- This video summarizes available information on the discovery of the SANDRA, which was featured in the premiere of season 2 of History's Greatest Mysteries on @HISTORY. The disappearance of the SANDRA in April 1950 was featured in Larry Kusche's 1975 book "The Bermuda Triangle Mystery - Solved."
The SANDRA was built in 1928 as the yacht QUEEN ANNE in Kiel, Germany. She later served in the U.S. Navy as the patrol yacht USS SARDONYX (PYc-12). After World War II, she was sold off as surplus and was bought by a Central American owner, renamed SANDRA, and was employed as a freighter.
On April 5, 1950, she departed Savannah, Georgia for Venezuela with a cargo of insecticide. She disappeared and no trace was ever found of her...until now.

Just wondering.. is there a chance someone could go and do a general investigation to try and determine why she sunk? It seems someone would at least try and get more information before there is not enough left to investigate. I am very interested in learning why she sunk in calm weather and no one was able to get off.. I sure they had a radio transmitter by the 1950s.. I had a radio from a police car made in the mid 1940s, that was unbelievable transmission power for the time.
Msybe oneday I will be in a position to search for the "Sulfur Queen". Few clues point to near cuba where they found some debri, life rings and a large plank with her name, and another ship reporting a strong smell of sulphur... amoung other things.
Yeah I know its just a pipe dream.
