesome as a trio!!
That’s my list also my opinion if anyone is disagrees that cool I respect everyone else’s opinions.

I was honestly liking revengr of the island season more than avrage fans of the show because i enjoyed with nitpicks, small details about characters but that was all... scotts extra clip was make me like him more but he is still a 6/10 for me as a character...

I assume because they wanted to bring back old favorites just for a bit of fun and to ease the transition to the new cast
@switch2e that could be a part of it but I also wonder if they wanted to guarantee some role appearances to past cast members who were not returning to give them a bit of money. And possibly it works like the US where you need so many roles credited to stay in the union so the showrunners help them out.

I always kinda felt, even from the start, that Scott was a bit of an idiot. I don't the writers had any intention to have him be on the same level as Heather and Alejandro. He's more comparable to Justin (not in how they act, but in that they're not maniacal masterminds). His slight inept-ness when it comes to being truly villainous kinda added to his charm in my eyes. He loves to scheme and act deceptive and villainous, but he can't quite back it up (like how bad of a liar he is, and that his "throwing challenges" strategy didn't make a ton of sense if you thought too hard about it). Say what you will about All-Stars' quality in literally every aspect, but the fact that he kinda got sidelined when it came to how much of a villain he was made a fair amount of sense.
