Thanks for the video 😊 I've been struggling with some knee pain due to inflamation on the tendons. And as it has taken some months to develop, it also takes months to recover. My doctor says to just go with what feels good, but relieve seems to be most important part with taking the inflammation off. Well, tbh it has come to quite a fortunate time since the pandemic does not allow me to play anyways. But lesson learned after this. Especially if you have not played badminton for your whole life, taking too much load is not a good strategy and foam rolling and stretching are one of the most neglected parts of improving your game. Since better recovery -> less stress on your joints -> more time you can play without worrying about injuries 💪
I do think the Shoulder part is missing some really important information here. Instead of saying; do shoulder strengtening exercises" you should tell them to avoid doing weird cross swings over their head (to make up for a lacking backhand) and to WARM UP properly. THat means making circles with your arms spread out wide, 10 forwards and 10 backwards. Do shoulder rotations every day to keep them warm and make sure to use proper technique especially when smashing or clearing. That means full swing towards the lower body (cross) and then making sure you dont stop mid-way in your swings. I've played professionally for a couple of years and my shoulder was the issue that forced (yes forced) me to quit. It was completely torn and destroyed. Now, 10 years later, I can enjoy 1 night a week of pain free badminton but if I push it too hard and get too reckless, I feel it instantly.
Reading your comment tears are rolling from my eyes I have been playing from a year and facing this shoulder injury I need some guidance Please someone help me😭
Great video. Love it. I have occasional/regular Bursitis in my shoulder. Things I have been doing are, losing weight, strengthening shoulders, and improving overall fitness and strength to prevent/reduce hits in awkward positions. Thought I do understand Bursitis can also be caused by overuse/ageing or sudden increase in intensity of your regular play.
There has been no Badminton at the club where I play in N Ireland for weeks. Play may resume on the 14th December. This video certainly is timely. Thanks.
I'm literally wearing a brace on my knee rn because of a badminton fall yesterday. Man it was the worst pain of my life. I'm going to be studying badminton moves and what I did wrong through my recovery
Hey stranger not sure how's your injury right now. Hopefully you've recovered. I've been playing for years and last week was my worst injury I've ever encountered. I basically tore my left knee's ligament while trying to hit a shuttle back, and now I'm just resting and now I don't know how long it'll take to recover and to start walking normal again, let alone play 😢😢
@@lesterjong hi stranger. It turns out, I tore my acl and meniscus then. I got surgery and I'm about 4 months post surgery. It can take up to 2 years to get fully back to normal with or without surgery. Just be patient and everything will be okay. Sometimes I really wish I could run again, or play badminton again, but I can't speed up recovery too much. It's a long process but it'll be alright 😸
@@lozl5876 dayummm....that doesn't sound good at all. Are you back to walking "normally" now post-op? I hope I can recover asap, at least back to walking normally. I have got the fat pat issue too :( Been playing badminton for more than 10 years but the problem only started early this year when after each play I feel pain underneath the front of my right kneecap - sometimes even struggled with walking. Been doing some more quads, glutes, hamstrings strengthening exercises during lockdowns. Really hope it will recover soon.
Not a nice one! ☹️ Unfortunately our GB physio recommended to me that rest is the best treatment as the 'fat pad' protects your knee, so it will take time to reduce the inflammation. Rest and then icing regularly! Hope you get better soon 🙏🏼
@@BadmintonInsight Thanks so much for your reply, Greg/ Jenny. Really appreciated :p When I was volunteering at Birmingham YAE in March I had a quick chat and 'test' session with one of the physio's supporting Chinese Team - that's my first time I heard of 'fat pad' and it was his advice for me to do strengthening and flexibility exercises around quads, glutes and hamstrings. I got the similar advice from my GP two months ago. Actually I have been doing some at-home simple ones like wall sit, calf raises, etc. for many years. Since lockdown I have been doing some more trying to balance up front/ back legs.
Nice video !! When I was younger I played a lot of basketball, American football, soccer and ice hockey, I rolled my ankle all of the time playing those sports and I hurt my knee playing soccer. I have had no Injuries playing badminton, which is another reason why I love the sport. I think if you have a balanced weight training session along with reasonable form most people ( outside of pros ) should be able to play badminton for many many years without a serious injury. What I personally do is try to counter what badminton does to my body and use a balanced weight program to do that. Badminton like most sports is a very quad dominant sport. So Making sure that you strengthen your hamstrings and glutes are very important. Also because of how a swing works , I think it’s important to do a good amount of back work , especially upper back work and rear delt work. Although these exercises may not make you improve you game they probably will allow you to play a lot longer and harder with a less chance of getting injured
I have acl injury and meniscus, completely tear last 3 years when playing badminton. After a year of operation, now back to the court. Need to slowly progress.

