My fave too. What a beast. Imagine being 20 years old in 1942 and ending up sitting in one of these for the first time.
You had me at "The instruments are significantly easier to read". People, if you want to try a warbird, the P-38 has a much more forgiving take off and landing than the tail dragger warbirds. I love it.
Yamomoto was an incredible mission, far from basic and to the limits of many things. Flyiing very low over the sea and Aux fuel tanks being dropped moments before pulling triggers with a 10 minute time on target due to distance from take off, and the surprise of 2 target planes not one. Then a long flight home and to land burning fumes. It would be an incredible thing to try and replay on FS, but of cse... not within a bulls roar of actual.
Great video! Loved the exterior shots, the over the water footage looked great. A fantastic plane.
It's my favorite too! My dad flew them in WWII. Some of his missions were searching for the "Eagles Nest". Thanks for the wideo!
Very cool. Do you know which unit he was in?
@Spectre407 unfortunately I don't know that information, my father passed in 1985. Nobody in the family seem to know where his papers went. 😪
Really enjoyed. Especially showing your landing from external view. Btw, great landing.
Excellent.
GREAT review and flight! I just bought this and I absolutely LOVE this lil gal!😍The Swiss army knife of WWII aircraft...
I don't have much, if any experience with these older aircraft (lol..heck, I'm pretty much a newbie to MSFS anyway, on a Series X!) You mentioned/tweaked manifold pressure several times. I guess I'm thinking that more RPM = more manifold pressure and vice versa. How does one more accurately dial in/out manifold pressure more accurately and why is this something one should keep an eye on!
BTW...FlyingIron has an EXCELLENT downloadable flyer's guide on their website under this plane that REALLY helps with getting to know the P38...first-class vendor!
Can't wait to try it. I certainly hope the spitfire gets this treatment. Up until now the milviz corsair has been warbird King IMHO
Did you try DCS TF-51? I got Spitfire and I'm experiencing a strange feeling the physics in MFS is worse compared to DCS.
@@darthmaullord A2A simulations will be releasing aircraft for msfs soon..its up to thd dev really kn how deep they want to push the flight model. Flying Iron vs aeroplane heaven Spitfire is a perfect example
Thanks for shitting line on this update I would have missed it
You did not hear the canopy rattle, that was the engine. You have to take off with canopy unlocked and you will see and hear the canopy rattle, lock it asap. The canopy rattle will gradually start at 125mph, reaching its apex at 175mph after which it'll be ripped off. If you open the latches above that speed it will be blown of right away.
Ahh .. my bad. Thought I caught a different sound there.
The model is super nice but it's engine sounds are way off, sounds like a twin Cessna. Their new F6F Hellcat's engine sounds are awesome. I keep hoping this model will see a proper engine sound set in the near future.
Love the video as always! How do I download this latest update? I haven't received any email notification or link?
I see it is a little stuttery for you as well as I. Otherwise, I really enjoy this plane as well. Thanks for all your videos.
You might have covered this in the vid, but I may have missed it… which airfield is this? I’d like to visit it in my sim :) also, great landing!
Great plane but is there a reason why I canot get the gear down again?
aileron boost:) and i think you overspin props and she get too low pitch and prop drag give some speed drop, in my case she flight faster at 21mp/1600rpm:)
still a ways to go for audio/sound
Yes, agreed.
When will they add a mod for guns and enemy's though?
I'm thinking of getting this, particularly because Flying Iron keeps improving and tweaking it. The only problems I see in the video are the prop discs, which seem very dark and distracting from both within the VC, and in external view. The engine sounds aren't very convincing either - a bit 'tractory' as AvAngel would say on her channel. These concerns have been mentioned on various forums, so hopefully they will be addressed. Other than that, a perfect Lightning. Thank goodness for developers like Flying Iron.
True, but the prop disks give you a really good sense of scale in VR and the sound is a bit repetitive/looped, but hey it's a fantastic plane to fly in the sim.
@@simonhughes-king8493 Not yet using VR, but thanks. I'll wait and see if the discs get sorted - there are some replacement ones available at Sim Outhouse.
Love your videos.
Just one question, why do you hate altitude??
While the P-38 can climb like a homesick angel, flying down low takes on a new flavor when you strap 3000 horses to a 52-foot wingspan.
@@BogeyTheBear okay, works for me.
@@BogeyTheBear3,400HP. The P-38L was approved for 70” MAP on 44-1 150 octane fuel in the 8th AF.
Will this be available on the Xbox ?
Its been submitted.to Xbox Wednesday. Now we wait for Microsoft to approve it
Thanks for the video. However, your landing procedure is far from what it should be. Please, take a look at page 30 of the user manual. It tellls you the required speeds and when to deploy landing gear and flaps. From the checklist you do not get the approach and landing speeds. Final glide 130 mph, over the fence: 110 mph, touch down: 90-100 mph. You come in way too hot. No wonder your landing was quite difficult.
How do you fix a overprimed engine?
Let it sit for a few minutes
'Positive rate gear .... er no. Flying level at 100' will not get you a license if you lip service 'positive rate
It is a shame bout the awful sounds. If I had a 12 cylinder car that sounded like that I would get rid of it. Lawn mowers on each side do nothing for me and I won't be buying this until they fix the sounds.
I have been disappointed several times with offers from different developers where everything looks fine but sounds awful. If it sounds bad then it won't be in my virtual hangar. Why are developers failing to gives us the sounds that are so critical for immersion? Is it something to do with MSFS itself? If so then other developers are not suffering from this. Surely with all the audio tech in the world today developers can do better.
Totally agree. The engine sounds are critical to immersion for many of us.
"Unique"
Not that unique, don't forget the British Mosquito.
It's the tail.. :) changes the game I think lol
@@OverkillSimulations
Fair point. I was forgetting the Mosquito didn't have the twin boom
You can tell a Mossie fan by how quickly they say the Mosquito does that too, then turn around and say the Mosquito was a plane unlike anything else.
