Not gonna lie, this one hit me right in the feels, I was folding my laundry and watching the preflight briefing and saw the USS Nassau, and I couldn't help but smile. I'm an old Jarhead, and my last deployment was with 22MEU in 2005-2006, and the Nassau was my home for much of that journey. On that note, to answer Super Cap's question on how you take an oil rig, the Nassau would have been equipped with everything you need as it usually carried a compliment of several hundred Marines, as would the LPD in the fleet. I think for an oil platform, probably helicopters like the CH-53 or the CH-46 or whatever other variants that they had in 1988 would have been the preferred method of attack, you could get a ton of Marines on the deck quick in a big bird like that. Not likely that they would need it in this scenario for the oil rig, but the Nassau also had a well deck in the bottom of the ship (that's why she's so boxy on the tail end) that can launch LCU's and LCAC's!! Those are landing craft capable of carrying a large compliment of troops and equipment. I love all your missions, but as I said, this one hit me in the feels, and I appreciate it!! As a veteran, a history nerd, and a valued viewington, THANK YOU for taking so much time to not only make sexy missions with lots of boom boom, but to also keep them as period accurate as possible!!!
Thanks Seth!
Hello Seth, I am the mission maker. Thank you for your comments, they are very pleasing to read. I spend a lot of time researching the forces involved, their equipment, and likely movements. I found out that the USS Nassau with its harriers was in East Africa at the time and could plausibly have been called to assist if things escalated. My missions are not always as accurate as I’d like to them to be, I always feel that more can be done, but I’m glad to hear that the effort is appreciated. I will do my best to keep this going in future missions where possible. You have yourself a good day, sir.
@@Bypass346 one slight historical inaccuracy that is bugging me -- from the initial flight briefing, the Shah is long gone by 1988 -- its the Ayatollah and his friends in charge of Iran. (Shah and USA were friends -- highly unlikely he would have turned against the USA, who was giving him all sorts of military support, such as F-14's).
Otherwise great mission scenario!
@Joe Mueller thank you for the correction and historical feedback. I did mean Ayatollah and will make the necessary changes in future missions. Much appreciated!
2 min after takeoff, Cap has broken "character" and used non-existent tech to start the mission. NICE
Cap: we havent got any weapons to fight them with
Me: ummmm am i the only one seeing the pair of sidewinders on their wingtips?
Thanks for the content guys. Sending some support your way for the excellent work!
E5: Exciting events enacted every evening!
Hmm, I don't claim to be an expert in USN carrier ops.... but I imagine jumping from one cat to the other after accidentally popping up the blast shield would earn you the mother of all bollockings from the carrier's Air Boss, Cap... 🤔
😂😂 yup
Hell yeah, the mighty checker board! The best squadron, to ever exist. Skid kids for life.
Poor one out for the guys in Reactor Department on the carrier. It's HELLA hot in the reactor room (not to be confused with the reactor compartment, where the reactor is) in the Persian Gulf. Steam equipment everywhere and no air conditioning. Just high capacity ventilation that brings in outside air quickly. I was on the CVN-71 in the summer in the Gulf. We had heat stress stay times as low as 20 minutes at some watch stations (Feed Pump Watch).
have you guys considered doing interceptors vs higher speed bombers (eg. 50s era, 60s era, 70s era, etc)? B-47, B-52, B-58, B-70, B-1, Tu-95, Tu-22, Tu-160 kinds of things, what aircraft could do it, and how many could they do, generation-wise like the intercepts of WW-II bombers. Most of those planes aren't modeled, but perhaps you swap in or modify other planes (B-52 with different stats for a B-47 or Tu-95, for example).
I'd like to see how mass bomber intercepts play out, Could you stop a multi-ship raid with B-58s with MiG-21s? MiG-25s? The problems of F-22s vs multiple opponents are very interesting, are there suprises lurking in trying to deal with multiple bombers in the jet age that are unexplored?
I want to know who fired those HARMS that ended up hitting the OHP Frigate lol Would have been funny if they were Caps 😂😂😂
If you have any questions about the DDGs involved, I’m your man.
Also, HARMs locking onto friendly ships was a real thing in the 80s. More than one close call. Hopefully, they worked that problem out.
Russia is currently shooting a lot of stolen and unshielded microwaves with harms. at least thats my assesment when they hit a apartment block near their lounch sites.
Awesome thanks!
I was waiting for the F15 to fly over and clear the catapult of the trouble maker
lol, Carrier Clearance F-15 best F-15 in my opinion.
Please recreate these fictional battles! Dogfights: Season 2 Episode 18 Dogfights of The Future!👍🙏
Finaly. Large scale missions again.
Please dont take this the wrong way: But I lissen to them before falling asleep. Problem is: I am slowly getting enough knowledge that I understand enough to be engaged.
