I wanted to give whoever is reading this a heads up. I’ve been publishing KDP books on Amazon and have had some success.
I recently found my books, as well as other books, being sold on TikTok Shops with the price marked up higher. I’m pretty sure what they are doing is buying the books on Amazon, which is cheaper, and then reselling them on TikTok shops at a higher price.
Because of this, I will no longer be selling any books on Amazon and have unpublished my books, which broke my heart.
I think you should do a video about this and let other authors know what’s going on with TikTok shops. This is a major problem and I don’t think a lot of authors are aware. Thank you.
Hey there Denise! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sooo as far as other people selling your books on Tiktok shops theres two ways to look at it: 1. They have to purchase the books first from Amazon from you before they can sell them. 2: You can do the same thing and charge more for selling them directly from your Tiktok shop. Its ultimately up to you what you decide to do but I just wanted to point this out. Ive had this happen to me so I understand and this is one of the things that could happen when you post books for sale on Amazon. Just an FYI
Wouldn't it make sense to keep your books on Amazon? If I'm not mistaken, you are still making the same amount of profit right? And you are probably selling more books because of the added marketing that the TikTok shops are doing for you (which you don't have to pay for).
If I were you I would add some type of small branding to your books (such as your website URL) so that regardless of where people buy your books, whether directly on Amazon or from a TikTok shop, that they have a way to see that you created the book. They can then visit your website for future purchases. I think a lot of people like supporting the creators of the items that they buy.
You could also reach out directly to the TikTok creators who are selling your books and collaborate with them for added exposure of your books.
It would really be a shame to remove your books from Amazon because I'm sure you have put in a ton of time and effort into making them a success!
@@melissadavies8516 I know you mean well but I barely make a profit from selling the KDP books. I have to price them competitively or they won’t sell at all and also the only reason they are selling is because of me putting in money for advertising which eats up a lot of my profit. The people who sell my books and other peoples books run the scam of buying the book on Amazon cause it’s cheaper they post it on their TikTok shop like they created it and copy and paste all the description from me the author so it looks like they wrote it. I’m sorry but I will not let someone profit off of my hard word especially if I’m just barely breaking even while they enjoy the spoils of my hard word. It’s like if someone bought a Taylor Swift merchandise and then jacked up the price and sold it in their shop. Do you seriously think her lawyers are not going to go after them? They are because it’s wrong. Unfortunately I don’t have Taylor Swift money so I have to protect myself the only way I can. And also, them stealing my books has not helped me financially.
And me putting a brand on the book is not going to stop them. They are going to do it anyway because they are crooks. They’ve done this to a lot of other authors too which is horrible.
