I think the reason Bender remains my favorite character is because he's really the only one 'brave enough' to be himself,..and pay the price for it. Everyone else is just hiding in their own way. I reflect on much ridicule I sustained in High School for being too independently minded. Bender resonates.
I think that the fire argument weighted heavy on his decision, even more that there were already a fire incident earlier in the school (the flare in the locker)

@@87alsjthactually that's not the case. He was definitely abused at him but growing up like that, kids adapt to abuse and as a result you end up with a troubled teen. Bender was a trouble maker because he didn't care about anything. Which was a result of his abuse. Him escaping home for detention just doesn't make any sense.

I see now what Bender did. he took the adjustment screw all the way out of the door check. so instead of closing slowly it just slams shut.. they must have had it turned all the way in so that the door would stay open for this scene. [ I worked building Maint at one time ]
About 3 years later I went back into the education again to fix the st kierans college situation i did well when i returned to school bit troublesome i hung in there for 5 or 6 years

Nah, school was a low key sanctuary for him. He was being abused at home so that’s why always got himself detention; less time at home.
