  • Oven method for crackling glass. Also called "Fried Marbles". I also have a video showing the Stove top method, which I found works better.

My Mom used to make jewelry from marbles. She did 450 degree oven for 1 hour. Then the ice water bath. She got a bunch of crackles.

I apologize for never getting the video done of the backsplash. We sold the house and unfortunately when I was completing the kitchen (ultimately painted all the cupboards white and used clear silicone to glue the crackled glass to the backsplash and then used a fine grit white grout) I had 2 kids to attend at the same time. One of my children is special needs and it was just not possible to give him the attention he needs and do the video. I will try to do this same technique and video it in the future.

Have you ever used this method on heavy glass containers such as cheap ashtrays. We did this when I was a Girl Scout many, many years ago. Just don’t remember how it was done. Baked it in the oven and dipped it in ice water. Don’t remember the temperature or the amount of time in the oven.

I put the oven on 450 for 20 minutes than submerge into the ice water and it gave a nice crackle look

We sold the house in June 2020 and I have photos of the backsplash but no video. I have 2 young kids and one is special needs so it sometimes is impossible to do the videos I wanted to do. I apologize.

Heya! Loves the video! I see you weren’t able to finish the backsplash. I have three sons all on the spectrum also. It’s a FULL on life and I wouldn’t change them for the world, but it certainly doesn’t always leave you with a lot of free time. And even simple tasks can become a demanding one that day. So I totally get it. I see you. But would be able to still maybe add the photos to the end of this video or something? So we can at least see how it came out? 🥰🥰🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

What did you use to stick them to the wall? I would love to do this on our ugly backsplash

Did you ever finish your backsplash? I am very curious. I am about to redo my counter and backsplash but have a very limited budget.

With all due respect.. perhaps the original 500 degrees was not bad idea after all.. less temperature.. less crackles.. I've done in oven and was amazed at the abundance of fractures through out each piece.. I'm all for making personal adjustments.. but to get a realistic comparison, I'd go for the original 'recipe' as well then decide if I was happy with my changes or felt I was cheating myself for not following directions.

    What was in the water?

Jackie Garroutte Crushed ice was in the water to make it very cold to get the best effect.
