He lost to Ryu and Ma Lin in the olympics, both players he really should not be loosing to. He is a good player but is far from perfect especially in the mental game. He had the skill to be the best player ever in the game's history but did not make it so.

He could've been the goat of table tennis, evidently with how impressively he got into three olympic finals, which is insane, unfortunately didn't win any of those matches liu guoliang once said wang hao had the highest peak level of any chinese player, with how balanced/strong his backhand (rpb) and forehand game was. his mental game wasn't always there. liu guoliang was comparing wang hao to ma long and Zhang jike (who are both goats).
It was a wierd tournament from China. As far as i remember they lost two games to russia with ma lin losing his single to skachkov and i think they lost their double aswell. Against germany they lost this one. It was Ovtcharovs only win against WH i think. They won the finals against south korea 3:0 but every match was a struggle.
The World Cup isn't a really important tournament for the Chinese.The players may have been exhausted from other tournaments. 2011 was a WTTC singles year and in 2012 there was the Olympics and the WTTC teams event so 2011-2012 was a pretty intense period for the Chinese Team.