I've had a few near misses. I ran to the back line of the rear court. I called "out". The player on the court behind me had let go of his racquet. Racquet flew over his court's net, over his opponent's head, & the racquet landed behind me. Eye injuries are life changing so I rather show good sportsmanship than win a game. I don't see enough sports education about eye injuries. I wear sport goggles. Most people believe impact resistant eyewear is not necessary for sports; even after recovering from temporary vision loss. Example: turning around to see partner thus getting hit by a racquet or a shuttlecock. Seen too many accidents & some people playing recklessly without care for their opponent. Intentionally, aiming for opponent's face. (I don't understand that.) Eye injuries are life changing. Few people refuse to acknowledge I must wear glasses to see. 🤦♂️People get mad I refuse to switch to contacts & not wear my goggles. It is somehow unfair my eyes are protected & his is not. 🤦♂️He says he will hit me in the eye all he wants. Also I should start the match at minus 10 and not be permitted to hit smashes into his side of the court. When "threats" are made I calmly walk away & report to the front desk. Usually they get more mad because I refuse to play any more future matches against them.

Hello guys, thanks again for your awesome videos. My wife enjoys playing badminton. But I am bit worried about her play. Hmmm great question! The main differences between the mens & women's game is that the mens is generally played at a higher pace (with fast/flat exchanges) whereas the women's game involves more clears and drops. This means that your wife should focus more on her endurance, especially if she is just getting back into playing. Hi, just a quick question to the "Skin on Skin" blisters tabs. Do you usually apply them on during matches and training, or at home, as a recovery method? 😭
I used to play a lot when I was young and didn't play much for several years. I just started to play now and I am having paing on the outer edge of my lower leg front bone (both legs). I've said several times now, if I get injured so badly that I could never play again, I'll commit suicide! Really big thanks for this video, you are literally saving a life with it!!!
My most regular issue, and this didn't really affect me until I hit my 40s, was foot calluses. Very hard to resolve as, even after treatment, they just keep recurring and are horrible to play with.
Ankle mobility and strengthening is really important. You dont want to be super peak with your performance and ended up twisting your ankle.. such a joykiller
I had a tournament in my school and while I was playing my shoulder suddenly started paining just after a shot And the pain was too much I can't even hold by racquet and I have to gave up And after somedays the pain had gone and after 6 months I was playing badminton And suddenly the same thing again happened and after 3 or 4 days ita got away Now what to do means how to prevent this happening again in future

I think you've missed wrist injury because I'm currently suffering from it for a week now. And it's taking longer time to heal than I expected. Really frustrating cos I can't wait to get back on the court.
It pains in my biceps when I play hard hits. It just feels like my muscles are torn apart from inside. Because of it I can't even play for weeks. Its really painful man!!! I guess its because of my wrong way of hitting the shots. If anyone have any suggestions plzz share🌸
@@abhinavbora7268 Yeah brother I'm in good health now.😊 I just had to take complete rest for couple of weeks for a full recovery. And if you are having the same problem as me so I can assume that you are also a hard hitter just like me. So I would suggest you to improve your stance and smashing techniques coz I also had a lot of errors in my technique which I later got to know from my seniors. After correcting them I have improved a lot in my game and I feel much comfortable while playing. So wishing you Best of Luck Brother!👍🏻 Hoping for your early recovery. Take care bro!😇🤗
Try loosening off the muscles around your peck & shoulder. And also this means your using your bicep too much in your smash, rather than the back of your shoulder- so try thinking about this in your technique 👍🏼
I want to ask a question 🙋 What happens when a partner gets injured in mens double? Can we change the player to let the game on Or the opponent gets the game as the player is not able to play
@@BadmintonInsight yes , already two week in rest 😥 i don't know how can i able to play badminton again .. i want to go in court , its calling me badly
One way to improve your power is to work on your shoulder strengthening. If smashing is hurting your arm, that often means that your shoulder is weak and your arm is being used too much to try and generate some power. Here is a video we made on shoulder strengthening which can be great for improving your power 💪🏼 czcams.com/video/avLKEV7xOjM/video.html

