- Found on GameFAQs, I cannot claim to have beaten the BK this badly in my life. Talk about being lucky.
Warning, comments may contain spoilers for Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn! - Hry
My first playthrough of this, Ike scored 3 aethers in a row and won effortlessly.
I thought it was scripted that way until I played the game again..
I couldn't kill him since my Ike never procked Aether, even at max strenght/speed.
It can only proc in melee range.
Yeah I know, I was pretty unlucky...
QcSlayer Seven it’s cause you need his skill to be high for it to activate
My Ike only procked aether once during my fight with him, but I figured I could win since I actually did bother to level my Mist and she had no trouble dealing with the soldiers and could keep healing him. Then I found out there was a turn limit after only getting black knights health down by about half.
It’s funny how this video is like the oldest FE9 footage on CZcams
I'd call that more interesting that funny.
I agree (sadly) with a…furry
@@AGZhark dude you know I’m not a furry right I made an character for a webcomic and they aren’t even the main character
@@SweaterPuppys Hopefully the video is not ruined, because I don’t feel like removing another from my playlist because of stuff like this
@@SweaterPuppysyeah whatever furry.
Thirteen years old and I get a recommendation for this nice.
13 years later, still hearting comments.
@@jheads5371 this is Fire Emblem there is no way I’m missing out on one of my favorite series of games.
Same here haha
@@jamessievers5914 now everyone is getting into the classics I even bought Fire Emblem Shadow dragon for the DS used way back before GameStop stopped selling most DS tittles.
Same lmao
I didn't think it was possible for Aether to miss but it happened to me on the BK fight he hit the first part but missed the second and I don't think I've ever yelled HE MISSED THAT louder
What about 99 Hit % and missing twice?
lol i feel you
TRY ENEMY HIT U WITH 1% CRITICAL WHEN THEY HAD FKING 0% HIT 😭😭😭😭
That's actually impossible. Game calculates HIT and then CRIT. 100% CRIT with 0% HIT will result in a miss unless a skill (like Resolve) activates which gives them enough HIT to land an attack.
Actually that's happened to me before. I was using an emulator (Dolphin) and have a save-state where Ike would do Aether. He never missed when I go back, but once I had mist heal Ike before he attacked, and he did not activate Aether until the counter or a turn later, don't really remember, but Ike hit the first part of Aether that heals and missed the next.
Looking back on it after all this time... The most impressive thing here is the raw force at which Black Knight hit the ground just by dropping to one knee. Goddamn that armor is heavy and that dude is strong 😆
He (Zelgius) is part-laguz, after all, so of course he'd be beastly strong. The question has been, ever since FE10, is what kind. The tattoo and the fact that he's ungodly fast even in that heavy armor seems to indicate that he's either part Hawk or part Raven. His black hair makes me think part Raven.
@@JanusHoW he seem slowly to my units

Did he just walk up to him slowly and F-smash?
Teddy Zorro yes
Teddy Zorro ye he did
Yo did he just made a smash reference in a fe video? Because I like it
Way too telegraphed. Ike whiff punished with F-Tilt.
@@Jiac. If Ike just used counter all would be over
I remember watching this video YEARS ago thinking “Oh, so this is where Ike from Brawl comes from” now the Tellius saga are my favorite games of all time lmao
Lol same. Rd and por are the ones that got me into fe, and it all started bc i played brawl.
@@lizzyleea OMG same here! I love this story, so it's story time!
I was trying to find a main I really connected with in Brawl back in 2010 or thereabouts, I went through pit and link and one or two others. I picked up Ike after watching his entrance into the Subspace Emissary (goat right there btw, both the gamemode and that cutscene). I loved him instantly then decided to play his original game. I had just played Twilight Princess at the time, so I was expecting something like that. To my disappointment, it was some weird grid/turn based game. I dropped PoR after the tutorial (I should note that my little 12 year old self had taken some time figuring out what an emulator was, downloading Dolphin, figuring out how to download pirated games, so on and so forth. The game also ran at about half the normal speed cuz our computer then was doo-doo). I continued to main Ike, and eventually I was bored one day and decided to give PoR another go. I got quickly hooked this time, and I cannot understate the amazing feeling I had seeing the first time Ike crit someone and killed them, since he used the quickdraw animation. I freaking lost my mind! Fast-forward 12 years to today, I still main Ike and always will, and Fire Emblem is my favorite franchise out there, with PoR being my favorite game of all time followed closely by RD.
