Old VW`s, a beer, the sun is shining and birds chirping in the background. Does not get any better than that.....👍
Jay, I finally figured you out when you say you have to visualize a "plan" for the cars you rescue...
You ARE the "VW Whisperer"!!!
🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐴🐴
That basketball gag was hilarious 😆
haha, thank you
I really appreciate the gumption you guys have to take on these massive rescue efforts. P.S. 'Austausch' = exchange (replacement) motor
Actually, none of these really classic '50's cars are being saved because nobody is crushing them anymore. I think oldest cars that get crushed daily tend to be 25-40 years old. These are the cars that get saved when fixed. 50's cars are pretty safe anyway.
@@alan6832 if they don get rebuild they will just rott away
@@evilmessiah81 But someone else will rebuild a true classic, but that '87 Sentra depends on you alone, besides, they can be spray waxed and preserved until they become even more classic and even more worth rebuilding to even more mechanics.
auto heitz is still in oparation... i looked it up on google....
love the channel.... you do a great job...
greetsz from holland...max
That dealer is in Garmisch Partenkirchen an alpine ski resort in southern Germany, Great video by the way.
He should have sold it to you 20 years ago.
The T-top that flew, that's a great story! XD
It was way off the highway too, in a little clearing ...unreal, if I didn't see it with my own eyes I would of never believed it. A State Trooper pulled over and asked me what we were looking for..." You looking for a gun " he asked. "No " i chuckled " my GF unlocked a t-top oon the highway and she is looking for it" ...we both had a laugh :)....
Made a great glider apparently! Amazing it survived, too.
Make sure that if you decide to let this one go to a friend you charge them a clean out fee. Great video! Hope you have a great weekend.
hi Marty, good idea ! thank you
Auto Heitz in Garmisch is still in business! Live in Garmisch currently, funny watching your video and see my local VW dealers listed on the service booklet from 1963. Good luck on the restoration. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
I get it 5150 ! It's the Journey in life ! Not the end ! We all have the same End ! But not the same Journey ! Live Life ! Think Good Thoughts ! Don't Feed the Negative ! Straight Ahead ! ✌😎 PS some times i get a cold one go into the garage and lay down under one of my old cars and just look at it !
The first page of the paperwork in German is a guarantee for an exchange motor (6 mo. or 10000 km). The second page is the certification from the garage that the motor #1495362 was replaced by the motor #1464723 which one has to show to the equivalent of the DMV. I would assume then that since the number of the replacement motor is less than that of the original motor, the replacement motor was a rebuilt one.
Thanks @roog49 enjoyed reading that 👍
While I'm LIVING,in a VAN,down by the RIVER.. Classic shirt there J..
Working on cars in track pants? Blowing the inside out with a yard blower? Is this a New England thing? Rock on!!😘
I like seeing these videos by a local guy. I pass by your shop a few times a month. Always interesting trying to identify where your travels bring you since I am from your area, also.
I towed our 1970 cabriolet 200 miles, the car was facing backwards on the uhaul. The original trunk VW sign let loose sometime and caught/saved itself between the aerial and the windscreen. It’s back in place and lives another life. So glad you saved the file… Nice car.
Thanks for the update. Keep ‘em coming. Good luck with the next rescue.
thank you, much appreciated EDL
I appreciate that the old guy held on to it for 40 years so you could save it , but I can’t help thinking how nice it could be if stored indoors
well, we found a nice 59 a few weeks ago...they can't all be time capsules :)
Crazy story about that Beetle. I like your channel. By the way, you have the papers of an "Austauschmotor" wich means that the engine was replaced by a new one in 1963. Strange that it only lasted 7 years, I thought the Beetle engines were somewhat undestroyable. Greetings from Germany, Andreas
1976 was a very excellent year, there garcon. Due to the fact that 1976 was the year I lost a certain something with a certain beautiful, wonderful, awesome girl,at the ripe old ancient age of..12.5....Literally at the 4th of July fireworks show in Pensacola Fl,and again later at Pensacola beaches Ft. PICKENS where all of our folks had the rvs,and campers, and kids tents set up for that long weekend and the following 2 weeks of summer vacation on the beach... Most wonderful premium memories of my pre teen life right there !! 😂 Is there any mention of these awesome events in that newspaper J?😅
Another great video Jason.
