Snow and charming do not know the first rule about the underworld in Greek myth? 1st rule of the underworld DO NOT EAT THE FOOD FROM THE UNDERWORLD unless you want to get stuck there or bound to it. 2ed rule of the underworld DON’T ACCEPT FOOD FROM DEAD, HADES and Company , it is always a trick or test to again keep you in the underworld. I am genuinely surprised that the writers did not write that knowledge in there. No wonder they are considered regulars in hell.
another reason why I was annoyed they never brought in persephone - she'd be a great twist in the Zelena-Hades storyline, the old 'he's married' storyline, I know, been done before, but it'd definitely be an original spin on the 'he' in love with her but won't leave his wife'