Sorry for paragraph. I have an unhealthy obsession, and I need people to know about it lol
@@malcolmfletcher2659 Similar story for me, but whit Fates... and I just was curious for Corrin, but never mained them... and I don't have a favorite FE... and FE is not my favorite franchise, but between thrid and fourth... ok, diferent story for me
Yep. Same.
He used Luna 5 times in a row for me.
your profile picture was the Black knight when he just kept getting luna after luna
Some random Guy I was laughing in my uncontrollable rage.
i would just stop there. Just walk away and try again soon
When i first read this i thought this is fe7's famed luna tome.
That must suck
the black knight dropped his spaghetti and warp powder coming into the door and just completely biffed the fight
My encounter was exactly the same damage output wise. Ike did 9 damage, BK did 19. This fight lasted two actually turns. First time BK attacked, then Ike activates Aether and knocks him to 24 HP. I heal up Ike and have Mist deal with one of the bishops. BK attacks again, and activates Luna, leaving Ike at 11 HP. Ike pulls another Aether and destroys BK. I was so worried this would end badly and RNG blessed me so hard.
I know this is over 11 years old, but I remember a time when I was playing this game with my elder brother, and I fought the Black Knight, walked right up to him, engaged in Melee and then proc'd Aether once, then immediately on the following turn, I proc'd it again and got both strikes both times, meaning I essentially one-turn'd the Black Knight. My brother was in complete shock. :D
I remember when this video came out back in 07. Looks like it’s still a classic
This fight is so epic. Watching Ike and the Black Knight stand face to face after exchanging blows just send chills down my back.
ah yes that skill...this is radiant dawn for the wii
?
No
Path of Radiance, the prequel to radiant dawn
No
No
This is some Luke vs Vader shit right here! _So epic!_
Except the Black Knight killed Ike's father.
“You killed my father!”
“No, Ike, I AM your father.”
“No! That’s impossible!”
@@astracrits4633 black knight : you right l am not you father
The most funny thing is that Black Knight's armor is only supposed to be damaged with the Ragnell, but then I my RD playthrough I equipped Ike with a hammer and no more Black Knight
He mentions in RD how the blessing on his armor has worn off, so any weapon can damage him (though most of the time he's still not gonna take damage from anyone)
@@BlazeLink257 oh I didn’t remember that, sorry then!
Ike should be able to avoid that "Building up speed for 12 hours" swing from the black knight effortlessly. The battle being hard is on him.
Still the most epic battle :'|
Man, I remember the Black Knight wrecking the shit out of me five times in a row
@DeadlyDragon129 in case you still haven't found it, aether is the skill that Ike gets from using an Occult. you just have to have an occult and Ike has to have class changed (i think he changes after ch 17 ends). there are 4 occults and most of them are just in chests or received after killing/recruiting an enemy. stefan also gives one for free at a base if you recruit him (he's tricky so check online for details).
@GFirenight Then again, in PoR, once Mist becomes proficient enough with swords to use the Sonic Sword and Runeblade, she can absolutely destroy the battlefield and support her teammates using her mobility.
Their stats at 20/20 at simlar, with Rhys winning in MAG and RES, but Mist winning in Speed, Luck and Strength. Mist comes pre-equipped with Miracle and uses a horse upon promotion. Only downside is leveling up her sword stat all the way to B to use the Sonic Sword. Both are solid picks.
Recommendations got me here, now that's something
Go for it, Ike.
Memories I remember not liking this game as a 7yr old once my brother got in back ‘07 but since that exact week I’ve loved this game...This game is in my top 3 all time and I beaten it 15 times on Hard diff lol
Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done xD
@TheMasterfulHobbs Ike still has to do all the damage, I'd say having Mist a Valkyrie is almost a given, lol. It does help when Mist can heal Ike and deal with the pesky reinforcements though.
What makes this video awesome is how the BK only hits Ike once, and how Aether deals exactly enough damage to finish him off.
I see your point, here's mine: Hammer.
@Maxmagnus20019 Actually, I'm pretty sure 1 turn means 2 phases since Seize: 8 turns would mean 8 of those 2 phase sets.
BK: I’ve been defeated.... but I cannot fall here.