Hopefully someone who's good with a mig welder and grinder get their hands on that 56 to replace the rusty metal. I had to replace all those panels on my 69' vert during it's pan off restoration. Salty roads do amazing things to cars. Lots of cutting, grinding and a few rolls of mig wire. I think I'm still blowing grinding dust out of my nose years later! :) Keep up the good work on your channel.
Alright the Adventure continues!
:), more soon , thank you
Superb leaf blower technique!
It's awesome that you put some hubcaps on her for this video!
So, I am watching the video and I could swear I saw Carl Spackler sitting in a Adirondack Chair next to the 56 Oval VW Beetle. He just needed a golf club and a gopher coming out of the VW! But, once II saw the cavernous holes inside the VW I knew it was you Jason (you VW Rescuer you) 😅🤣😂. To get a vision for the car you just gotta stay focused.... hehehehe😁. Thanks for another great one friend. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Funny video! Many good laughs 😆🤣
When I found cars like this the first stop was a self serve car wash. I would spend hours and money cleaning out my barn finds. The worst was a 62 Porsche 356 that had almost rusted into the ground.
I did the same thing with a drink on the bumper of my Chevy Atro van back about 1992 or so. Left the bar, got home. Went outside the next day, walked past the van, and saw that drink on the bumper. It was something red in a glass glass.
Oh damn I would love to get my hands on that. Would make a great restoration! You got some great paperwork for that!
Wow!!! It made it without falling off!!! 😳😳😳
That was a strong T top 😂
'Austausch Motor' means Switch/Exchange Motor... and though being not overly familiar with vehicle paperwork, based on what I could just read...the motor was replaced (1963) with another motor and they give you the new number which they recommend you get added to your DMV record for the car. This was done in Southern Bavaria (Garmisch-Partenkirchen) - the former owner was US Military? Garmisch has a vacation facility site there for US military personnel and families and likely some sort of military depot/small base/facility in the region.
Great video Jason. An other great find
Thank you , much appreciated
I remember that reserve lever. I had to use it one night with Cynthia . She was a looker. The birds love you. 1962 with Cynthia. Her brother drove a 1960 Jag e type. Go get another one.
This time Jason fires up the leaf blower supreme.
It's by his own account, that Jerry Garcia improvised his music all the time.
When Jason cleans out a VW, it's like when Jerry Garcia was improvising on his guitar.
It's fresh, unique, and entertaining as all get out.
The Austausch Motor means that the engine was replaced officially by VW.
All Beetles need saving! Heh, as far as I'm concerned, that "patina" look is always a winner, on someone else's car. Given the resources, and climate, (UK? Not.) I'd get it sand blasted back to metal, repair panels and paint it that original mid red that I had on a couple of mid 60's Beetles 30+ years back. Can't rem the colour's name.
Love the VW's! Mine is only a baby, a 1972 rag top, in baby blue! My baby! We enjoy your videos. Tom has a 72 bus!
Crazy Story for Sure So When's Mustie One Coming Over to Will it Run Episode lol!!! Got line everyone up same places so we can compare classic 😎 👍
I wonder if the dash color is because the P.O. smoked ? .
My '59's dashboard has -so- much tobacco tar on it I can't figure out the original color .
The rear parcel shelf certainly looks like Strato Silver to me .
Using a leaf blower is hilarious .
The local boys hereabouts would be going gaga for that de laminating windshield .
Nice to see you grasp the work it takes .
-Nate
I've replaced the entire bottom 1/4 on my 72 and in retrospect, it was kinda fun, no real headscratch fitment issues. but lotsa bracing! Good luck and subscribed!
