    Thanks for the demo! I got a few motors lying about, like to use them, esp: in free over unity energy designs. Busy building a 12v dc to 240 ac 50 Hz Inverter at the moment. This may be useful in designing a power generator.

    So far at 2:50 I see a possibly 115 VDC motor (since it is actually a 230VAC motor) if each of the coil polarities is correct in the parallel connections. The RPM and torque will be reduced related to the voltage applied under 115V. If a fan is put on the shaft to blow over the motor, then the voltage can be increased to get more RPM and torque than originally designed. If doing overdrive condition, I would cable tie a 120c thermal fuse on the windings opposite of the fan and to the inside as far as possible.

    To find out the field current that is drawn by the field coils measure their resistance with both coils connected in parallel. Use Ohm's Law (Voltage = Resistance x Current) to calculate the current.
    By connecting a wirewound resistance in series with the coils you can easily limit the current to whatever value you may wish. Here are some simple calculations that you may use.
    Let C = field coils resistance with coils in parallel
    Let I = current required for field coils
    Let V = supply voltage
    Ler R = required wirewound resistance
    Using Ohm's Law:
    V = I*(C + R)
    V = I*C + I*R
    => I*R = V - I*C
    => R = (V - I*C)/I
    Example:
    With field coils resistance of 20 Ohms, field current of 500mA, supply voltage of 24V
    R = (24 - 0.5*20)/0.5
    R = 28 Ohms
    Power Dissipation in Coils:
    P = I*I*r
    P = 0.5*0.5*20
    P = 5 Watts
    Power Dissipation in wirewound resistance:
    P = I*I*r
    P = 0.5*0.5*28
    P= 7 Watts

    This is normal, this motor is a universal motor which runs with both ac and dc voltage.

      When you run field/stator windings in parallel, you just get more torque out of it, but a universal motor will happily run on both AC and DC

      Universal motor is always a the armature and field connected in series. If it is parallel, the motor will NOT run on AC. It can run on DC only.

    Verywell done. But that 32 would be dc not ac, coz your multimeter was on the dc side not ac side. But thatz a very small and common mistake.

    Hello, thanks for putting this video up. Pls i have a motor that i took out of my wife's blender. It looks very much like this one, but the wiring is quite different. On the body is written 7030 230V 50Hz. I want to use it to build a go-kart for my 6yr old son. Can i drive it with a 12-24V DC battery?     how come cordless impact drill machines with 12v LI-ion batteries operate then at full power, since both use universal motors even the mixer should have operated in full power at 12volts with larger amps sucked from battery -
    btw any cordless drill can be directly converted to 120/220v AC withput any wiring changes on motor side!!!
    whats your take. are we missing something

      سلام داداش داستان اینجوریه که شما دوتا سیم پیچ برای استاتور دارید (بالشتک) که بصورت نرمال این دو سیم پیچ با هم سری شده اند .از محل اتصال
      دوسیم پیچ بالشتک بهم سیمها رو قطع کنید بنابراین چهار سر سیم دارید که دوتاش کوتاه تر هست سر بلند هر کدام از کلاف ها رو به سر کوتاه کلاف دیگه وصل کنید وبرای ذغال ها هم دوسر دارید که اونها رو هم هر کدام به محل اتصال این سیم هایی که بهم وصل کردید وصل کنید و جمعا شما دوتا اتصال دارید حالا برق دی سی رو هم به محل این دواتصال وصل کنید تمام..موفقباشید.

    As you're putting 12v across the rotor and it's wound for 230v minus the field voltage drop at maybe 2A, then how can you get enough current thorough the rotor to make any meaningful torque? I've done this type of parallel setup before with a large washing machine motor and it only works effectively if you increase the rotor voltage into the 100+ volt range. Correct me if I'm wrong; I put the motor on the shelf awaiting a purpose.

      a universal motor has armature conneted in series with the field.More than half the voltage drop occurs on the field pole windings.Lets say that usually , the voltage drop across the armature terminal is 100V and the remaining 130V is across the fields.Then a 100V armature easily starts at around 3v to 5v and the torque value keeps on rising as the voltage rises.
      So the answer to ur question is that a good value of torque is at 100V to 150V and keeps on decreasing with the decrease in applied voltage.Higher field voltage is equally responsible for a higher value of torque.

      Mr Electron That sounds about right but I disagree with the proportion of voltage drop across the field; I think it is much lower. Still, you have confirmed to me that you're not getting anything like the potential out of the rotor at such low voltage. A better result is possible with American 110v motors, as these will be wound for more amps.

      Voltage drop can be easily confirmed by checking the resistance value of fields together and then the armature.Higher resistance means higher voltage drop.I haven't done the check but i think the resistance of field should be higher and so should the voltage considering the number of turns.
      A better result is possible with American 110v motors----> True

      If you look at it from the to top, counter clockwise, could it be, the first wire, from the first coil, should be connected to the first wire of the second coil... (Question mark), my keyboard doesn't have a question mark, Lol!) I don't know where the fuck, this laptop, was made. Lol!

    My motor does not have 6 wires, it is a hedge trimmer motor, it has 2 black wired from brushes and 1 brown and 1 orange from the field windings there is also a 1 into 2 blue wire with on side wrapped around a small metal ring? How do I wire this for 12v dc please? thankyou

    Please make a video on winding modification for more speed and torque at 12v.
    The dc 775 motor is having more torque and speed than your modified series motor. So it is of no use.

    Now i will tell you something, all the coils in this type of universal motor are connected in series.
    Now 220 volt is distributed among the 3 coils , 2 field and 1armature or rotor coils.
    Now the stator coil or field coil has got different windings. So now calculate the voltage distribution among the 3 coils and you will get full potential from the motor. Best of luck. Hope to see this vedio next in your channel
