Interesting method. Did you experiment before you did this coloring affect. Or did you watch another video, if so which one? I was going to do this same thing this week and surprised to see your video. However, in my initial thought before watching, I was going to mix same brand color in a misting plant sprayer after adding mostly water then coloring to a reddish brown color. Thus my first application to the dry pour would be the actual misting using colored water. What do you think, did you already try that method before the large patio in this video?

    • @BarkingMadLLC

This is FANTASTIC information! I think -40° is where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet 😮 … if you don’t mind me asking, where are you? That is waaaay too cold for me! My husband and I live with our kids in the White Mountains in Arizona. We get some snow but generally we only dip into the low 30’s F in late December, January, February (so, around just under freezing, like -2 or -3°C?) I’ve been in the U.S. for 21 years so I’m not great at Celsius anymore. I will definitely mark the air cell! Awesome Pro Tip! I do use distilled water in the incubator and I mist with warm distilled water every morning (those were tips I got from Angel Benner who sold me the hatching Hookbill eggs). I will use your method and try it for the manual turning, I did it about 7 times a day with a 90° rotation when I hatched out the flock that’s in my yard now… but it was my first time ever and I got only a 55% hatch… I was just happy I didn’t kill them all LOL!

This morning it was -6 C in there in the enclosed outdoor shelter where snow , wind and rain can’t get in it was -21 I added a heat lamp over the feed and water area in the outdoor part so they can eat and drink I shut it off when I lock them in the coop and I remove all waters for the night to help with moisture. I don’t like heat lamps but I have them hanging from the wood ceiling and the ducks don’t fly. It’s only while we get through this -48C windchill ( 3 days ) when it’s in -20 to -35 I don’t use any heat source

I myself have not tried incubating from a fridge However a lady I know in the UK bought a dozen eggs from the store fridge and 2 did start to develop Both did hatch but her girls have had laying issues No idea if being cold caused it or genetics Washing them off also takes the Blume off leaving the egg open to bacteria I would be extra cautious when handling this egg to prevent bacteria I’m so very sorry you lost the other baby My fingers are crossed for you this time Incubating is my favourite thing to do :) I have to pack mine away so I don’t use them 24/7 😊 My goose started to lay eggs 3 weeks ago Way off regular time It was so hard not to pull out those bators and hatch her offspring But our winters are cold here I just can’t do babies right now Today we are at -39 C with windchill of -49 c One thing I would do to keep that egg safe is every 3 days I would wash out the old water and put in fresh for the humidity Mom leaves her eggs to eat , drink and bath so taking them out isn’t going to hurt the egg. My broody duck would be gone up to 40 mins in the mornings and 20 in the afternoon each day. She got 100% hatch rate I candle my eggs daily At day 10 till lockdown I pull them out for 10 mins to cool and mist the egg with warm water ( use distilled water due to the egg being washed ) once a day I don’t do by the book lockdowns I follow my egg Things to look for at lockdown Shadowing in the lower back part of the egg Egg rocking around and the air cell dipping far up one side much faster That’s when I start my lockdown I run 40-45 % humidity till lockdown then 70-75 fir hatching My heat is 37.5 or 99.5 in my forced air bator I like to manually turn my eggs 3-5-7 times a day Always an odd number so the night time longer period isn’t always the same side Turn to the left then back to the right next time Never keep going around in a circle I get 100 % hatch rates most of the time If I do go lower it’s 90% I also mark my air cells weekly and weight my eggs weekly This way I know if my egg is loosing enough weight. I can adjust at the 2 -3 week marks if I need less or more by adjusting humidity levels Higher humidity gives smaller air cells as the egg looses less moisture. Lower humidity gives more weight loss Also marking the air cells helps a few ways You will see the weekly growth and know when it dips forward fast for lockdown Also helps to see if baby pips inside the air cell area If a bruise happens outside then you know baby needs help Hope this all helps you

Don’t give up yet The eye looks bigger then a few days ago With embryos it will look like 2 babies but really it’s the head / body with a thin string yoy often can’t see as the neck This is around day 10-14 Try to candle in the dark Don’t move the egg around just wait abd see if it moves I found certain times of day mine would move more then others When they die at this age all the veins will go quickly and into a glob where the embryo is When you move the egg around that glob will jiggle like jello in its spot The egg will look cloudy and no veins will be visible The not turning part may have caused issues and only more time will tell For now I would continue as it doesn’t look dead to me I can’t guarantee it will live abd hatch but that egg wouldn’t worry me yet As they grow the veins spread out more They will become longer abc thicker over time but not as grouped together as days 3-10 are If that makes sense My fingers are crossed Keep turning the egg by hand now and hopefully baby makes it

Thank you for caring about them, they’re truly wonderful. But don’t worry about the water, they are conditioned to not need water overnight while sleeping. They do get fresh water bowls in the morning ❤

Not very good. I posted a short of it this morning. Still has veins but not as vibrant and no movement. Really hoping for the best but I’m prepared that we lost the duckling.

@@waddleinnhomesteadthis morning is even more confusing, it’s not got a huge amount of veins but there are still some there and there’s no rotten smell, it’s a fresh smell in the incubator… soooo, I’m keeping it going until I know for certain, but I did discover the auto-turner was only pushing the egg, not turning it so now I’m manually turning (like what I did with my flock last May).

Oh you so just save my bacon! I purchased a vintage Leonard champagne bucket to resell and when I started trying to remove the tarnish I was overwhelmed with the amount of effort it was going to take. So God bless you for this ❤
