  • Hopefully a useful video for some SRAM shifter owners/users.

    The spring portion was pure gold. Great focus, real clear. Saved me a lot of time trying to figure it out myself. LOL but after rebuild and greasing up it still doesn't bounce back after shifts correctly. LOL oh well new shifters it is

      Glad some of it was helpful. I think the X9 stuff even though quite old now still commands a decent price on the used market.

      @@Chambers36TheEnter I think my springs got weak over time? bounces back with familiar nice audible click on upshift but once i run a cable and attach to derailleur it struggles to bounce back LOL

    great video.... both my thumb shifters are running freely and not doing anything . Have you ever had a similar issue, or could give me any advise as to what the issue could be. Thanks

      Hi
      I've have had them moving freely without engaging, it was the ratchet system inside that was not lined up but this was only when I was rebuilding them. 12:46 covers the ratchet system but yours could be very different if it just happened suddenly.

    Really helpful thanks, my 9 speed was opposite way to yours so assumed yours was 2/3 speed? It’s finally back together but only seems to click for 7 to 8? It’s not on the bike yet so will have to see?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter  Před 3 lety

      Yes this was a 3 speed shifter.
      It could be that your ratchet system is starting on gear 2 out of 9, so you're only getting 7 clicks.
      Once it's in the right location to begin with it should be able to cycle the clicks as it's only duplicating the same movement over and over until it's physically stopped by the metal plate.

      Cheers, so no need to take apart again then, hopefully?

    I successfully put it back following your steps, but find that the shifting lever would lock up if I tighten the center screws, and I'm guessing it's not normal
    I followed your instructions on the two spacers(nylon & metal ones), and even tighten it with the plastic side cover not installed, so it's not that part that's causing an issue, any idea why this is the case?
    btw, thanks for the video, I would have no idea how to put it back if it wasn't for this video!

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter  Před 3 lety

      I'm not too sure to be honest. I did have some issues with the lever locking but every time it was to do with the washers. Often they looked fine in the area where you can see them but else where they were either not lined up or getting stuck.

      @@Chambers36TheEnter Thanks for the reply good sir.
      Update: I think it's caused by that plate holding the spring opening up a bit when I put it into the main housing, I tried several times but it won't stay closed when I insert it
      I try replicating your method (and the way you hold it) but I'm working on the right one (9 speed) so I have to hold it differently and it's a lot harder for some reason
      Do you know any other way to guarantee it not popping open on it's own?
      Thanks a lot!

    Hello. I havesame as yours a 3 speed that does not go up in 3rd as there is no click but I can push the lever all the way to pull the cable. Wondering if this process will help fix that before I open.

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter  Před 2 lety +1

      It might not fix it, as there could be a broken part inside. It could be that you just need to reset the ratchet system.
      12:48 the top part, if it is not in the right place to begin with then it won't work. It could be that your gear 1 is on gear 2.
      Good luck.

    The screw at the top won't open for me. Any suggestions ?

    • @Chambers36TheEnter
      @Chambers36TheEnter  Před 3 lety

      You could try holding the screw still that's underneath and then undo the top screw.
      Basically the top screw, screws into another screw that ends up turning as the top screw gets tighter.
