He is a National Treasure in and of himself, I hope you were on your best behavior and made a life long friend, he certainly would have some amazing stories to tell. Thank you for taking us on a history tour Cash!!
they clearly thoroughly enjoyed eachother's company, an utterly charming episode.
He's funny, I liked his wise cracks.
I think this is Cash' best episode, ever! @@deborahcurtis1385
It's eerie how much they look alike. Roy looks like Cash in 40 years and the poster at the 13:00 mark looks like Cash today.
THANKS ! SO MUCH FOR LETTING ME KNOW ! BE CAREFUL 🙏 ALSO I BELIEVE ALL THOESE APARTMENTS UP THERE WILL BE TRANSFORMED FOR THE HOMELESS . CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT !!! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY ! THAT'S WHY ALL THIS IS HAPPENING . I PULLED UP INFORMATION ON TINY HOMES BEING PLACED IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE US FOR THE HOMELESS . THE HUMANITARIAN PROJECT IS TAKING OFF AS WE SPEAK . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!! HAVE A BLESSED DAY ! 😁
That thing you pull from beneath the bed was a bed warmer. When filled with hot coals you would put it between the sheets on the bed and it would warm them up.
That is exactly what I thought also.
Dang! You beat me to it by an hour...never mind! My knowledge belongs back in my memory vault as redundant after all! lol
Yes, you just swished it back & forth a few times to take the chill off the sheets before getting jnto bed. (It wasn't left in the bed)
Lol, I believe Cash was just being facetious when he said he thought it was for laying coals under the bed, "although I could be wrong."
I had to read through the comments to find about the bed sheet warmer. I knew it was that from an old episode of BEWITCHED!! 😂😂 ( yes I am dating myself, it was before Nick at Nite )
His energy is amazing to me... I would love to have conversations with him... He is so witty ❤❤❤
100%
@CashJordan you need to check out Queens County Farm Museum. It's a wonderful place. Bring Violet. I think she'd enjoy it & all sorts of kid friendly activities. Reach out to them. They may allow you to do a tour of the place (for a fee of course) that I think the viewers might enjoy
@@CashJordan Thank you, wonderful post.
I immensely enjoyed this one! Would love this as a series! So much to learn from the older generation…and now we can document it! Again great job!
Cash can go back to see this great ol' guy the first Monday of every month. @@simmadownow
Cash did a great job interacting with this lovely man.
I remember when he was on KDKA. The Pittsburgh Press did an article of him post-divorce He had a mattress on the floor and wall to wall books around all of the rooms of his apartment. He was a star in Pittsburgh radio. He left KDKA and I never knew what happened to him. Thanks Cash, for letting us know the rest of the story. (Paul Harvey reference there.)
I remember him on KDKA radio. He was interesting then too. I never knew why he left the radio. I didn’t know if he quit or go let go.
I remember listening to him on KDKA, too. How wonderful to see him now!
Ira Glass just did an episode about Paul Harvey on This American Life! So fascinating!
Ditto here. I listened to him decades before KDKA before syndication took over.
He said he did it for 30 years. Maybe he just retired and moved onto this!
What a charming and learned gentleman. Thanks Roy for allowing us into your home. Cash, you channel has evolved into a whole different experience than just property. Thanks.
I was born and raised in Jamaica Queens and was a patient at Mary Immaculate Hospital across the street from the park. I didn't even know that there was a livable apartment in the Manor let alone that someone was living there. This was a joy to watch. Great memories. By the way Cash please do a tour of Mary Immaculate Hospital which is now luxury apartments. 😊 I keep coming back to edit....Roy is funny!!! Absolutely loved this video....😊
I'd love to spend time looking through his library.
Roy has brighter eyes and a sharper mind than most people I've come across 👍I hope he lives a long and healthy life
JDPewPewPew - I hope so too. Fox
Amen!!!!!
This made me so happy for this authentic, intelligent, charismatic gentleman. But, I started to get envious at the end. He not only gets to live in a museum. He has a thriving pothos and 4,000 books! ❤ He is still handsome.
Look, I am throwing this out there-you two kids have chemistry. I enjoyed the tour, and I enjoyed the two of you vibing even more. Cash and Roy, eight minutes and fifteen seconds once a week discussing-whatever the hell you like. This was gold. Strong work, boys. 👍 👍
Danny - Thanks - a lot! Fox
Mr.Boy here - Thanks Danny - a lot!
