Going back to SG, wasn't TD's whole thing in its OG run taking characters who start off flat and one-dimensional stereotypes and making them shockingly nuanced people overtime? Why couldn't they just do that with Scary Girl? Yes, I am attempting to compensate for her being my favorite, thank you for noticing!
Fleshing out stereotypical characters was its thing. They also had more episodes to develop characters and pace the story.

Man I was really hopeful for that clueless loser to get some actual character development. After seeing all the other characters become more interesting over the course of season 1, then suddenly they bring Ezekiel back? I thought oh man, I can't wait to see what kind of character he turns into if they can make me like someone like Heather! But nope... he's the one and only character they never tried to do anything with, for no apparent reason. Just turned him into an unfunny recurring joke with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

Despite this, after her audition tape, it felt like that aspect of herself - The Indie Chick was supposed to be her archetype, mind you - was just completely forgotten and she became Mike's satellite love interest.
Scary girl made the show interesting until she was out and then drama happened when Julia was exposed 😭which made me interested again after loosing lauren

Seeing someone "dislike" the reboot is honestly a breath of fresh air to me. I did like the reboot quite a bit but it has so many flaws that I feel like most people just don't talk about because they're blinded by us finally getting a new Total Drama season. And yeah the way this show has been released is dog shit, I want to rewatch it mainly to see if my opinions would change but I just don't know where I can. I don't really understand your dislike for Bowie. To me, he was by far the best character of the cast: he's a villain, or at least a pretty antagonistic force at least in season 1, but he's also pretty grounded: he's not overly "evil", as shown by his friendship with Emma or his relationship with Raj, he's just a dude that plays to win and is willing to stoop pretty low at times(like breaking millie and priya's friendship) to do so. You said that no character besides Julia is good in both seasons, and that no characters has an arc across both seasons, and I'd have to disagree again, pointing at Bowie: his arc and social standing in Season 2 is right on the back of Season 1. He's despised by most of the cast because of what he did during Season 1, which makes him a social paraih and a very easy first merge boot, and he tries to become a better person and tone down with the cheating despise his worst instincts due to his boyfriend that he made in Season 1, Raj. The snowball fight against Julia MK and Ripper in Episode 5 is the climax of that, when he finally puts his boyfriend and their relationship above the game and his desire to win. He then gets eliminated one episode later by offscreen Julia schenanigans. So yeah, I love Bowie. He's also very funny imo. The whole "YOUU! MEEE!" thing when he eliminates Julia in Season 1, him moonwalking in episode 4 season 2, he's just very iconic
I don't really dislike Bowie. I just didn't care too much for him ig. Objectively, he is one of the best characters in s1, and he is pretty similar in s2. So yeah, I was probably wrong when I said Julia was the only one equally good in both.

Chris has to be one of more subtle yet extreme case of flanderization. It's something I didn't notice until I went back to the first season but he was actually pretty chill towards the survivors with some very slight narcissistic traits here and there but in the later seasons they basically turned him into a war criminal

as an Italian , Total drama island was on TV live on the most popular kids TV CHANNEL (Boing and K2) , so we had to watch either that or Teen Titans Go/Gumball (or atleast at night)
since it was streamed mainly on dinner time I think thats why it got successful! :D
sad thing is that the episodes kept getting looped over and over again cause obviously the series ended and they had to repeat it.p!
So thats probably why they decided to dub it in italian first! (cause it still streams on TV till this day!)

I liked Scary Girl the most in the new show and they used her name in one episode.
People wanted Priya to finish her arc about her parents and/or get with Damien. S1 wasted our time going on and on about how awful the parents are and usually played it straight. And Damien's arc would've easily intertwined with Priya's screenhogging + her TD experience.

Frankly I'm kind of confused why they seem to target this towards gen z? I'm considered late gen z and yet I'm 17, presumably not the target audience? I watched the OG show as a kid. Presumably the audience would be gen alpha. It seems to pander more towards gen z instead of the younger generation, although I suppose you could argue it is marketed to gen alpha, but given the fact that the whole theme of it is "its a reboot", I find it hard to see how its a kids show- its more so a show for kids who grew up the OG total drama.

Italian here, and yes, Total Drama has been really popular for ages here.
I imagine *part* of the reason is that it unintentionally parodies an also extremely popular italian reality show called "L'Isola dei Famosi" ("The Island of the Famous") where a bunch of actual real life celebrities are sent to a carabbean island to live and complete challenges until all are voted out but one, who wins a big prize. Said show has been running for 20 plus years.
Non dimenticarti serie come Grande Fratello, che comunque anche se non ambientati su un'isola è pur sempre un reality show basato sul drama, che in italia va tanto. So che ne esistono altri simili all'isola dei famosi ma non ricordo per niente il nome. Uno aveva a che fare con le coppie mi pare.

Well to give him credit he did kinda like ripper in the first like 4 episodes of season 1 (heavy emphasis on kinda btw) which literally everyone agreed on that ripper in these episodes was just the worst.