Thinks my girflriend and I understand to much to lissened to to fall asleep but we got to much knowledge so we understand the stuff said and are engaged;
Arma,
WAN Show,
Level 1 Tech (IT security news)
Stelaris,
Cities Skylines,
Currently DCS.
Ps: Fuck the missle allert of the F14 Tomcat. It sounds like the heart alert of every intensive care monitor in the world (probably the other way around). Di dü Di Dü Di dü. I work in Emergency Care and it wakes me up and pushes my adrenaline over 1000.
Ps: I am drunk and also german. Please excuse my bad english.
Very interesting! More please!
The Enterprise didn't have hornets on this deployment. Had the right squadron, wrong birds
did you watch the briefing? or just skip to the action? lol the Bogs was being used as A6s are not available in game...
The F-18s were substituting for the A-7s. Likewise, AV-8Bs were substituting for the A-6s.
@@Wien1938 I know the A-6 and A-7 are not in game, a serious injustice. Love the videos though,
Wow! I would love to fly in one of these missions!
Applications to join GR are currently open in GR discord.
@@grimreapers Expect my application in many, MANY hours. I gotta get proficient with DCS world first...
44:15 lmao same!😆👍
The Shah? In 1988? Now that’s some alternate history
You’re coming in at the wrong “angle” Cap, or rather not on the angle. The rear half of the deck is ANGLED for a reason. You don’t land straight Aft to Forward, you land Starboard (right) to Port (left).
Roger, usually but the time I notice, it's too late.
I know this would be a pain, buuut, during the P to P conversation after around 29:30 between Cap and (?very good pilot?), there were lots of close ups on screens, whilst referencing targets and relative positions to each other. Could you possibly, at some point, put some text, over a temporary screen shot, pointing to who, what, where, with reference to; enemy, friendlies, targets and type thereof, on the cockpit screens, please, God bless your new family.😘
I checked the timestamp and there was no conversation or close ups?
@@grimreapers that's coz it's 30:20 when the close ups start, the conversation started earlier. After 29:30 is when they fire missiles, no idea what the target is when when he later zooms in.
yah!!!! thanks! request fulfilled!
nice
It would be nice if someone did a mod for Big E CVN65.......that would be sweet
It would make everyone happy.
And add a mod for CVN 80 enterprise.....oh and CV 6 Enterprise if dcs ever adds hellcats,wildcats,dauntless,avengers......ya know what ya get the point all the Ww2 naval planes of Japan and the US 😅
First! Look I did a thing!
You sure did bro
Nice
53:04 someone who said “negative, ghost rider, the pattern is full.”?
I LIED
Commando references always get me😂
The briefing for the mission was longer than the actual mission in real life. Somebody didn't watch The Fat Electrician's video on this.
I was just watching you play the su25 then post this then i clicked on accident onto this lol
Pretty sure the Tomcat could carry the FOX 3. But I dunno.
When are we going to get a goddamn Enterprise CVN-65 model for DCS.
That Crusader looks good in the debrief
After watching perhaps 100 GR vids it's now just hard to watch knowing Cap will screw something up (and be a-ok with it).
Daisy Cutters for Iran..
'Proportional'
Cap should buy an Alfa Romeo 75.
Tomcat baby! Love Flying the 14 with you boys . Tankie, you can be my wingman nay time hehe
Hi Hai my beautiful Mexican! x
@@grimreapers hehe cheers!
NGL I imagined Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite flying the F-14 during this mission. Maybe Napoleon was his RIO😂!!!
@@freedomfalcon haha Vote for Pedro!
Now I'm imagining a Top Gun movie with Napoleon Dynamite characters😂😂😂!!!!
213 Black Lions
Ok, so will the JBD still be up when the AC return? Will anybody even survive to return? Will anybody survive the JBD on landing? H'mmm🤔
Look at me breaking a thing.
I was there sag charlie
When are you doing another cc2 campaign?
Redcock shows to be assigned to the Carl Vinson, but you took off from the Theodore Roosevelt. Game is literally unplayable.
I like that Irish accent. Where specifically is it from?
I'd like to know that. I love his voice. I could listen to it all day.
Is this a server or a downloadable miz file?
So sick
Good work tomcat next time?
I can;t fly Tomcat in these big missions, there is a small bug which stops me making the video, so it's just easier for all this way.
Going feet dry
What does "chop sticks" mean? Or am I mishearing it
It's the name of one of the boys
@ryan graber oh ok, thanks. I thought it was some fighter pilot lingo
Cap, you're WAY too high and WAY too steep on those approaches, that's why you can't land.
YCBAR Rudy
What was that missile at 26:20?
I was wondering that too. Do you know what type of helicopter that was that fired it?
Sa342 Gazelle M missile.
That is a hot3, its a french anti tank missle, it has a range if 4.3 km, and is shot by the Gazelle, which can carry 4 of them.
Hey Cap, just a thought...
Could you mod a new super-supercarrier?
With 4 landing platforms for formation landing?
CAP why are you in a bug. The f14 is...sexy. right