Danny - Forget the second message, because I had already thanked you. Or, forget the first message because, as usual for 84 years, I have no idea of what I'm doing. Roy The Fox
@@RoyFox-hs6ld I’m in the same boat. 👍
Roy Fox, what a guy!
He still has a fabulous radio voice ❤️ Roy is seriously the coolest. Absolutely loved this tour.
great gig for the man, he is one of the few seniors who isn't lonely! Bedwarmers aren't placed under the bed, they're passed around between the sheets with that long handle. Like a giant iron, but for the purpose of taking the chill out before getting in. Only someone with servants would bother with this extra bit of luxury, mind you, because it's not that hard to warm up your own bed with your body rather than fussing with coals and having to wash your hand and empty the bedwarmer before you can get into it.
WOWEE! What a COOL video! Thanks, Cash! Roy is definitely a voracious reader! I didn't notice a television in the place at all. What an energetic character he is too! Oh! That was definitely a bed warmer you had in your hands, Cash. I don't think that you use it under the bed but instead it is filled with hot coals to warm the sheets and other bedding.
You need to take a subway ride out here to see it. You'll drool over all the woodwork & original features. Roy is a character. He's done other interviews & really a great ambassador for b the place. & no he didn't watch TV. I found another gem for you in Sugar Hill you need to check out
Yes the maid would come by and do that, and the key was to do it rapidly, timing was of the essence! (trying to value-add here, everybody seems to know the same thing as me...)
I'm happy to be amazed by people still. Gives me some hope. ❤
I've seen movies set in New York with apartments that look like his. I didn't think they actually existed. Thanks for showing us this Cash!!
My favorite video of yours so far. Could you include more like this, Please, Cash 😊
This is now on my google maps list of places to visit. The book collection is magical. As is the property history. He’s a wonderful treasure trove to chat with ❤
Cash made it seem like it's off the beaten path but it's really not. The subway leaves you 3 blocks away
@@MamaCarola1does this have something to do with me putting it on my map so I remember to visit?
@askmisspatience yes it does. Many times Cash has spoken in half truths.
Askingmisspatience - I am a wonderful treasure trove - and I don't even know what that means. Fox
@@RoyFox-hs6ldtreasure trove of wonderful facts that are very interesting ❤
King Manor is a gem that not enough people know about. Back in 1987 it went through a major renovation. It was looking run-down & you didn't want to walk through the park. They've done a wonderful job but it needs another renovation. Hasn't been pained (exterior) in years & even ske problems with the interior. You used to be able to rent it for weddings, etc but not now so any income from that is lost. Roy is amazing. So much knowledge from life experience & all those books he's read.
Looks run down compared to anything historical in Europe
@@KristianBjotveOur tax money goes to Europe.
I bet that dishwasher works amazing
MamaCarola - We have a brand new paint job, thanks to Kelsey our CEO the Interior has never been better and we have had no lost income. The Amazing Fox
And 2 years later Roy moved in. Wild!
The brass item you mentioned is a sheet warmer, it was used to warm the bed before going to bed. The hinged lid is punctured by a decorative pattern of holes that allow oxygen to feed the coals and keep them hot. Once the bed warmer was filled, it was inserted between the bed sheets and moved about to warm and dry the bed for a cozy sleep
Thank you! I had to scroll to find your answer. Talk about a fire hazard.
@@lordfordificationnot a fire hazard. At a cabin without central heating this was used on my bed as a kid. You opened up the iron stove, shoveled in some hot coals, flipped down the lid, and rubbed it between the sheets. My grandmother also would rub it over my flannel nightgown. It was pure joy to slide over your head a toasty gown and then tuck into the very hot bed. You learned very quickly to visit the outhouse before this routine as you didn’t want to to leave this cocoon until you smelt browning potatoes, and eggs cooking in the morning. (Which meant the main room was warmer than the bedroom because it was cooked on the wood stove)
Ps the piece of furniture he mentions as being a desk is actually a secretary. The flip down panel created a writing surface and hid wonderful drawers to store ink, paper and nib pens - and often secret compartments for valuables like stamps and cash.
@@katherinegaston5229Wow!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience!!
Now THAT is what I call a library! A bit higgledy-piggledy, with dog-ears and markers aplenty but it's kinda what the curious did before we had Google. And what a lovely man Roy is - a proper custodian bursting with information and knowledge - ah, they don't make 'em lke him any more. A lovely and delightful episode, Cash. Thanks.
A $0 dollar appartment inside a museum is amazing!
