HOW FAR CAN WE THROW WORLDS FARTHEST FLYING OBJECT?!?

  • Aerobie holds the record for the "longest throw of an object without any velocity-aiding feature" at 1,333 feet! Naturally we had to go give it a try and see how far it really goes and if we can out-throw our disc golf disc drives with it! I had to cut most of the talking unfortunately because of unbearable wind noises. It's been super windy here the last few days and it's hard shooting good content outdoors, as you may have noticed..! Hope you still enjoy some of these shots :)

      An Aerobie needs to be thrown accurately or you will lose it. The throw needs to be straight and level. The Aerobie should never go higher than eye level and it should fly in a straight line, not curving to one side nor the other. The technique these guys are using in this video is all wrong. It takes some work to develop the correct technique. You need to throw the Aerobie gently, you don't need to use a lot of strength to get long flights. Practice throwing the Aerobie flat and very gently for short flights. Aim for short flights so that you get used to throwing gently. Also every throw needs to stay at eye level, never higher. If your throw goes upward higher than that then the Aerobie will drop off to the left side and that's no good. The Aerobie should fly dead straight the entire flight until it hits the ground. i find it helpful to start with the Aerobie over my shoulder and throw it slightly towards the ground to get a low, level flight. By practicing with short throws you can avoid chasing, and losing, the Aerobie until you learn the proper technique and can get straight, level flights. Once you learn to throw, the Aerobie will fly along the intended flight path and you won't lose it and it won't get caught in trees or on roofs. Remember, EVERY SINGLE THROW should never go higher than eye level. If you can throw like that (not all that easy to learn), you will not lose it. The tendency people have is to try and get those touted world record throws by flinging it with all their might, as shown in the video. That's not how you want to throw the Aerobie, you need to throw it gently. Even when thrown gently, if at eye level and straight, the Aerobie will fly amazingly far. It just flies straight ahead at eye level as if gliding on ice, it does not lose altitude, it does not need height, it will just keep flying dead level at eye level, it's amazing and very fun. But forget about long distance at first and concentrate on short, level flights because that's how you learn to throw gently. Once you get good VERY GRADUALLY start throwing longer flights, gradually because #1 you need to learn to resist the temptation to fling the Aerobie with all your might, which these video guys have not yet learnt, and #2 you need to convince yourself that a gentle, eye level throw is all that is needed to get long flights. If playing catch with someone, EVERY SINGLE THROW needs to go straight and level right at the catcher's eyes and he needs to be able to catch it because it came right to him. If you can"t both throw that well you're going to be chasing the Aerobie for miles all day. Start off ten feet apart, just barely tossing the Aerobie to each other, making good throws every time. Once you get good increase to twenty feet and then start over, learning to throw gently, low, level, and straight. When playing Aerobie no one should ever be chasing the Aerobie. If you have to chase it it's because someone hasn"t yet leanrt to throw. Every single throw should be eye level, never higher, so it should never go over anyone's head. If you make the throw just a little high, and the catcher misses it by an inch (which would be three feet over eye level, a horrible throw), you might as well keep a golf cart handy because you're in for a loooong hike to chase it down. Look at the guys in this video to see how NOT to do it, flinging it with all their might. the Aerobie flying way up in the air, the Aerobie not flying straight but instead dropping off to the left, and their throwing arm whipping around in an exaggerated follow through that is flinging the Aerobie skyward.

    I have bought and thrown at least 20 of those frisbees, I found that most of them won't throw straight regardless of how much you bend them but 1 out of 5 will throw perfect and that perfect throw will glide 1000 feet if thrown right. Of course you have to throw the frisbee right, but there is no trick unless you have the right one.

But yeah, tuning them is an art and very satisfying when you get right. The video looked like ya'll were treating them like golf discs - compensating for inferior aerodynamics by anyhyzer. The aerobie compensation is in the tune. It's fussy for sure. I own about 4 and my biggest complaint are varying degrees of rubber hardness. Take the one that is most straight out of the box and focus on it and it along, even though that means lots of walking!

      @@caseywhite4 Straight from the Aerobie Instructions card for the Sprint Flying Ring:
      "TUNING YOUR DISC FOR OPTIMUM FLIGHT
      Greatest accuracy and distance are achieved when a disc is launched with about ten degrees of downward lean (Hyzer angle), then rolls about five degrees beyond level but comes back at the end. The goal is just enough rollover to extend the glide but not too much, which would make the flight end up on its side.
      To change the tune to match your personal throwing speed and style, hold the rim of the disc at its narrowest part (grip area) and bend it as shown here (downward to increase rollover, or upward to decrease rollover). Then rotate the disc about forty-five degrees and repeat. Continue around the disc until you are back where you started. The disc will creep back slightly in the first few minutes after bending and then hold its tune very well thereafter.
      You can tune discs for different conditions. For example, since all discs roll over more upwind, tune one disc for less rollover and use it for upwind throws."

    @brianrobbins8384 Před 4 lety

    Two big keys to throwing the Aerobie. You have already hit on fine tuning the ring. It takes quite a bit of fine tuning to fly true. The second key is spin rate. The spinning Aerobie will create it's own lift (like an airplane wing). Back in the early 1990's a friend of mine threw an Aerobie at least 300 yards.

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown Před 2 lety

      Spin rate is a non-issue and over thinking it. Any backhand throw will get a good spin rate. The real keys are resisting the tendency to throw forcefully and instead throwing gently, and learning to throw never higher than eye level. Tuning is important but you need to be able to make good, level throws before you can accurately judge what tuning is needed. Hopefully your tune is close enough to begin with to allow you to get good, then you can learn to tune later. If you get a badly tuned Aerobie you might need a good thrower to help tune it.

    Think if the modern disc golf discs both the lid style and the Eagle/Aero and Aviar had not been invented somebody might have said instead of Wham-O Frisbee catch discs in various molds lets use flying rings and the putt has to get over a metal 2 inch pole to hole out, with putters being more catch/putter like with a missing center. Discs would have a minimum missing center and max along with a max and minim ring width and width of the ring itself and a uniform ring width. We might be useing Aerobie type rings to play Ring Golf instead of Disc Golf Discs. Courses then would be the size of golf courses due to how far these rings fly just for the average thrower.

    Love the Aerobie, best invention ever! For a couple years a friend and I used to go to a huge soccer field 4-5 times a week during the nicer months and let that thing rip between us (about 300+ feet?) and do out best to chase that thing down for the catch. Then he got a girl friend. :-( Good times while it lasted.
    No substitute for a brand new one for a long, straight flight. They do not age well, but at about $10 a disk, who cares?

      Mine are decades old and still fly fine, even with some abuse and damage.

    Can you please do a vlog where you do something crazy with super overstable discs like stegos, MOABs, vipers and whippets. Seems like the FD3 is probably the most overstable discmania...? Can you get one to flip?

    470ish is my PR for FHBH using a Wraith but an Aerobie I can crush 750ft with a good rip.

    hi! Is there a reason (a rule or something) why you don't throw with the aerobie at dusk golf tournaments?

    I've always wondered what the flight numbers would be for an Aerobie (or for an Ultrastar for that matter). Any guesses?
