    Thanks for the comparison video! I'm currently using the STI shift knob (~270 g) and I love it. I think it hits the sweet spot for the reasons you mentioned.

      @@rcuriel47 right on target with the STi -- glad you're enjoying it 🤙. STi at ~270g and the GR at ~250g says something about the OEM's preferences 🍻

    Highly appreciate your feedback. Shame it’s personal thing, so I’d have to buy from both spectrum to decide which one I prefer 😅

      lol I can relate -- the wife isn't exactly pleased I have a shift knob collection on the dining table 😎🤙. What weight are you leaning towards??

  • @Chopped86
    @Chopped86 Před 19 dny +1

    I had a 325 gram knob in my 86 and I thought it was absolutely perfect. I understand liking the notchy feel of the 199 grams but the transmission didn’t feel good enough to me to enjoy that. Interestingly, I am running 500 grams on the STI and I happen to think it’s perfect.

    • @KonkrRoads
      @KonkrRoads  Před 17 dny

      Good data -- it shows there's certainly an individual preference on shift knobs weight and feel. How do you like the STi vs the 86?

    • @Chopped86
      @Chopped86 Před 15 dny +1

      @@KonkrRoads they are worlds apart and are enjoyed completely differently. The 86 was supercharged and I certainly prefer supercharged power over turbo power. 86 couldn’t fit my kids though and my STI has all the space in the world. The STI transmission is the real gem though. Way more satisfying shift than an 86. It’s so tactile that I feel the feel of a 325 gram knob on the 86 is just about the same feeling as the 500 on the STI. The STI is also the obvious choice for when the snow comes down as well. If I could pick one, I’d have the 86. If I had to own one in real life with kids, the STI makes more sense. I miss the 50% better mpg of the 86 for sure.

      @@Chopped86 solid logic on going with the STi and glad to hear it's working out well. It's surpring to hear you like the STi transmission better than the 86's -- It's been a few years since I've slammed some gears in an STi so I'll have to give it another go to get a feel.

    Got a Raceseng Slammer @635g for my 86 and then when I got my WRX stuck with that. Love the feel and weight of it. The WRX doesn't shift near as nice as the 86/BRZ and that Lexus 6-speed but the Slammer + Motul fluids certainly helped the WRX feel better.

    Hi ya Mike - thank you for this video - I am expecting delivery on a BRZ tS in the next couple weeks and was thinking about changing the knob. After seeing this video, I have decided to keep the OEM knob that is coming with the car. It looks like it will fit my needs very nicely. This video DID help regardless of the 'hater' comments below. Thanks again! Stay safe and healthy!

      @@KonkrRoads Actually, YES - not long after I am allowed to drive the tS, I intend to completely replace the exhaust system. Corsa Sport 2.5 in Cat-Back 4.5 in Single Tips - HKS Equal Length Catted Headers - Invidia Overpipe - Invidia Front Pipe - at least that is what I have planned for now. I had quadruple by-pass surgery on 2 Aug and am forbidden to drive a manual until October - lol. I have a friend that will drive the car from the dealership to my house until I can get to the Subbie shop. I am also looking into a couple engine enhancements/replacements that won't break my warranty.

      @KonkrRoads  Před 24 dny

      @@bruceobrown534 hey Bruce, congrats on getting through the surgery! Loving the exhaust plan; that should get the car rowdy. Careful though on the header -- often engine warranty is compromised when you go aftermarket on this bit. Best to check with your dealer 🤙

      @bruceobrown534 Před 24 dny

      @@KonkrRoads The Subbie shop has volunteered/suggested that they would be willing to swap back the original header just for the services and warranty aspects. BUT I do intend to ask the dealerships - there are 2 of them the one where I am buying the car and the one where I will have it serviced - about the header/warranty issue. The tS will be the 10th Subbie I have owned, and I have a 23 Legacy Touring XT that will still be with me for 'bad' day driving. THAT one I will be 'allowed' to drive in a couple weeks - lol.

    I've had 2 heavy aftermarket shift knobs on 2 different cars (a 2009 2L NA lancer and a 370Z), no stock vs aftermarket weights sorry but they were brushed stainless so way on the heavy side I guess.
    I loved it on the lancer and found it didn't make much difference on the 370Z. I think it depends on the car (gearbox/throw/shiftknob combined)
    I've got a GT86 now and have been curious but also I'm not a big fan aesthetically of all the ones people usually mention, where did all the brushed metal ones go :(
    Guess based on your video I probably wouldn't want to go too heavy though

    • @KonkrRoads
      @KonkrRoads  Před měsícem +1

      You're absolutely right on the gearbox itself making a big impact on feel. For me the 86/BRZ is best balanced in the 200-300g range, but I do like things on the notchy side. Have you seen this knob?

      It took a few weeks to arrive. Quality was worth the wait. You'll also need a M12x1.25 2" extension to fit this:
