I brought the 5R when it came out and have been using it since it great for my purpose which is something compact for traveling. You can also add ECM-SST1 compact stereo microphone, an accessory for video recording on the NEX-5 camera, it connects to the Smart Accessory Terminal and it has a wind screen to help eliminate wind noise.

The ILS5000 has far better image quality 24pm, even though it doesn't have a viewfinder. You should try it

Those internal microphones sound fairly good to me, better than others I've heard before.
I agree! I think he’s just giving us a comparison to a high end microphone. I think it’s useable straight from the camera.
Even though I own some of the latest Sony full frame cameras I still love the Nex-5r. I carry it with my everywhere with a little 25mm f1.2 manual prime lens. Best size/value of any camera imo. I also find the image quality quite pleasing.
Which 25mm f1.2 are you using?

@@delanobanano6110 yeah, I think it's great for beginners. Outside in bright daylight is definitely it's biggest weakness. But rarely are the best photos taken in that situation anyway.

Did you mention the touch screen...? It's unique feature in the NEX range, I think? Rack focusing. And object tracking focus too. Amazing little camera.

I was always looking for a good, high quality but relative inexpensive setup and you showed me that you not have to spend nearly 1 thousand dollars or even more!
The Sony 5T was my introduction to mirrorless several years ago. Although I now have the Sony A6000 I still use the NEX5T on occasion. It fits nicely in a pocket when hiking.

I like using my NEX5 for crazy adapted lenses to goof around with . Even with an adapter it still has a small profile.

Which did you decide on? Is the 5R the only NEX with the forward facing flip screen ?
The a7 III doesn't have a flippy screen, but it does have an EVF. It took Sony a while to figure out how to implement them both in the same camera, and they still managed to screw it up in the a6100, a6400, and a6600. The only Sony Alpha camera with a proper flippy screen is the a7S III.

You can attach a proprietary Sony microphone to the accessory port. But then that gets in the way of the flip screen.

Yeah! Can use Adobe Podcast to make the audio sound better when editing the videos. Adobe Podcast is amazing at making crappy audio sound like podcast audio.
I got an Sony NEX-5R for long time ago! Like since back on 2012! Back then they was a big deal! We don't use it anymore. I have two GoPro's but I would give it a shot!
nex-5r is the best budget vlog camera obviously, the 180 flip touch screen can beat all sony cameras under a6400😂

@@FoxTailWhipz I just chcecked that nex 5r from local market and there is a little issue with LCD. It looks like peeling of or some little spots on edges. I read that this is typical problem and I don't know what to do now. It looks much better than other cameras with that issue, which I found on the internet, but still, not ideal...
Its 150$ for camera+16-50mm+memory card+2xbattery+camera bag+original box.
@@filll7460 As long as the screen is still fully functional and you can see it fine, that is a great deal especially since you could sell the 16-50 lens for around $80-100 eventually to help fund a better lens. And you would most likely want 2 batteries as well with any camera you buy. I'd say if your okay with how the screen is, and if it won't affect your workflow then go for it.

I love this line of cameras. I dropped my 5t and broke the battery bay. I’ll probably buy a 5r. I just put a windjammer on the microphone holes and I’m good on the audio. It’ll cost me about $135, but I can do it. I’ve owned the Nex f3 too and that one was mice as well.

I feel I have to advise you ,having owned two NEX 5R's that the ILs 5000 version has an infinity better image quality even if it doesn't have a viewfinder.... Which you can have on 5R but it's very expensive..

So is it a 30 min video at a time? Or there is only 30 mins of video available until you have remove the old video
Another thing is nautical made an underwater housing that takes there adaptor that uses Nikonos underwater lenses. 1 nautical 15 mm lens costs $1500 so that's why Nikonos lenses are a bargain. Those lenses are the best for underwater.

I haven't used the 5T yet but from what I understand it's very similar to the 5R. I know Sony makes a shotgun mic that plugs into the port on top of the camera 😁

Unfortunately you probably have a PAL/European version instead of a NTSC/North American version.

The nex 6 has a viewfinder so it will be more versatile for photography, if you don't need a viewfinder though the nex 5r will be cheaper on the used market!

FoxTailWhipz there is a viewfinder add on accessory for the 5R that can be mount on the accessory port on the top but the only downside is that you use the flash and the view finder at the same time.
When i changed my lens into ultra wide, i don't know why it isn't smooth when taking video. Can you give me best setting for vlogging?
Does the lens have stabilization? The stock 16-50 one does. The 16mm pancake doesn't if I remember correctly.
Wow, this is the camera that I use for my videos! I wonder why it was never popular as a vlogging camera when it came out? people used one of the canon elph cameras for vlogging which was nowhere near as good as the Sony NEX-5R. The people who had this camera back then had the best quality vlogs. This camera is so old that it existed when there was no such thing as a Canon g7x

because the canon ELPHs and other *compact* cameras are very portable, you can just shove them in your pocket when you need to put them away

How are the pictures it takes?
It takes great pictures! I would recommend investing in some cheap vintage lenses rather than the kit lens though. They really help make the photos pop.

What’s the difference between the R and N? Both are 16 mp
5r has hybrid AF, 5n only has contrast af. 5r is much faster in af. I have both.
It isn't that expensive to get a hotshoe adapter for the camera.
Cold-shoe, but yeah, Amazon all day.
There are videos of people using some sony external mic with it tho
Sony makes a shotgun mic that plugs into the accessory port on top of the camera. That will work well for most situations but it doesn't add a 3.5mm input which is what most microphones use.
FoxTailWhipz oh yea. Btw ive seen some dude mod one of these mics and adding a 3.5 Jack so if youre persistent, its doable. Also Sonys mic doesnt seem that bad tbh.
