The whole concept of the cosmic imagination is just extra awesome if you know that the whole lich/mushroom war narrative wasn't even planned and exists partly because of the fan theories and stuff
How come lol
@@freesteylerr082 there's interviews with, i believe, pen ward, talking about they hadnt planned that at all and the first seasons it was just kinda random stories but people started coming up with theories about it being a post apocalyptic earth and they liked that idea and started adding that. And in the show entire worlds /dimensions are created just because the inhabitants believe them to exist. So it's like the same thing happened in our world, because fans were comin up with theories about the backstory it came into existence.
@@PhilieBlunt666that's so cool damn
@@ad4wave I definitely think so, its really awesome when shows actually listen to the fanbase and create future stuff according to them
I refuse to believe that was not planned, literally the first frame of the intro we see nukes and devestation, and theres a lot of hints for that in first season alone.
The Cosmic Imagination is such an interesting concept. The way I explain it is that it’s like having a dream. When you sleep you can dream anything, everything, anywhere, anytime. It’s not always a lateral flow, which is why there’s the muck time paradox of the Enchiridion. When you wake up from the dream, and there’s no one to perceive it. It ends.
Great explanation. Couldn't have said it any better
literally azathoth
@@eleventyfour227 more like yog sothoth
@@eleventyfour227 Not literally, I don't think. The cosmic imagination isn't a single entity dreaming up the multiverse, it's the collective consciousness of everyone in the multiverse. The multiverse is described as a "consensus reality shared by the minds of all sentient beings" in the Enchiridion, and this combined with the notion that the multiverse would cease to exist if nothing perceives it, implies that the cosmic imagination is simply the sum of the minds perceiving the multiverse (and therefore creating the multiverse, as the multiverse is a mental construct). The cosmic imagination is, essentially, the ever-changing consensus among all minds of what the universe is. Everyone is part of the cosmic imagination.
@@eleventyfour227 >literally azathoth
They even have their own azathoth stand-in with golb, the blind idiot god
people commonly confuse universes with dimensions, but i like to think (in the adventure time lore) that the multiverse is a village, the universes are houses and the dimensions are rooms of these houses. for example: both lumpy space princess and lumpy space prince comes from lumpy space, but lumpy space princess is from finn and jake's universe lump dimension while lumpy space prince is from fionna and cake's universe lump dimension. in the other way, prismo's time room, cosmic owl's home and the citadel are from places that do not belong to an especific universe, so they should not be named dimensions, but places that structure the multiverse since its beggining, understand it?
Yeah that's a pretty good way to explain it, I understand. But then what would you call places like Prismo's time room, Cosmic Owl's home, the Citadel? Would they just be called dimensions without a universe. Or are they universes themselves with no dimensions? Or something completely different?
@@paxw37 i believe they're something completely different, just like the dark place where Golb lives
@@renancamp Dark place is nothingness
@@paxw37they are more like physical paradoxs hence the confusing layout
A better analogy is the cosmic imagination which is the sentient infinite multiverse is like the capital of the world and there are infinite amounts of states (other multiverses) and cities that represent universes and other dimensions as houses
The Cosmic Imagination is the team of creators, writers, and artists that make the show. The Multiverse is the show itself, the creation of the Cosmic Imagination. And the dependence on perception is less about the created inhabitants of the multiverse perceiving their worlds themselves, but the non-creator inhabitants of the space outside the Multiverse (us the viewers), who don't have direct control over the Cosmic Imagination, but are required for its survival.
I interpret the multiverse as a big Dream, and The Cosmic Imagination is the dreamer/Dream. And Beings like the Lich and Golb serve as the End of it, a sort of "alarm clock" in a sense. Once all beings within the multiverse die, there is no one to perceive it, ending the Dream. The concept of Dream within the Dream is thrown around a lot in the series' lore.
super informative! i've always heard about the Cosmic Imagination in Adventure Time but it's one of those things that never really gets an explanation in the series proper. This is a great way to describe the concept and i especially like all the little metaphors that you give. it helps break down the wide cosmic concepts and make them seem practical and approachable. Thanks for the vid!
