    it's bone chilling that the giants know they're going to be massacred soon, but also know they can do nothing about it, hiding their souls away in hopes for a better future. thanks for translating!

      Yes but wasn't defying their own proficies the whole point of the game did they not know that or did they choose to follow "fate"?

    • @sushivision
      @sushivision Před rokem +24

      @@camelboy23 yes they chose to follow fate. It was Faye who wanted to break the fate of her husband and son (but not her own), so she argued with the other giants and destroyed parts of Loki’s shrine in Jotunheim, and then painted a new one for Atreus and Kratos (that we saw at the end of Ragnarok).

      Ragnarok literally says this when angrboda says something like “They hid their souls in these marbles.” They do this because of odin. The song tells an entire scene from the next game. And no one figured that out. Nice job, God Of War devs.

    This song (and the Ironwood section of GOWR) really highlight the tragedy of the Giants.
    Unrelentingly vilified by Odin, and mercilessly slaughtered by Thor, they had no option but to flee to Jotunheim, isolate themselves, take drastic measures to hide, and just hope that Tyr was able to cover their tracks for them. Yet, despite all that, they still thought an Aesir invasion was inevitable. Haunting knowing that they were so sure of their extinction, yet were powerless to stop it

    It tells the story of EXACTLY happened to the giants. "Hammer Strikes to Sky."- Thor's massacre of the giants. "We Perish soon."- the giants know the will soon meet their demise.

      I think it's just bad composition of sentences. There were icelandic people complaining about Freya's spells, saying that her spells were just sentences in english translated via Google Translate. For example, when Freya cuts the Nidhogg's neck in half, she says "læsa rifa!" which (I think) it means "to close!", but Santa Monica implied that it meant "close!", like an order. The words are correct, but the conjugation is wrong, just like Google Translate does it.

    I might be slow but if heim means home that’s means it’s jotun home. So jotunheim aka realm of the giants also means a jotun’s home

    • @wellshit9489
      @wellshit9489 Před rokem +4

      "Heim" can also refer to "realm/world" since "heimili" = "home" and "heimr" = "world"
      Now that I think about it those words are probably related, huh. Anyway you're not necessarily wrong the word could've carried both meanings especially when used in poems which is the original form of norse mythology basically.

    • @501stcaptainrex3
      @501stcaptainrex3 Před rokem +4

    Those bodies are actually empty not slain by Thor or Odin there souls were taken out and put into marbles so that when it's there time to return from hiding agraboda can put there souls back in all those dead like bodies so that they can move again, that's pretty sneaky way to hide from the asire gods but if all or most of the giants are that big how the hell did Odin or Thor even managed to kill them all I mean the small human sized giants I can understand but the huge ones that's pretty hard to do even Thor with mlnoir hammer. Plus I thought the giants from Jotunheim we're supposed to be frost gaints like in the Norse mythology.

    • @soraxstacy1477
      @soraxstacy1477 Před rokem +5

      From what i remember, alot of Giants that Thor and Odin killed were either from trickery or a coincidence. There's also alot of Giants that are still alive, just hiding or in just haven't been "created" yet.
      Jormungandr was created when Atrues put the soul of a Giant in a Souless snake, Fenrir was created by putting Fenrir's soul into Garm. Cory Balrog and Santa Monica took alot of creativity with Norse Mythology.
