If Philippines builds 95,000 cars last year and 190,000 cars this year that is 100% growth. Build 285,000 cars, that's 200% growth. Meanwhile, if Thailand builds 1,000,000 cars last year and 900,000 cars this year that's -10% (negative) growth. But that doesn't make Philippines the best manufacturer, far from it.

These Thai commenters were buffled why the Philippines economic growth is higher than Thailand when their country is much better than the Philippines according to one netizen. I think some Thai netizens have a negative outlook to some of its Southeast Asian neighbors the likes of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam & the Philippines. There is a frantic move to switch to EV among automakers now, and perhaps the reason why Vietnam and Malaysia lag behind, they maybe switching to EV car production, like most of North American automakers. Snippets: Wag kalimutan mag build ng garbage trucks for all 3-regions to pick-up trash from house-to-house twice weekly. Another thing, mag build tayo ng affordable vehicles for families na wala masyadong keta at full-time Job. They cannot afford expensive vehicles you are making for abroad consumers. They need inexpensive and affordable cars to take them where they need to go, (e.g., work; market; for vacation to visit families, and so forth). We have to get rid of all tricycles and all jeepneys off the road -- drivers can find work in factories or drive trains and monorails, etc. God bless you hard-working Philippinnians. we must behave. nov2023

Philippines need to start manufacturing electric cars. Vietnam is already manufacturing them. The Philippines should go for the top shelf high value low cost technology. There's no reason why the Philippines should be lagging behind Vietnam.

Number 1. Is this really true ? I believe in : Believe but verify !
It's said that an electric car has 129 less part than a gasoline powered car ! That's a big deal. I also read about this car wherein the exhausted car battery that propels the car can replaced using a robot for a new fully charged one in less than 10 minutes.

Mahirap yan.

But the only automotive production company here that manufactures some parts are toyota and mitsubishi..... Large percentage of car sales here are mostly imported from thailand and indonesia (innova, xpander ) etc..... im not sure why mitsubishi is not setting up manufacturing of parts of xpander and assembly plant of xpander on the philippines i think dti is pursuing this plan with mitsubishi. But all in all we have a little manufacturing of automotive in philippines all are mostly imported

Not anymore kasi kaka expand lang din nitong dalawang companies. Also we don't import cars from Tahiland that much anymore. The imports mostly come fom Japan, Sotuh Korea, and Indonesia. Hindi na gaano sa Thailand. Mga iniimport lang yung mga Suzuki at yung mga Chinese brands except Foton.

If the Philippines manufactured automobiles, show me the export data that we export manufactured automobiles. You can't. Because there's none. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Check out Peter Zeihan's analysis why it is more difficult and more expensive to manufacture electric vehicles as well as to set up a dedicated electricity production, storage, and distribution facility in the entire world. It would require mining and processing rare and expensive ores, metals, and minerals than even exist in the entire world. Gasoline and diesel-powered engines do not require rare and expensive materials so they will remain the mainstay of all vehicles for decades and centuries to come. Perhaps if asteroids and other planets can be mined for the rare minerals, it might be possible to convert from the internal combustion engine to electric vehicles but it may also never happen.

I really can't say id buy a car or vehicle made in the Philippines. I asked a Filipino worker in a store sir do you have tabasco he right away said no. I looked on my own two isles down I found tabasco. So that's pure laziness. There have been other places and workers the same. A Filipina worker in Ace putting on makeup while sitting in the isle ignoring what I was looking for. So I can't imagine there cars.