You'd expect it to cost a lot!
Im literally so jealous
I worked in an historic home in Manhattan, and there was a gentlemen who had the same living arrangement as this man does. It really was great since you'd come in the morning to open the museum, knowing there was someone there already on the grounds keeping the place safe.
I think I’ve been there. Is that the one that’s the last free standing house in Manhattan?
yes, up in Inwood.
@@rainbowgirlism
It’s a beautiful place and Roy is a delight! As a historian myself I can’t think of a more wonderful job.
I like Roy. He is feisty. And the books, oh my goodness, so jealous. Have moved around so much in my life I have given books to libraries and folks I have known around the world (when I am moving). Still have loads in storage for now and I miss them.
It’s fantastic that this man was able to stay in a museum. The stories that he learned and now live in. Fantastic
That is a bed warmer, but doesn't go under the bed. Coals were put inside and the bedding warmed in the winter. What an interesting video. Wonderful old guy......love!❤❤❤
What an absolute character. Cash you have done it again. How enriching it must be to meet such an interesting man.
You are truly giving us new views of NYC! Who knew people could live in historic homes!
really? you didn't know people lived in historic homes? in general or in nyc?
Imagine sitting down with Roy for a day and just listening to his stories.
No kidding! I guarantee you would not be bored.
Roy needs to write his autobiography! I can just imagine all the wonderful stories he has to tell!
I lived in NYC for over 20 years and never knew this place existed. I'm so sorry I never got to meet Roy and see this amazing place. Thanks for sharing it with us.
soon as you get off any train at Jamaica Center....up the block and literally across the street.

Loving the direction your channel is taking Cash. The short documentaries vs pure house viewings is so much more interesting!
I think this is the best thing you have ever posted. Roy, you are terrific!
Amazing Video and great history Cash! Thanks for sharing !!!
Thanks for the info. I was born & raised in NY in Queens and never knew someone lived in Kings Manor. I thought caretakers came to take care of the property. Not lived there. 😊 thank you!
Easily one of the best videos on the channel. Roy is a legend, his respect for learning and history is commendable. I’m glad he’s happy
❤❤❤ Cash this was an absolute delight. I adore history and you not only keep us informed of current events, but you are giving us historical tours as well. YOU!, are a great educator as is your guest Roy. Thank you both.
What a wonderful man with an incredible situation in a fabulous house ❤
This has got to be one of the coolest videos I've seen on this channel! Fascinating! Man, Roy is so cool.
Ha, I noticed he had a cat, before it was even shown in the vid, cuz I have the same litter box.
Oh, and Go Cubs Go!
...Dang, 1750's...I cant believe all of the history and things this place has seen if these walls could talk. Man, I want to buy an old Spanish country house with a kitchen like that, too!
Somebody tell Pixar to make a movie about him
What a fascinating old man! I would love to talk with him and browse his library! And listen to all his stories! Great video, Cash! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦
My grandmother had one of those brass things with the long arm (except hers was copper and French provincial) and it was for putting hot charcoals from the fire inside it to then warm the the bed sheets before you got into bed, that's why the long arm so you warm right to the end where your feet will go...very important! The wooden arm had long broken off on hers, but I never forgot the explanation, and have never told anyone before because I try to give information on a need to know basis and so far after 50 years no need...but she did have hers on display in her kitchen along with other copper pieces, it was beautifully etched and had little bits sliced out on the top...it had loads of character.
Born and raised in Brooklyn. Been in NC since 9/11/2001. I really enjoy your videos, they remind me of why I left! (Too expensive!)
If you can do more videos on the history of NYC like this…. Cool. I know the city has its problems but this is the NY I love!
Keep up the good work bro!
Loved this ! Whatca great guy . He was fun and so knowledgeable . I'm a volunteer tour guide in an historic house in England, and we have a house manager who lives in the property, and it helps with security. I didn't know you had the same thing in the US. It makes a lot of sense.
I've lived in the US for 74 years and did not know we have live in house managers until Cash opened my mind.
Soooooo basically Roy should be a Katrillionaire having saved rent from 1989
That's how he was able to afford ALL those books. 🤓
Should be, but caretakers usually exchange work for housing. So I doubt he’s been paid on top of free housing. But who knows. :)
I love this man Roy! His entire life has been as unconventional as he is. I bet he has that incredible mind, spirit and wit because he has an insatiable curiosity to learn new facts. I bet he's never had a bored day in his life! I would love to be friends with Roy and his cat. What a beautiful man he is! Thank you for introducing us to him, Cash 🙂
looks like he's led a very lonely and solitary life, hence all the books.