Thank you so much!!! And no problem!!
I've known about the cosmic imagination for a little while, but when I first learned about it, one of my biggest questions was how it relates to death and the deadworlds. Are the deadworlds part of the multiverse? or are they something different? And if everyone dies so there is no one to perceive reality, what about the deadworlds? Isn't everyone there technically still perceiving reality?
That's a good question. I think the deadworlds are apart of the multiverse, but maybe the 50th deadworlds doesn't perceive reality. Everyone up there just seems to be chilling, not really doing much. But Idk, maybe that could be a totally separate video
I guess perception is not based on the mind and body but on the soul. Ghosts and those in the Dead Worlds can still be perceived. Total destruction of the Multiverse would require the eradication of souls, gods, and similar transcendent entities. Not even the Lich or GOLB have ever gone that far.
I personally think that the dead worlds are required to both perceive the afterlife to existence and a way to recycle soul/perceiver into the new vessels such as the case of dead world 50 a whole dead world with the sole purpose to perceive the afterlife
It's like the whole 'Maybe all everything is, is a conscious void, dreaming about the infinite possibilities of existence and what it could be, and everyone is just a different focal point/point of awareness inside the dream?'.
Honestly adventure time is so weird but in a good way I dont get tired of its lore
Same. I could talk about it for ages
Love this one, great job bro!

Same bro, I love Adventure Time. And thank you so much for subscribing!!!
Ah, you're the Cosmic Imagination guy lol I came across your earlier videos about it during my initial deep dive of the series. I think it's a fascinating theory- I recall the video where you tied cosmic imagination to Jake. Which, I'm inclined to agree, considering the numerous times Jake has foretold or foreshadowed events just by theorizing or thinking about a certain event. He's not always right, but that doesnt mean he isnt accurate in other ways. I think it's an interesting philosophical question, in that, if theres no one around to perceive reality then does reality truly exist? Does the forest exist whether its perceived or not? It's a question that asks more questions lol great job as always!
That's why I love Adventure Time. There's so many ideas and philosophy in this show that you can easily apply to the real world. I think the writers did such a good job at that
@@paxw37 Absolutely agree w this- AT came at an interesting time for me. I was old enough by the time that it first started airing that I was invested in my own life and never got to watch it. At the same time, I was going through this philosophical change that by the time I learned a little about lot of different things, including the basis of Hermetic principles, Alchemical symbolism, string and multiple dimension theories, and general metaphysics (mostly in research for my own literary work), that the show had finished running. I took the opportunity to watch it a few yrs ago and I'm quite inspired by its storytelling mechanics.
Plus I'm a fan of anything positive that brings peeps together and lately I've found the AT communities to be nice, creative individuals w depth and perception. They're fun to talk to for the most part lol ty for taking an active role in providing excellent content and being active w your subscribers
Thank you for explaining it, I saw other videos about Adventure Time that mention the Cosmic Imagination, but those didn't really explain very well what it was. It's kind of funny because I wanted to do something very similar for my stories, but it's a good thing that it is still different.
No problem! Yeah, that was the hardest thing for me to understand, so I thought making a video about it would help me too
I love this channel
❤️❤️
Your videos are good mate
Thank you bro!! I really appreciate it!
Wow! Looks like the upcoming Adventure Time spin off series with Fionna and Cake spin off series will be a multiverse show as well. Looks like Finn and Jake will meet them via multiverse

The Enchiridion really is just the Necronomicon of Ooo
So Does that make GOLB stronger than the Cosmic Imagination,. Because Golb is said to exist before reality and is also on a higher Dimensional or even Beyond Dimensional Physiology and lives in his own domain outside Reality itself and oversees all other universes as Rocks ?
I bet Golb and the Boss are aware of the cosmic Imagination or are even on the same level as it
that warping sound effect you use as transitions/emphasis is.. something.