@Maxmagnus20019 I agree, I recently started using both of them in my playthoughs and they were both really good. I just found myself using Rhys more for attacking whereas Mist took over initial healing duty.
the power of friendship is unmatched
@Draycos324 Unless I'm mistaken, the Black Knight has the same stats on all modes, and Ike's stats growths are the same on all modes. The main difference between Hard, Normal and Easy is the EXP gain. In Hard, your EXP and bonus EXP are cut in half, whereas in Easy mode you can abuse the bonus EXP all you want.
Even at max stats, excluding Luck, the Black Knight can still be lost if you get double Luna'd. So in the end, you still need luck on your side. You could say having NON maxed STR = dead
@lamebrain2468 Nope, Aether cannot be used from range. However, Ike CAN do a critical hit as a ranged attack, which leads to a very weird animation where he does an epic backflip from a distance, causing massive damage. Or a frontflip if the attack isn't fatal. Just like the Black Knight can't Luna you from a distance.
That's very lucky indeed xD
What really surprises me about this video is the number of times the Black Knight misses, which was never more then once, in my case.
That's why I always had Ike maxed before this fight :P
I remember the first time I beat the Black Knight. I read about how hard it was, so I made sure Ike was level 20/20.
It took three turns. I got Aether to activate two times in a row.
@AkasunaNoSasoriSama Can't use Resolve vs the Black Knight, since you get the Resolve scroll on the same chapter as the one you fight him, the best you can do is Adept/Wrath, which means wasting your Adept on Ike only to destroy it later when he gets resolve...
Makes the boss fights easier, but I like to have a more balanced crew, despite the relative easyness of the FE: PoR.
@gorginhanson
Do take note that after a few turns, the BK gets reinforcements that attack Mist AND a physic user to heal him, :P
Though yes, the manly way to do it is without Mist's healing. Ike drinking Gatorade turn after turn waiting for Aether, or dodging like in the video above xD
@whatbear12 I general do you some luck to beat the Black Knight, because not only does he have his own special skill, Luna, which can take away more then half your health, he also eventually gets reinforcements who try to "help" him, including healing him. So, for most people, it's about hoping you'll get Aether.
Also, in this video, Ike is lucky because he dodges 3 consecutive hits at around 70% chance of hitting each, which is pretty lucky.
and btw, if you check the floors, theres panels that offer +10 defense bonuses
(BK and Ike both start on one in RD, so if you don't move, you'll deal ten more dmg and he'll deal 10 less)
@Vyse195 I did some math and if Ike doesnt miss and has max speed (dont remember if BK has elixer or not) you can win just off of normal attacks in all 5 turns
@BlueFire4101 That is what we call, the luck of the draw. I've had Aether-less fights against the Black Knights, and double Lunas (due to me taking a chance that Ike won't die in 2 consecutive attacks).
It's all luck, unless you bring a lulzy setup, which makes your other characters weaker since they'll be privy from some good skills.
A FE9 video before radiant Dawn is even rarer than this.
On my run of Hard Mode, I had kept retrying/using bonus experience/items to get Ike to all maxed stats (excluding Magic). The Black Knight fight was laughably easy for some reason, maybe for the maxed luck, because his hit chance was 60 and Ike's was 100. And this was on hard mode... Makes me think if this isn't too difficult to reenact, especially on Easy Mode, perhaps, if the BK's stats differ between difficulties. I'd assume the hit chance for BK on Easy would be 20-40 with a perfect Ike.
my bad, forgot i used mist while i did up close attacks, not to mentioned stayed in bk's range,as well as taking out the healers with mist and ike
FLAWLESS VICTORY
Yes, Ike must be a lord in order to use the Occult scroll and learn Aether.
There are a total of 4 Occult Scrolls in the game (if my memory serves me)
Did I just found a fossil?
Epic
Also nice video
that explains the screen shake when he fell to one knee.
It took a while. I was waiting for it like where the hell is his aether attack
@gorginhanson that would be nice, but if soldiers and bishops will back up black knight, then ike is at least entitled to one healer. i know black knight tells them to stay out of the fight, but they can still get in the way.
thanks reccomended.
RNG: The Boss
@AkasunaNoSasoriSama Take from GameFAQS: Chapter 17, Part 4. One of the enemies will drop it.
@dandragon01 She's still a mobile healer, unlike Rhys who's basically a glass healer.
