P.S. I'm editing a smart home tour I filmed a few months ago in Seattle. Excited for you to see it soon!
I like the idea of the "sidekick" spinning mop shown at 4:45 in the video to get really close to the edge. At the same time, I keep wondering whether the size of that thing might be limiting before it gets filled up and is ineffective - especially say if I have really long run along a straight wall 55-60ft long and then turn 90 degrees for another straight wall around 30 ft long? And this is even before it moves to going back/forth on the main open floor with the main mop / vacuum.
As always, keep up the great work. 👍
5:05 I think you mean 20 mm at most. 20 cm is about 7.8 inches, I don't even think the device itself is that high.
Hi Reed, I just bought this model after watching your review and also because you said it supports Matter. I can't find any information about Matter on the Roborock website or in the app, thoughts? @smarthomesolver
At 5:00 I think your talking about milimeters not centimeters. 5cm are a lot and 20cm is higher than the Roborock itself 😅
Yes you are completely right, I meant to say millimeters! Sometimes the wrong word just comes out 🤣
Americans don't know centimeters :)
@@chefo5443that's because they can't let go of their stone age measuring system.
Came here to say this too.
For real, this got me. 5cm would have been amazing already!
I'm american and I'm pro metro. :)
The mop lifts 20cm? Twice the height of the vacuum itself? That's a clever trick.
Haha yeah I said cm instead of mm.
@@SmartHomeSolver Americans...😉😜🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Especially our 1-year-old who came preprogrammed to throw things on the ground." I laughed so hard 😂😂😂. Man, how I can relate to that at the moment 😉.
Thank you for that joke, Reed!
Wow the dock that connects to the water lines is awesome! The max7 v I have to fill the tanks every 3 days or less so I end up not filling it. Thanks for the video. Even though your sponsored for the video I know it's an honest review I have 577 hours of cleaning time with 337k sqft my 4yo regularly gets it stuck with papers or something stupid.
Reed, your videos are just so much fun to watch! Wishing you the best my friend😀.
Thank you so much! That makes my day!
Even if you don’t get sponsored, it will sell for itself. Insane especially with matter support
Awesome video Reed! I can’t wait to get my hands on the self emptying, self filling unit.
Damn! I just bought the previous version a couple of months ago. Very impressive.
I am SO hyped to try this out!! Time to upgrade from my Dreame!
I recommend you watch the review from Rob at The Hookup before you do 😊
I love that this is a million times more useful than the Amazon Astro robot.
As an owner of 4 robot vacuums (2 Roomba, 1 Ecovac, 1 Roborock S8 Ultra), and 2 golden retrievers. My Roborock is second to none… well worth the high price tag. Another great review Reed!
what is the durability on these things ? especially owner with a dog ?
@@sullfolife All the robots I have are pretty good in terms of durability except my roomba j7+ combo (the mop is a joke). The biggest difference between all mine is that the Roborock has the best design and engineering, but more importantly it has the best app/software with no bugs to speak of.
@@lackr0073 What was your experience with your ecovac. My experience has been absolutely terrible. The software is just junk and my map has been lost countless times. It won't even find my map anymore even though I can see it on the app. I gave up on it. I thought Ecovac (deebot) and roborock were the same company so I steered clear of roborock but based off the comments and the this video it seems it is a better product.
Which ecovacs do/did you have?! Have a X2 Omni and starting to get frustrated with it?! Debating to jump to Roborock
@@scottywrx2138 ecovac deebot t8 aivi, it’s a great vacuum, the app is what stinks… roborock are just on another level.
Thanks so much for this fantastic review! I'm impressed, and I'll take advantage of the trade-in and upgrade. I have the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra vacuum, Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Self-Empty XL, and the Shark - AI Ultra Robot Vacuum RV2502AE, as much as I love my Shark Robots. The Roborock is miles ahead of them. The Shark in my basement is okay; it still gets stuck occasionally in the areas where my Roborock has no issues. However, the Shock RV2502AE, which is on the main floor, cannot keep up with the hair of our German Shepherd. The Roborock does not have any issues and keeps our floors spotless.
7:50 finally the time has come!!! That's the one I'll be getting. Been waiting dor the switchbot S10 but looks like it'll never come through. This roborock vacuum has it all!
Problem is Roborock customer support is absolutely horrible from overseas. I wouldn’t buy anything from them again. Mine continues scratch against my walls in my brand new house and they basically wouldn’t help solve the problem whatsoever. Straight to the trash is where I put my Ultra 7
This thing is so cool!