I hope fionna and cake series ends with in-cartoon, Pendleton Ward waking up
How about Cosmic Owl’s dream manipulation? And i belive he can travel between multiverses aswel. Cool video!
Yeah I would love to do a deep dive about that, he's such a cool and interesting character. And thank you!!
that fucking sound effect playing every 30 seconds.
It must have hurt Pendleton Ward's head trying to come up with all this stuff. I wonder how he and the AT crew did it.
I love adventure time and I love your videos
Same!! And ty so much!!!
Sounds more interesting in Toaru, but interesting nonetheless
Huh, how very interesting, i wonder if Fionna and Cake will explore this further?
The way you talk about the Cosmic Imagination reminds me a lot to Versus Debatera. Have you engage in those debates perhaps?
Dependence on perception is best exemplified in the Beetles band themed film "Yesterday".
Never did find out why that happened...
Basicly the same story of vishnu dreaming this world
Dang😅
I really wish he remembered the primordials. I would have loved to see how he fits them into this theory.
I think thw 50th deadworld is the mechanic that feeds the perception into the cosmic imagination perpetuating creation. What i want to know is what is Golb's role in this. Is it the imagination trying to percieve itself or like colcentepi it is one of the original ideas from the imagination
1:41 🤤
Also I just realized the cosmic Imagination makes sense and actually makes the concept of wishing yourself into another dimension make sense. So you end up creating another alternate timeline because you believe it is real and because of your belief it creates another dimension. It's also why farmworld survived (I think) because Jake remembered it (or because FarmWorld dimension thinks they're real which is why it stayed after Jake wished it out of existence. That also makes me wonder if Finn and Jake actually prevented the lichs wish from working though since the lich believed it was real this creating an alternate dimension.
Yeah I think you nailed it. I think the inhabitants living inside Farmworld think they're real, so they keep on existing. As for the Lich thing that's still pretty confusing to me. Because we know he just stays still in Prismo's time room after his altered wish. Then finally acts when he can kill Prismo and be sent to the citadel
@@paxw37 he was just making plans, he wasnt frozen or something he was waiting for the right moment ti act
it's because Prismo didn't revert Lich's Wish, he just remake the Lich's form back, remake the Finn, the Finn that right before he made the Wish, and thats it
It's so interesting that I never truly grasped the real machinations of the AT universe until this very video, but as an adult I'm making my *own* narrative universe and it essentially works the same way! The fabric of its reality is all a metaphor for my creative mind, and (as weird as it sounds) I'm essentially the big bang god core of the universe or whatever while the denizens' known "pantheon" are canonically gifted with their powers and roles from me, to explain how their mere conception as characters and a setting could even exist. Even right down to how their powers are usually really random, outlandish, and cartoonish! I usually call the phenomena "Divine Tomfoolery" and a big race is clowns! (o:
That's so cool! Please keep me updated!!
Sounds a lot like what I do, we should work together.
if you make 3d modles of the shabes they can all inter conect in to a tetras block like the ones around glob
Yet another W keep them coming 💫
Thank you so much!!!
Loved the video and I know it might sound crazy but some of this stuff can be applied to real life, for example it’s said time is perceived differently in outer space and a lot can be said about cosmic imagination (something becomes true if everyone believes it to be true like money or calendars) another is how they say our reality is from the collective consciousness of all things and i can go on and on and on. I know it’s a show but it’s alot of truth when the way you explained it
100% agreed. I think a lot of these concepts can be looked at in real life
So if the lich is trying to kill *everything*, does that mean it’s trying to destroy the cosmic imagination?
can you do a video about the spider and how it came pls
Like the spider from "Web Weirdos"?
these videos are great! but my one critic is the 'Ryan Trahan' sound effect, its being used way too much!! other than that the video was great!
To understand the Cosmic Imagination, you have to look at two of their most important agents: Prismo and the Cosmic Owl.
