Original Medicare does NOT cover long term care. The confusion lies with Medicare Part B which covers skilled nursing facilities. Long term care (for something like Alzheimer's) may disqualify you. Additionally, skilled nursing facilities are not designed to help with things like eating, dressing and bathing. You must need true medical care; like changing a medical dressing from an operation.
Long Term Care covers between 50,000-100,000 per year. But premiums can be rather expensive. A single, healthy 55 year old man will pay approximately $1700 per year. They vary based on your age, health, gender, and marital status. You'll be asked to fill out a questionnaire or undergo a medical evaluation. The older you get, the more likely you will be charged more.
You may have to meet your elimination period- 30, 60 or 90 days in which you'll be responsible for the costs. After that there may be limits to your coverage. Your plan may have a time limit, perhaps up to three years. There may be a financial limit, possibly $300,000. You can also enroll in a plan with no limits but those tend to have much higher monthly premiums.
It is definitely a more expensive type of health insurance. Certain plans offer benefits for married coupes such as being able to draw from your spouse's benefits once you've exhausted your own. Additionally, if you itemize your deductions come tax time, you may be able to deduct your monthly premiums.

Would a 90yr old person who is too weak now to get up and walk on his own, and just entered a facility, qualify for long term care insurance? Thanks in advance

Honestly, it can be more difficult to find a carrier willing to sell a policy to those over the age of 84. Even if you can find a carrier, it is likely that the policy would be expensive. If you'd like, you can give us a call and we can see if there are any options that may work. 888-410-0344. Thank you for your question and best of luck to you!

what level of $$$ coverage would something at this level give you? I would suspect not much.

It really just depends. You have to look at the terms of the specific plans unfortunately.
