As an American, I'm so flattered, fascinated, and intrigued by Jay's faux American accent he specifically used when he sang during the late 90s/"Travelling Without Moving"-era. Sometimes it sounds like he's from the deep south, others it sounds like he's from California. I used to wonder why Brits would say my best impression of the way they generally talk was "rubbish", only to now years later realize how many little nuances there are just with the "standard" American way of speaking and how obvious it is to hear when someone is mimicking it versus someone who is native to the US. I'm not making fun of or criticizing Jay in any way here, I find it quite adorable and endearing, and it just shows how much he takes inspiration and influence from the various soul, funk, and R&B singers from the United States that he admires so much. A very touching and respectful homage to the musicians that paved the way for him, Jamiroquai as a band, and the entire acid jazz movement of the 1990s. 💕🙏