I really appreciate the review from the perspective of someone with kids. Gonna order this bad boy today but I need to check if it can go over small obstacles (the frame under our dining chairs).
5:08 20 centimeters 😮. I think you meant 5 and 20 millimeters. Great video.
This one looks pretty impressive!! We love roborock
The trade in option is excellent! I’m definitely upgrading from my S7 MaxV Ultra. $800 is close to what I’d get on eBay selling it but without the risk
Same, excited to take advantage of the trade in.
Thanks for sharing this review!!🥰It's finally here! Can't wait to get our hands on the new S8Max V Ultra🥳
Great video, my brother got one too for review but he has been on vacation. Could not wait to see an actual video from somebody using it.
From what I’ve seen, I have the S7 ultramax v and they say up to $800?
Not sure what the up to means maybe condition or does it completely work with no problems?
How is the side mop on quarter round? Does it ride up onto the quarter round or does it remain flat?
Very impressive indeed, but Dreame X40 Ultra is better for sure. It can do everything this one can plus X40 can mop under low furniture and mop corners. It can lift the mop or leave them at the dock by itself which is good if you have a thicker carpet. The X40 dock can clean itself, unlike this one's dock.
Strongly recommend against anything Dreame at the moment. The vacuum performs well (mostly) but their support/repair/warranty infrastructure is basically non-existent. If you want after purchase support, steer away from Dreame.
Thanks Reed.
@ChronometerCheck Hey, do you think you could review or take a look at the “Magnus Bayer XM”? I’m interested in it, but I can’t find information on it.
But does it still get lost / get stuck in the never ending circle of death dance on any carpet with a design on it? I have a throw carpet I can't have it vacuum because of this ( I have S7)
This is great. As a Roomba i4 owner, this is a major upgrade, lol... But still happy that I at least have an automatic vacuum. It's really cool, and super efficient. Thanks for this great review; sponsored or not! :)
I appreciate your videos. What about thick carpet? I see robot vacuums that clean area rugs but what about bedroom carpets that are usually thick?
This looks like a huge upgrade from the s7 maxv ultra. Im going to look into trading mine in for this
That’s amazing. Gonna need that price to come down 2/3 at least though.
Roborock just never stops to surprise..... with the price!!! Thats really getting out of hands there!!
You are buying a robot, that ain't gonna be cheap. Not just any robot vacuum, but one with many moving parts. I think that price is justified. Their Q Revo is a steal for the amount of value you get for that.
Miy S8 Pro Ultra struggles with cables, so I need to use whatever I got, to cover the cables or put "moveable sockets" on high furniture, to avoid my robot snacking on them 😂
Other than that, it is worth every penny, and I love the additional features, which came in the app, upon adding it to my phone
Still dragging the dirty mop pad around....v.s Eufy S10 , it actually mops and clean pad at the same time....pretty awesome unique feature...one of its kind!
Currently rocking a S5 Max and it's still going strong, but I really miss some out of the box compatibility with Home Assistant. I really miss not being able to use "room-cleaning" from HA.
Unless this model supports that out of the box I can see any reason to stay on roborock.
My S8 Ultra supports room-cleaning out of the box. No need for HA (which I also use).
How often will it empty the dust bin, this is my only complaint about the s7 maxv it didn't empty until its tasks are done.
Can you make it vacuum hard floors before mopping them?
At this point the important thing I care about is, CAN this work completely offline ?
And does it have any hidden subscription model ?
If it cannot work Offline or Needs subscription for any features, then I AM OUT.
Cannot allow a literal CAMERA roaming in my house if that is connected to the Internet.
and Cannot allow another subscription based service either.
I have personally started my Home Server and made sure everything works offline including Cameras (only goes online when requested for remote access)
I also liked 8 Sleep Pod, but cause of the ridiculous subscription I didn't get it.
no subscription, and doesnt work offline unless you root it
OF COURSE THERE'S A SUBSCRIPTION! How else are you going to maintain it? Bags, mop fluid, pads, etc. All add up.
@@investmentanalyst779 no there isnt, you can buy reusable bags, fluid is optional, pads on ali are like 10 bucks for 5 which last 1 or 2 years, if you spend 1k+ on a ROBOT which is totally a luxury item and you worry about 10-20 bucks a year then maybe go back to regular bucket and mop cleaning.