My first fight with him, Ike ate a Luna to the face and survived on turn 2, then used Aether right afterwards. He dealt just enough damage after that to take out the Black Knight. It's so satisfying to see the animation of the Black Knight falling.
weres do u live in dublin cause i want to know if tats the gampstop im looking for
The number of times I had to redo the chapter because I failed this fight or mist decided to die.
If only my playthroughs went that smoothly; unfortunately, I was cursed with the black knight proccing luna every engagement!
Yeah, that's what I meant to say. It's been a while since I've played this game, but the point I was making was that you could use some other combo to beat the Black Knight faster. I'm pretty sure it was resolve, but I may be thinking of my FE10 playthrough instead.
They are VERY good. I recommend getting this and Radiant Dawn because they play VERY well.
@gorginhanson
True, but it does make it statistically that much harder, unless you just put Adept on Ike and attack from a distance, which is also lame. Though I like the LAZER beam effects caused by their legendary swords xD
Black Knight with the pun at the beginning
Just beat the game again on hard. Ike had max skill str speed and Def, on the first attack he did aether, on the counter attack of the same round and did aether again and killed him. Turns out if you kill him before the solider come out, they send out generic soliders to tell you they’re gonna trigger the trap. I’m talking soliders, not the promoted halbrediers and shit that come attack mist. The fight was over in 20 secs lmao.
@AbrahamCN True that, but it takes even MORE Luck to DODGE 3 consecutive attacks and finish him off with an Aether that deals exactly 36 damage FTW. Ike knew he'd win, he was just trollin' with him.
this took awhile to do.
I've had ike with max STR, HP, SPD, SKL, and DEF(through lucky levelups and stat-booster items), and I killed BK in 3 turns(2 aethers in a row)
@raccoonboy123 eclipse is only in radiant dawn and only available for black knight. in path of radiance he had luna just like all of the other generals. his attacks were just different.
i love Ike's aether scream in brawl
Hmm, I may buy PoR cuz I liked that when Ike changed classes he actually changed. Like his closed changed considerably, and his sword fighting style actually looked more like his father's. Plus Aether actually served a purpose, in Radiant Dawn he's so ridiculously powerful he doesn't need it.
@GFirenight The problem is, ultimately, that Canto and the extra movement makes Mist better as a healer than Rhys could ever be. While Rhys can deal damage without relying on rare weapons to do it, he's just not as mobile as Mist. If you want people to tear up the battlefield, you have plenty of options for that. You don't need your healers to do it too, and even if they're strong they still are vulnerable to physical attackers...so you need to get them out of the way. Mist does this best.
Nope.
PoR is on the Gamecube
RD is on the Wii
Radiant Dawn's story happens AFTER Path of Radiance, and both games have their differences in the way they deal with bonus EXP and skills.
Black Knight stands for BK
BK = BURGER KING!
Richard Yin
He is a King!
@arias1695 I usually use Mist myself, though she doesn't have a much MAG, she's much more useful then Rhys, who easely dies and doesn't get to ride a horse.
The Black Knight on this one play through I had got rng screwed, he missed his first attack and I did Aether and on my turn I attacked and hit and the Black knight hit and then next turn the Black Knight attacked first and missed again and I did Aether again
Most people seem to not know this but in the second game Ike can use Axe type weapons.
If you equip him with a war hammer before this battle and don't move during the first move some type of advantage happens and he pwns the BK.
@rahulksen
lol, troll. It takes atleast 2 turns (Player phase, Enemy Phase), because you can't double Aether the Black Knight on your turn :P
Yeah, I just named this video this way because I thought it unreal the number of times he dodged the Black Knight, xD
You had it lucky, I had to try multiple times before I ended up killing him on Turn 3.
Time to even the odds
I was thinking they would make the battle against the BK harder in the sequel but it was the opposite. Actually I spent most of the time holding back so I could kill the other enemy units for exp and for the lance you can get in that chapter.
@Maxmagnus20019 i never finished my rom of the game with Roy, so I don't know how he would turn out. it did pay off to put him in the game though. their profit must have shot up after releasing the other games in a country as large as this one. all they need now is to translate more of the old games and/or put them on Virtual Console. even in japanese, people would probably buy them.
3 dodged in a row that is amazing!
at Max SPD, in PoR, you can't double attack the Black Knight without 'Adept', as you gain the skill 'Resolve' in the same chapter as the one you fight the BK on.