Cash- What a fantastic episode. I love history! Thank you Roy! Preserving our nation’s history is truly important.
The item under the bed was used for hot coals or to put a brick inside that was very hot. This was how they tried to stay warm. Remember there was a small ice age during and before the American revolution. They had mattresses made from straw in the early days so they had to make sure they didn’t catch on fire in order to keep themselves warm. They also had their nightgowns and other sleeping clothes hung near the fire so they could get into bed in warm clothes. They slept with a covering for their heads too. Along with socks and many wool blankets they were at risk constantly for fires starting. We had very brave ancestors that never gave up improving their lives so our country would have a better future. Thank you for such great content.
Keep going!☮️👏👏👏👏
As a total history nerd I especially enjoyed this episode. Roy has my heart 💖💖💖
What a National Treasure he is! His knowledge is so vast! Loved this tour of historic King Manor and Roy! ❤❤❤❤
Wow! I love old historic houses and this one is a gem! Roy Fox is very interesting and clearly very well read. He is one lucky man, indeed, to live in such a home for nothing. Good for him! Loved this video.
Wow that’s incredible that he’s living there all these years God bless him and the house is still up after all these years.❤
What a find, Cash, both the manor and Mr. Fox!!
What a privilege to experience you meeting this fascinating man ! Thank you so much for posting this awesome video. 🤩
This was absolutely 100% sacred, Cash. Old people contain more knowledge then the internet, and they have SEEN and EXPERIENCED everything you've read in a history book. As a practising nurse in LTC setting, my absolute favorite thing to do was listen to their stories. As a nurse, you're not supposed to do that, but in my practise I did what I wanted, not what they told me to do. So I listened. My favorite stories came out of a WW2 and korean war combat nurse, who spoke softly and slowly.. but clearly.. and she didn't forget anything. I put in hours, listening to her live memory bring to life.. those anxiety ridden moments in historical events. So, I love and appreciate my elders. Good one, Cash. xo
I so agree with you ❤️
My dad was in memory care before passing last year & I always appreciated the staff that took the time to listen to their stories... over & over again😁. When they were short staffed, if my dad was napping, I would try to help them out by just sitting & listening to the residents. Wish I had known them before their minds slipped. Some were real characters even then!
I feel like someone needs to tell you practice does not contain the letter s.
Old people are overrated. Most of them lived normal lives like the rest of us.
"Old people contain more knowledge then the internet" Nope. A single human brain can contain about 2.5 petabytes. The internet is 67,108,864 petabytes.
Great episode! What an awesome guy Roy is and a treasure-trove of information. Epic book collection!
Love it when he said "no, it's the library" in his bedroom. Accidentally hit the thumbs down and removed it. Got me glasses on now :)
That man is a gem. I love him. So many books! This is your best one yet. He has such a great memory probably from so much reading.

Creating wealth and financial freedom isn't as tough as many people believe.
Building wealth and remaining financially stable indefinitely is a lot easier with the appropriate information. Participating in financial programs and products is the only true approach to make a high income and remain affluent indefinitely...
It is always good to have a financial plan. I work with a professional planner and fixed-income strategist in NY. The fixed income portion of your portfolio won't simply serve as a buffer to the volatility of the equity portion of your portfolio, but will provide legitimate income.
I couldn't agree more. Taking charge of your life and putting in the hard work is the path to success. Having a portfolio manager like Mr. Samuel Peter Descovich is a game-changer. Their expertise and guidance can truly transform your financial journey. Making $35,000 in profits each month and saving 70% of that is quite impressive! They save you time and provide valuable insights that lead to impressive profits. Keep up the amazing work, and enjoy the fruits of your labor..
Found his website easily. It was like the first thing that came up when I searched his name. I'll surely touch basis with him to see what the best step is for me to take right now. THANK YOU!!!
It’s unfortunate most people don’t have such information, I don’t really blame people who panic cos lack of information can be a big hurdle. I’ve been making more than $65k passively investing with Samuel Peter Descovich, and I don’t have to do much work. It doesn’t matter if the market is crashing, I will always make good profit returns.
I have turned over more than half
MILLION working with SAMUEL PETER DESCOVICH on a wide array of options and finally sticking to a few that have been favorable in the past 2 years.
Love hearing about storied parts of NYC from old timers like Roy. Awesome episode! 💯💯💯
