    Just the other day I found 2 leaves of my jade plant that had fallen off at some point on my balcony and both were actually growing a new plant without my knowing right there on the cold floor :O feeding on nothing but the leaf itself... I put them on soil right away but I was genuinely surprised at how sturdy they are

    For a beginners I recommend just to put the leafs into the tray with a paper towel in it. A lot of light. No moisting, no weathering. After about three weeks they will develop an aerial roots. After that, you can safely plant them into the soil mix.

    A lot of succulents propagate this way! One of the reasons they're my favorite plant types. Another trick is to prune the your jade "mother" into a conical shape when you do prune. It'll begin to take on the looks of a tree and pretty soon you'll have yourself a jade bonsai! 👍

    Thanks for the suggestion to pop the plate in a bag! I dropped my very happy, purple jade recently and knocked off close to 100 leaves. I love growing jade babies! These are so much fun 😄
    I usually just put a few broken leaves on top of the soil in plants I am already growing. I use no rooting hormone, nothing except love and expectation, then voila! New life! I think I'll leave God to being God though 🤭
    I'm trying to give them away as my house will be taken over by Jade plants if I'm not careful 🫣

    You can do leaf propagation the same as this with pretty much all succulents, you just have to make sure you have a healthy leaf, sometimes twisting them a bit help them come off the stem without damaging the leaf. Jade is probably the easiest, I found some others will start to rot if they are sat on damp soil tho, so keep it dry if you have that issue, they can grow without any moisture as they will use all the moisture from the parent leaf to start growing 😊

    So I'm about to reveal some good news... You actually should place your Jade in direct sunlight. It loves the sun if you don't let the soil dry up too much. It will get more red, especially around the edges, which might make you think you've burnt it. But it's actually the only way you are ever going to see a Jade flower. I still havent seen it but my plant is still young...because I ruined the motherplant through years of mistreatment. 😅 I really enjoy the redness though; it gives life to the plant. I've only seen pictures of it flowering but its adorable!

    Coincidentally, I just put a couple of leaves from a succulent onto the soil. It's on the windowsill next to the shower. The original plant has needed very little water, the moisture in the air seems to generally be enough. We'll see.

  • @emmalemmadingdong69
    @emmalemmadingdong69 Před 7 měsíci +6

    I had a few leaves from my jade get accidently knocked off so I always stick them back into the pot to get new growth from 😊 Although I've noticed the plant seems to naturally split, so is it necessary to prune it or is it a matter of preference for how bushy you want your plant? I don't have a great deal of space so tend to like my plants to grow up instead of out 😅

    • @clovelyn58
      @clovelyn58 Před 7 měsíci +5

      I have a quite big old jade and I regret not prunning enough because the stems now are pretty tall and its so heavy it can't stand its own weight and it bends downwards, it doesn't look very nice
      It does split naturally so you don't have to prune if you don't want to but you might end up with a messy plant like mine lol

    • @bobbiechinn9578
      @bobbiechinn9578 Před 7 měsíci +3