Double Aether is however possible before your 2nd move.
Ike attacks BK (Aether)
BK counters.
BK attacks Ike.
Ike counters (Aether).
That's the best you can do though, and you need a little luck, especially if the BK activates Luna.
@Maxmagnus20019 Yeah, Luna is a pain, I can't argue with that. But I swear the Black Knight had higher stats on Hard Mode... I'll have to look into it later. =/ If the Black Knight has, lets say, a 30% chance of activating Luna, then each attack at around 50 hit percentage would have about an 80% chance... so luck is definitely a key factor, that's undeniable. I did manage to beat the BK like this, but I got an Aether right off the bat, in two runs. Still, I have doubts for some reason...
@remixex369 Indeed, on the other hand, the Black Knight can't use Luna from range either.
I got two consecutive Aethers before, but that was because Ike was level 20/20 with maxed Skill and a peaked Biorythm. It actually does something, you know! I didn't know what it did until I checked the internet.
Ike's speed must've been sky high for this. Dang! I hope I can beat him down like that when I get there again.
I don't EVER remember it being This easy....
@Maxmagnus20019
The reinforcements won't attack Ike
The guy with physic doesn't always heal him, I think it's just on hard and maybe normal-
Anyways that's not the point- at the VERY least, the Black knight doesn't want any help- he even SAYS it right as soon as those guys show up- so that means that you shouldnt use any either- its just the right way to do it
I was thinking more along the lines of Boyd.
With every skill.
HAMMERTIME.
Yeah, _I wish_ indeed. I maxed out Ike in the chapter before, just barely...
Imagine they had put Radiant Dawn's version of Ike in Brawl AKA G.I. Joe with a sword O_O
It´s great!! For me one of the best games 4 wii! The story gets deeper, u can use characters that u couldn´t use in PoR and it´s simply awesome!! I really recomend it if you like the series
Use the Wrath+Resolve build. You get wrath early on and just put it on Ike. It gives you a +50% chance of scoring a crit which is awesome. If you're scared of Luna, just put Nihil on Ike as a placeholder for Resolve and let him hit you below half health so Wrath will activate. You should down him in 2 turns
True, you do get Resolve on that chapter so you can't use the wrath+resolve in that fight, but you can use Nihil instead to get around being hit by Luna. But that only works if your comfortable letting the Black Knight knock you around a little before you are able to do any real damage
The4gotton1 If you equip Nihil to Ike, then you cant use Aether or the Adept+Wrath combo, making the fight impossible to win because 1. Alondite negates non-wrath crits and 2. Skill capacity limits. The best option is probably Aether, though Adept+Wrath works alright..you just have to hope that Adept even activates (same chance as Aether) and that 50% bonus wrath gives you activates, basically a heads or tails situation haha
zephiel123 I beat the Black Knight with Nihil and Wrath before the reinforcements even showed up. You just have to get those 50% chance crits to hit. That's all there is to it. And don't heal Ike constantly unless he'll die with one blow to allow more chances for a wrath crit
The4gotton1 Can Wrath be used with Nihil ? I havent played in awhile so i dont remember the skill costs. I know Nihil costs 20, meaning Wrath would have to cost 5. If thats the case, thats pretty broken. In fact, i think Aether+Wrath would be an even better combo.
Nihil costs 10 just like Wrath does. But that's only in Path of Radiance, whereas Nihil costs 20 in Radiant Dawn. Aether costs 20 and Ike's capacity is 25
can someone tell me the conditions of bk activating luna plz
I almost killed him w/ full hp when he had 13 but then nasir came :C so i restarted the game again
I beat him fairly quickly on my 3rd play through, if it wast for most of his stats already being maxed out minus his magic, luck and something else I probably would've got owned, not to mention aether saved my ass big time. Celebrated by drinking some sake that I bought that night.
When I first played this, It was a struggle until Ike got Aether on the finaly turn
It's only a flesh wound!
Heh... It's just a flesh wound..
@Maxmagnus20019
Ya well, I'll admit I've used elixirs- but that damn black knight heals too-
Anyhow, even with a fully maxed Ike- (and yes I've done it- every stat except resistance and magic- they get up to FORTY luck dude its insane)
it's still a statistical gamble- but HEY- no one said this would or especially should be easy
Pretty good.
