  • In this video, I'll be showing all the steps that I take to photograph the Sun, as well as show how to take proper flat frames for a full disk image and an up-close feature image. The Sun is a G-type main sequence star at the center of our solar system, at a distance of 93 million miles away from Earth.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to produce your videos. You are a natural educator my friend.
    I’ve been considering the Lunt 50mm but came across a PST 40mm that was to good of a deal to not grab.
    Best regards!

      The Solarchat imaging forum might interest you. Valery and Oleg (Ukraine) were both posting images from their custom solar scopes - large achromat OTAs using Baader D-ERF filters - with the PST etalon. Cheers

      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před rokem +1

      For the Sun, apart from Hydrogen Alpha, you can image it in different wavelengths which highlight different layers and regions. So there's always something new to discover for that single target! I plan to do a video talking about the different wavelengths soon.

    Excellent video Kwasi. How did you align your telescope on the sun? I’m guessing one star alignment or the shadow method. Thank you so much for your expertise

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks Craig! Since it's during the day, I just do a rough polar alignment for my mount and it works well. Since I shoot in the same park, I know roughly where North is, so I just point my mount there. Short video clips are being recorded as opposed to taking long exposures, so an accurate polar alignment is not necessarily required. Although having an accurate alignment does help if you have your telescope mount in a permanent location if it's available to you.

    Very cool! I'm finally getting my Lunt 40 on Monday after waiting almost 4 months.
    The Lunt LS80mt is an awesome telescope. Are you double stacking? Or any plans to?

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před rokem

      I'm currently running a single stack, but I'll look into a double stack later on, as it can get a bit pricey. I hope you have fun with your incoming Lunt 40!

  • @SleepySteve79

    In addition to the 8 minutes it takes for the photons to escape the surface of the sun and hit our eyes, that is a average time cause the big planets pull on the sun as the sun pulls on them creating a flower pattern while we go around it. And it can take up to 100.000 years for the photon to be created untill it reaches the surface of the sun and escape.

    Great video! I was wondering how Lunt gets the etalon to have such a nice narrow band pass at the relatively fast f7 speed? Quark needs f/24+for that. Is yours a double etalon? Thanks!

    • @ColeRees
      @ColeRees Před rokem

      Although I don’t have the pressure-tuned version, I can speak for the tilt-tuned Lunt. The bandpass with a single etalon will still pick up these details. However, double-stacking etalons will increase the contrast of these details. I can’t tell if his system is double-stacked, as they probably re-engineered the system for how the second etalon gets tuned, but for the tilt-tune I can say that it is a physical attachment that you can see on the front of the scope that protrudes around 5 cm off the front. When I tune mine I remove the front etalon, tune the main one, then replace the front etalon and tune it.

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před rokem

      Thanks Geoffrey! My scope is a single stacked etalon that's pressure tuned. As Cole also mentioned, I have the option of double stacking for a contrast boost, but I'll probably look into it later since it's pretty pricey. I plan to create a review video on this scope to add to the "My Telescope Family" playlist, so I'll go more in-depth on the features there.

  • @printrun5

    Btw how is done a “polar alignment “ on the sun? Or what needs to be done for proper sun tracking?

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před 5 měsíci

      If you have a permanent mounting site, then you don't have to worry about polar alignment. If not, then pointing the mount roughly towards the celestial pole should work just fine. For solar astrophotography, short videos are being recorded so a rough polar alignment shouldn't affect it.

  • @DenisineD2
    @DenisineD2 Před 4 měsíci

    I bought the LS152THa with the double stack. Without the stack, everything look even...but when i add the double stack, that's when i have the ''uneven light'' effect on its surface. Do you have the double stack on your Lunt 80 mm? If yes, do you have the same problem?

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před 4 měsíci

      Right now at the time I'm writing this, I'm using a single stack etalon for my LS80MT. Taking flat frames as I demonstrated in this video should help to fix the uneven light that you're experiencing.

  • @printrun5

    Do you use any field flattener on your refractor?

    • @AstroParkAstrophotography
      @AstroParkAstrophotography  Před 5 měsíci

      Field flatteners are not required for solar system imaging (Sun, Moon, and planets). However, I do use them for deep space imaging.