Nice work 👍, thank you
Good.job😄👍👍👍👏👏👏Nice car 😍
loved that 2-point shot through the car (or was it a "foul" shot??). Good luck with this one!!
Thank you , I got shooters roll on that one
I put my wallet on the trunk while putting my sisters child in the baby seat, getting in the car at the front, I remembered I looked thinking it was on the inside rear parcel shelf. In reality it was outside the car for 5 miles.....lol
Looking forward to you getting that 36hp running again. That unmistakable whine sound is so sweet
Does the whine come from the transmission on those older bugs?
@@bugnut82 It depends on the transmission, the early 36HP's had a different fan, it moved far more air and often whistled .
In 1958 (? IIRC) VW made a running change to quiet it down a bit .
I used to replace the fans on Customers cars by request .
I saved a few, my '59 has one now, it'll never overheat in the Mojave Desert where I like to drive =8-) .
-Nate
Hell yeah!! Git er done RAD DUDE!!!
Wheres the "car washin' song"?? Haha
Crazy to see the seats in such good condition but the floor all rotted out.
I saw elsewhere that that is pretty common with Northern cars. You want your bodies from Arizona and your interiors from Canada.
It's very cool what you do. Those ovals are getting pricey. You gotta a few. Busses are money too. So ya can sell slow and make money as ya go.
thank you
That is a good project car and you can always rebuild a beetle.
yes it is, and it it will, thank you Dave
Hi Jason....At first when the trunk lid was opened I thought it was going to be the pinecone vidio Lol...Well it's summer you could leave the floors open would be like A/C...😅 Great Vidio Jason!👍
Nice basketball shot ! Meadowlark Lemon would be proud.
thank you... now there is a throwback :)
Love your videos although I’m sure you may have heard this from others. I’m 63 yrs old and I can definitely tell you to take better precautions with your lungs. You only have one set and they have to go the distance. Wear some sort of mask. Enjoy
Rick Flair Wooooo! killed me. LOL
haha, i was telling CT about how i mentioned him in the clip so he sent me a couple wooooo's lat night haha
german here, it says it was an original VW Replacement Engine. the original engine was replaced with 95148 kilometer on 17 may 1963
Hi , thank you for translating and providing me with the awesome information . I appreciate it
This has to be one of my favorites, not just because of the Volkswagen, but because of the bird's nest and the basketball!😂
😁, still waiting for them to hatch so i can work on my Sequoia lol. Thank you
I think this is the video where you find the title. That really floored me, I know exactly there that street is located in University City, STL suburb. I'm guessing he might have gone to either Wash U or SLU.
I agree with the previous comment by Larry, 'austausch means 'exchange'. So a factory replacement motor.
Big hug from friend 🤜🤛🇧🇷
thank you
that's a bigger project then i would want to take on buddy good luck big improvement on what you have already done good job
Very, very cool. I'm hoping to find something like that here in Kenya.
thank you, good luck on the search
I so much want to see it finished as I had one in 1973 a great little bugger it was😂😂
Rat rod....make it solid but please keep it old looking❤ i love this so. Far..wish i was tour neibor...so cool
I lost (actually my 1st wife lost) a t-top off of my 1985 Trans Am because she put them on but didnt lock them. Many many small pieces of glass. $900 to replace back in 1995, no bueno.
I found a Cell phone at the bottom of a highway exit.
Turns out it belonged to the guy in charge of all the West Coast Guitar Center stores.
They came all the way from San Francisco ....about 30 or 40 miles and with that phone on the roof of their SUV.
It had an if found message on the screen....
Well, that's one place to store your leaves, I guess! Maybe that big hole had the tree thru it! Another beauty Jason! They are all worth saving man. On another note, where were your seats in that new halen concert?
Feat: CT whoooow
Beaitiful car! Original austausch motor means original exchange engine
thank you! means they rebuilt the org engine or they exchanged it with a new, non org one ?