My most regular issue, and this didn't really affect me until I hit my 40s, was foot calluses. Very hard to resolve as, even after treatment, they just keep recurring and are horrible to play with.
put fresh garlic on them.....fast and drink apple coder vinegar....this cures u
Great Video!
Thank you so much!
I have ever gotten a ankle a elbow and a shoulder injuryy, the pain 💔💔
Oh no, hope you get better soon!
I suffer shoulder injury ... I smashed in bedminton that time shoulder are pain extremely ...then so that's why I can't smashed in bedminton
Ankle mobility and strengthening is really important.
You dont want to be super peak with your performance and ended up twisting your ankle.. such a joykiller
Great video guys, doesn't the top end shoes have anti ankle roll?
Don't tell me marin screams non stop in the documentary 🤪
I am nursing a meniscus tear currently!!
Get well soon! Wishing you all the best, Greg and Jenny
What about the wrist my wrist have been hurting for a week now from badminton :(
I had a tournament in my school and while I was playing my shoulder suddenly started paining just after a shot
And the pain was too much I can't even hold by racquet and I have to gave up
And after somedays the pain had gone and after 6 months I was playing badminton
And suddenly the same thing again happened and after 3 or 4 days ita got away
Now what to do means how to prevent this happening again in future
Sorry to hear that! We’re no experts but maybe watch our shoulder strengthening video and also consult a doctor or physio?
best one play badmington once every 4 yrs rest of time rest up and watch badmington on you tube...when u getting excited remember naughty shoulder and wait until 4 yrs time then play 1 match for 45 min then wait 4 mire years hope this helps
Lot of time I suffered from ankle injury 🤕🤕
Try the exercises out that we showed in the video, and you should maybe think about investing in an ankle brace / strap! Good luck!
Myshoulder getting pain
I think you've missed wrist injury because I'm currently suffering from it for a week now. And it's taking longer time to heal than I expected. Really frustrating cos I can't wait to get back on the court.
From our experience, wrist injuries aren't that common so we didn't include it in the video.. But wishing you a speedy recovery 🤞🏼
Hey I’m facing shin splints any solutions
It pains in my biceps when I play hard hits. It just feels like my muscles are torn apart from inside. Because of it I can't even play for weeks. Its really painful man!!! I guess its because of my wrong way of hitting the shots. If anyone have any suggestions plzz share🌸
Ah no! ☹️ Your muscles around the joint / shoulder might be too tight, so try and loosen off other areas too! Rest might also be necessary too!
@@BadmintonInsight Oky! Thank u so much for the advice. I'll definitely follow through🥰💗
@@bhaskarmondal5038 any recovery happened brother cuz i am facing the same issue nowadays.?
Please do a video on how to recover from injuries....please........
Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you
Watching this after leg twist😭
I have also face some of these problems 😰
Hopefully some of our tips can help prevent them in the future! 🙏🏼
My elbow hurts after backhand shots. I think it is due to hyper extension of the elbow. What should i do?
Rear-court backhand?
@@BadmintonInsight yes mostly. Sometimes after backhand killing
Seen quite a few ruptured Achilles tendons in my time playing badminton!
Yes they can be very nasty!
It's not so much the seeing that bothers me, it's the hearing - like a rifle shot 🤢
Hi. I smash as hard as I can and I get pain in my bicep area which lasts for the rest of the day. Can you gimme any tips.
Try loosening off the muscles around your peck & shoulder. And also this means your using your bicep too much in your smash, rather than the back of your shoulder- so try thinking about this in your technique 👍🏼
Yesterday,I also had same injury can someone please suggest me how to cure it.i can able to walk but not able to play still feeling pain.
We would recommend going to see a doctor or physio :)
I want to ask a question 🙋
What happens when a partner gets injured in mens double?
Can we change the player to let the game on Or the opponent gets the game as the player is not able to play
It is a walk-over due to injury. There are no substitutions in badminton.
@@TheHi-T ooo!! thank you...
My arm got fractured from smashing and falling down
I have shoulder dislocation 😥😥 .. while performing smash

mentally injured, how do prevent them ?
What about back pain?
Probably number 6 😂 We have both had back pain in the past - but this injury requires lots of stretching!!!
I can’t able to generate power boss...when I generate power it’s hard in my arm what will I do plzzz help me ...🙏🙏
One way to improve your power is to work on your shoulder strengthening. If smashing is hurting your arm, that often means that your shoulder is weak and your arm is being used too much to try and generate some power.
Here is a video we made on shoulder strengthening which can be great for improving your power 💪🏼 czcams.com/video/avLKEV7xOjM/video.html
@@BadmintonInsight its an injury I think 😕😕😕i can smash perfectly and generate more power before that arm injury...btw thanks for that video✌️✌️
What was that fight about
We're not sure! They played together both before and after this incident!
Scary thing to happen. I've seen paul george clip. It looks like carolina marin is the same as paul george.
3:25
But not severe as paul george.
Yes not as severe as Paul George, but still scary! 😫
wonder if back injuries are common
I suffer from stiff fingers (trigger finger) by badminton
Oh no, sorry to hear that!
what could I have been doing wrong????
+1 Carolina Marin @ Paris'24
Pls suggest me shin pain
We would advise going to see a medical professional or doctor :)
@@BadmintonInsight thk u very very much
Lower back pain🙂
i have the chance to not be fragile at any part of my body so even if i don't properly do a warm up, i'm never injured. but i'm not a good exemple xD
You're very lucky! We would still recommend warming up as you may get old one day and become more fragile!
I am afraid from injuries, will i stop Bedminton….
No
in life we have alot of issues, don’t be afraid. In the end we have to die, so be relax.
My heel always hurts after badmenton 😭😭
Anyone want a vid on lower back injury?
😂👏🏼
My doubles partner accidentally hit me in the back of the head with her racket haha. I’ve also been hit with a birdie really close to the eye
Oh gosh, hope you’re okay!
