Eliminate Sound/Audio Issues with Roku Remote App [Feature] When Using Headphones

04/17/24: I've returned to this video to add a few additional notes.
The functionality of this app is HUGELY contingent on the performance of your wireless network. In other words, you need to have a fast, reliable internet connection and your router must be working well for this feature to work well. Today, I experienced issues like never before. When I did some investigative work, I discovered that the network performance was poor. My first step was to reboot the router, and that helped substantially, but ultimately, I still had issues. The reason? Too many users on the network! In other words, there wasn't enough bandwidth in my network to accommodate all the devices/users. So if you've followed all the steps in this video to no avail, your remedy might be to 'kick off' users/devices from your network to free up bandwidth.
I am not the software engineer who designed this app, or designed how it works with your Roku device, but I am fairly certain that the feature works as so:
Your Roku device uploads the audio data of the content you're watching to your router to then be sent over to your phone and thus the app. As you can imagine, if there are multiple users downloading and uploading content, meanwhile you and others are streaming content, that doesn't leave much bandwidth left over for the Roku remote app feature to work...
Also. I had absolutely no success using wireless headphones with this feature. The latency and lagging was completely UNMANEAGABLE. So make certain you're using wired headphones plugged directly into your phone/tablet's headphone port.
