    Hi Katarina, thank you for taking the time to post this video! My wife plan on relocating to Hollywood possibly West Ashley area in a couple of years with our little son. What are your thoughts on the schools in the area? Thanks!

      Hi Chris, thanks for watching! That's exciting :) As a real estate agent I am actually not allowed to talk about schools or crime, but I recommend schooldigger.com and greatschools.org. They have quite a lot of info and can help figure out what school options are right for you, as we have public and private schools nearby. Sorry I can't help more with that, but hope that's a start!

    Charlestowne Landing has that small zoo. Back in the day when it was built that was the design of Jim Fowler from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. It was the 1st "Natural environment" type zoo. Prior to it zoos were concrete and cages, but Jim had this crazy idea of being able to view animals in their natural environment. It set the stage that almost all zoos have now become. WA has that older look because it hasn't had it's population explosion like MtP, don't worry it will and you'll watch all those pros you listed get torn down.. If you want to see something cool take a boat up the Ashley about when you get to the trestle you'll see a line dividing the water where it turns from salt to brackish another couple hundred feet you'll see another line where the water turns from brackish to fresh. It's so cool to see 3 distinctly different colors of water separating themselves

      Yes! I love the small zoo with the natural habitats. Thanks for sharing the history behind that. I've always boycotted zoos because I hate the idea of wild animals being put into concrete and cages. But places that rescue animals and allow them to be in bigger, more natural habitats I can do! We love going to Charlestowne Landing - saw a big gator there one time too. And yeah I'm sure West Ashley will become that way but I hope it keeps some of its character. And wow that sounds really cool. I'll have to get a friend with a boat to take us to see that! We live near West Ashley park where the Ashley River comes in and meets freshwater. My husband has caught flounder, bass, and redfish all in the same spot!

    A very positive overview with lots of good information for newcomers, but the terrible traffic anywhere in Charleston should be emphasized much more. In rush hour you are 1h++ away from Downtown. I really disapprove when realtors exaggerate an area. I live in West Ashley and commute every day. To make it in 25min you must go to work 1h before and return 1h after everybody else. To get Downtown in the advertised 5min you cannot live beyond Moreland. Most West Ashleyans live outside the I526 where most residential areas are and commutes take 45min-1.5h. A West Ashleyan that moves to any city with well designed public transportation saves about 5-10h driving time = live time a week. That being said, West Ashley is not worse than other areas, but realtors should really be honest and stop claiming that you are quickly anywhere in Charleston. You will spend about 1.5h in traffic each day in Charleston, you will be equally quick by bicycle, and can add another 30min-1h when you use the not schedule optimized very few buses we have.

      Thanks for your feedback. I do mention the traffic as a con for West Ashley and other areas of Charleston, but I’ll try to be more realistic about traffic times.

    I’m curious to find out if the landfill outside of 26 has an effect on the quality of life (bad odor) of some of the communities that are close by.

    • @KatarinaWestRE
      @KatarinaWestRE  Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      I haven’t heard of complaints of an odor and haven’t smelled it while in those neighborhoods surprisingly, but residents have had issues with birds picking up trash out of the landfill and dropping it in their neighborhoods nearby. Like chicken bones and wrappers and other gross things would be falling from the sky. The landfill is supposed to be working on that litter problem, along with wastewater issues, so hopefully it’s fixable. But you can see the birds circling the landfill while in certain neighborhoods and that was enough for one of my buyers to not want to buy there!