@5150mxVW this what I found: replacement engine(austaschmotor) refers to a used engine in which worn or defective parts have been replaced with new or overhauled ones, so that a functional unit is created in the end
They make the distinction with a used engine in that a used engine that has not been checked for worn/broken parts
I don't know if it is by definition a different engine from the original one that came with the car.
Thumb down by mistake, love these vids
Then thumb it up haha :)
Thank you
I'm having a Beer watching 😀
My allergies act up again! I'm not even there and that blow out! Woo!
yeah, i ended masking up to really get in and finish the job but i should have from the get go...I always feel like poo for 2 days after these cleanouts
This is the story of your life , the fight against nature taking over your cars .😂
You got the hardes working song birds in the state of Connecticut
I'm confused , are you rescuing VW's or compost? 😁
both, Jen has actually started planting things :)
The Mustie1 trailer stuff is even funnier because I saw the comment on the last vid. lol
I see 2 options. One is combine it with a desert car, which usually has good floors but bad seats and engine. The other is to weld the floors etc. functional but ugly, as long as the seats go back in the right place and everything is strong enough, that is good enough. Just weld in the sides of a bunch of old appliances cut and shaped to fit for 20 minutes or so. Interior welding need not be pretty, just strong a weather resistant.
Maybe you should get in touch with a cross country car hauler who can either ship your cars to the desert, ship desert cars to you, or both, since all your cars seem to need the same parts, in order to get those parts, like floors, you need cars from a different climate. You could travel if your car hauler is fuel efficient, but efficient long distance hauls are usually at least 2 or 3 cars at once.
I was three years old when that was built. Let that sink in.
This refab revamp is going be a charming nightmare :) Call her Marlene Dietrich
hih
thank you Bryan :)
Que lindo esporte.
You've done a good job of demouseifing it. If Mustie gives you grief about this car ask him hows the orange econovan is going as progress has ground to a halt on it as i keep seeing it in the background of all his vids. LOL
my strato silver car had the same brown over the paint. it was like the metallic rusted then turned brown because it was not active. Really werid
Great video mate
Thank you Mr M
😮old car would look great with some clear over that patina
Sec of State “shoe box” Paul Powell! LOL!
That car with the rust repaired and in drive-able condition would look sweet with the patina left on it, some black wheels with the stock caps and stuff and some wide white wall tires. Maybe a slight drop in the suspension but not overly low.
😱 Uuuuh, I definitely know that! I'm good in leaving my purse and/or wallet with all documents in it on the roof of my car before driving away. Over the years it happened 3 times that everything flew off and I always got everything back because of decent human beings. I must've an enormous big guardian angel. At least I'm always good as a bad example! 😁 ;-) 🙈
Do you actually restore the car after you get them. Sell them as is, or do you just collect them
Ah Garmisch. My favorite place in FRG.
When did a 1950s-era Beetle first become valuable?
Afternoon mate
Curious as to what is the tipping point on when to save or when to part out!
this is not even close to be being a parts car in the Northeast...if this was in cali , well it wouldn't even be considered a parts car ....
@@5150mxVW Yes, it would .
-Nate
My dad drove home with a circular saw on his truck mudguard
cool bug
A fuel powered steam cleaner will be a best tool for any restoration, or patina type cleaning.. Steam, and heat, along with water pressure will do what lots of elbow grease,a ton of effort, and a pressure washer wont. .
Woooooo
😃
I'm having an asthma attack just watching this.... 😛
lol --outstanding !!!!!
Jason. What is the utility of the central tunnel to this model ? Thank you.
Whoa! 🤣😆😂
So the leaf blower was pretty aggressive. Do you not have a shop vac? Can you say hantavirus?
nice job.
thank you Jim
Your leaf blower shots were beautiful cinema! A little slow motion, and it would have rivaled citizens Kane! Your a brave soldier, Jay
Excellent video Jason :) not sure why it Brown up on Silver unless want one vechile in not two them on original owner and very interesting too!
thank you Andrew