Prismo's main job is to create new universes. When a wish is made that negates a previously made wish, a new universe is created:
The Lich wished for everything in his universe to die, creating the Dead Universe we have seen in the new season. Finn and Jake have been protected by being in Prismo's time room. When Finn wished for the Lich to never have existed, this would have stopped the Lich from making his wish, creating a new universe; the Farmworld. Jake then changed the Lich's wish to returning Finn and Jake to Ooo. This prevented Finn from wishing for the Farmworld, creating a third universe that the Lich did not wish dead.
These new universes are born from the imagination of the people living in them.
The Cosmic Owl makes dreams come true. But since there is only one Cosmic Owl in the multiverse, it can only appear in the dreams of one version of a person, making the universes drift apart from each other. That means there is only one universe where Princes Bubblegum got usurped by Princess King of Ooo.
So it uses the imagination of their inhabitants to give universes a unique identity.
How… causality.. I can’t tell if you’re just trying to mess with people.
Yeah I put a disclaimer in the video saying I pronounce it wrong and continue to pronounce it wrong for the entire video
i always assumed ampresand lives in the same dimension as finn and jake, just far away?
Cosmic imagination are just the devs of adveneture time lmao
❤❤❤❤
Remember me when u get famous ❤
Did you just read Vs battle wiki?
I think the cosmic imagination is more.complicated that shown in the video. Let me explain:
Since the cosmic imagination operates beyond space and time it percieves time differently, perhaps at the same time even. This assures that the multiverse doesn't cease to exist. As BMO sings "It will happen happening happened but you and I will always be back then". A book won't dissapear because it was forgotten because at one point someone rememmbered it so it will alway be rememmbered in the past.
Is this cannon and where has it been mentioned
Yes, in the canonical books The Enchiridion & Marcy's Super Secret Scrapbook
don't mean to be that guy but i do causality is pronounced Kaw-za·luh·tee
The adventure time cosmology actually reaches high hyper in the initiate level through the comics via MWI (yes, they are canon except season 11 and they also contradict the events of the show via ryan north statement); after that there is a structure of an unreal amount of dreamers that existence relies for itself to exist which should scale to possibly immeasurable layers into extraversal or boundless depending on whether or not it rejects hierarchal scaling, in the comics Finn has been shown killing (in his different incarnation and current) Arklothac, Zon and Ng'Zot Aa with the help of the sword of Lun; these primordial elementals are superior to the dreamers as they existed in the age of monsters where existence didn't exist yet.
Now I just have to find some transcendent comet scans and I can scale him high up even without sword of lun
Transcendent comet scan?
@@freesteylerr082 ehhh generally just scans from the enchiridion should do since they aren't vague
The thing about dimensions is not how it actually works in reality... The only reason that you can say that for 2d to 3d beings things is cause they are all spacial dimensions, however time is not a spacial dimension so that wouldn't apply... Plus there can be no such thing as a 2 d being, all dimensions exist at the same time to make reality possible ... Just try imagining something without thickness, it would be something when you're looking down at it, but when you flip it to it's side it doesn't exist, cause no thickness????? Then it can't exist.... We have to understand that dimensions are just measurable aspects of reality and not places or modes of existence ...
pillow world was destroyed by golb wdym
The cosmic imagination isnt its own thing, the cosmic imagination IS the collective belief in the universe shared by its inhabitants. The collective belief does not give rise to the cosmic imagination. Magic is not tapping into "it's" power. Magic is tapping into your own power by overpowering the collective belief with your own belief momentarily in the area around you.
It's causality not casuality! : )
There is no reason it shouldn’t be this way in this place. I think god (upper or lowercase) it far too small to correctly capture the nature of a “creator”. “All That Is” seems much more appropriate. I kinda also think that humans, perhaps in particular, somewhat reflect what a creator is. Everything is possible in our imaginations. For All That Is, its imagination birthed our universe. The real question is if All That Is is aware of what its imagination has done. Seems to reason that Its mind hold ideas/concepts just as intangible as we do. What if reality only exists when It thinks really hard?
Second also where’s my scholars of Golb vid
It's coming, soon...
