I unfortunately didn't really know about this series until Seven Sirens came out, so I missed out on this release. I just wanted to say that I totally agree with your point about the fans of a series getting in early. I personally am a huge fan of the Yo-Kai watch games on 3ds and I bought them for MSRP. Now a lot of them are work well over $200, so in that way it pays to be a fan. It does really suck for new fans of a franchise wanting to grab these games later down the line though.
I keep scooping up any releases they port over to switch. Just in case they end up being lost to high price tags later.
Good video, I actually have the original from a trade with a friend in middle school. I was aware of the series' releases but never got back into it. I bought the second and third yesterday and wanted to delve into the game order and history of the releases. This video was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Have a nice day and thanks for all the info

I remember I bought this game back in late 2018, I think it was below $40 back then, I was surprised to see this price honestly
Very cool video. I liked how your information was presented. I have the game sealed and the reason I have it is because I enjoyed half-genie hero on Switch. I saw Pirates Curse at Portland Retro gaming Expo at the LRG booth and was excited to play more Shantae. Bought it and it ended up in my drawer because you know… too many games.
Anyways, yesterday I was at a retro store and saw the game on the shelf and couldn’t believe the price, so I went home to confirm that I had that copy, which I did… so here I am watching your video trying to understand how I ended up with a $500 (CAD) game. 😂 Needless to say, I ended up just buying the digital game today because maybe I should keep it sealed.

I ended up paying 800 dollars CND for a physical copy and sometimes I question what I just did and whether it was worth it. That being said am a huge hardcore Shantae fan and this is supposed to be the best game in the series so had to check it out :). Still the way this game is scalped is crazy. Like there is no way to get Shantae and the Pirates Curse for less then 600. Its weird cause like all the other Shantae games in the series dont get scalped on ebay this high. Just this one.
I have noticed this aswell, I believe the Number of copies produced for the other 4 games in the series was much much higher than the number of copies printed for shantae 3. I know for example shantae 4 is still available from xseed directly for just 30 dollars
Are the Shantae Series (4 physical copies on PS5) worth getting right now, will their value go up or should I wait?
The answer to that question depends on what your goals are as a collector. While I don't collect for ps5 I believe the shantae games released for that console after this video had come out which is to say that by the time they launched on PS5 a lot of people likely paid attention and purchased that version based on the crazy price increase of the switch version. To date only the switch version of shantae and the pirates curse specifically has seen any meningful increase in price.
Again, this is unresearched speculation but it would not surprise me if the shantae collection is one of the highest selling ps5 launches from limited run so far. As far as price goes then I might expect the ps5 shantae collection to stagnate in price for a good long while so from that perspective there is not much urgency to collect it, though to be fair I can't really say which if any games for the ps5 warrant being urgently collected at this time. This is my perspective as an outsider to that ecosystem
Oof, guess I'll stick with my 3DS copy. There's no way in hell I'm getting a physical Switch copy at this point, unless it gets a reprint.

Makes no sense the game is that high in $$$. I see no one buying this game and playing it - No one I know personally plays this game.
It nuts. Pirate's curse is the best game in the Shantae series, but it's not worth the prices you see on eBay.
I was lucky enough to get a 3DS copy for $80 a few years back, but I know a lot of people weren't as lucky as me.
I got it for $10 on the 3DS 😂