Sold my s8 about a a month ago so I can buy this when it came out. By the way, love the shirt. You have a company or a link for that? Is it fjallraven?
Thanks! The shirt is just a random one from Threadless, here's a link: www.threadless.com/shop/@JCLovely/design/fox/mens/t-shirt/premium?color=steel_blue#m
I have a Roborock S7, which I'm still happy with, but the wiping performance could be better. So I am surprised that Roborock hasn't installed rotating mops in its new top model. (apart from the mini sidekick mop)
In numerous tests, vacuum robots with rotating mops have shown better mopping performance than those with vibrating mops. In terms of concept, it also seems understandable to me that a rotating movement is more effective than vibration, apart from the fact that side-rotating pads can reach corners better than a centrally mounted vibrating pad.
Even Roborock has installed two rotating mopping pads in their Q Revo model, and the mopping performance is top-notch there too. On the Dreame L20 Ultra, one of the two rotating mopping pads can even extend thanks to the pivoting arm, allowing for more thorough cleaning right up to the edge of walls. The ECOVACS X1 Omni also shows better mopping performance in tests with its rotating mops than models with vibrating mops.
What do you think about the question of whether rotating mops wouldn't be better?
Can it detect and avoid spreading dog poop when ours has an accident at night?
We just gotta teach the vacuum to clean the dog poop.😂
Much more important to avoid the poop! My S4 vac ran over a pile once and tracked poop everywhere
@@ahawks81 🤦♂️
lol loved the kids cleaning their baseboards part
any idea how it does with pets that shed a lot?
How can I purchase this from the UK?
The new dreame x40 has two extending arms. One for dust and one for mopping. It has 12000pa suction.
Strongly recommend against anything Dreame at the moment. The vacuum performs well (mostly) but their support/repair/warranty infrastructure is basically non-existent. If you want after purchase support, steer away from Dreame.
Are we near the end of Dyson stickvac?
I currently have the S7 max V ultra and the only thing it doesn’t do that well is vacuum carpets. My VERY old Neato Vac Bot can go after the Roborock and get everything missed…
Is it better than the dream l30?
I bought the S7 Max V Ultra because the integrated mopping feature sounded good. Unfortunately, the mop pad wouldn't stay attached and folded over on itself. It didn't raise up enough to clear the rug, either. The S8 sounds like it has great features, but I'm still suspicious of that mop pad. The S7 cost about $1500, so I'm not eager to take a chance again.
How does it connect to the plumbing though
Just like the washing machine’s drain
I still have s5 max 😁still works since 2017
Omg I loved mine too!!
I think it’s time for a match between this one and the ecovacs Deebot X2.
I'm unsure between this and the new Dreame X40 Ultra.
After years of waiting, I will buy my first robot vacuum cleaner. I'm being careful and I'm still waiting for the reviews for these two models now.
If I can get a good trade-in for my S7 maxv ultra I’ll definitely upgrade!
Trade in option + black Friday deal = great deal
What is that small lamp behind you?
It's a Sonos IKEA lamp with a smart LIFX candle bulb inside that can do multiple colors at once.
@@SmartHomeSolver Thank you!
Do you know if the cheaper version "S8 Max Ultra" has the camera?
No, the cheaper non-MaxV doesn’t have a color camera or remote control ability.
did you even watch the video, there's your answer
Would be interesting to see “tell roborock to bring me coffee” etc lol
i have a question for you.
i never have had a robot vaccum, thinking about it, but the only thing that block me from pursuing is.... in 7-8-9 years at least, how is this robot going to behave ? same as? still as good ? they can have my money if it stands but if they don't live for as long i can't commit to that..
A few issues I have.
Gloss black surface on the top? Going to look bad with fingerprints from curious kids, dust, and scratches.
The circle shape of the robot is so inconvenient. A square shape would be far better for packaging and bigger mop vibrating surfaces and reaching corners without complicated extending brushes.
The camera facing out while parked is a bit of a privacy issue since the S7 MVU parked camera in on the dock.
Lastly, the detergent needs to allow use of most third party floor cleaners. The roborock solution is not a very good cleaner. Make the hardware able to survive properly diluted floor cleaning solutions.
How is it possible that the mop is washed with 60 degree hot water, but when you then feel the water that has just been pumped out, it is cold. You'd say it should be somewhat warm, right?
So our old Roomba just got destroyed after our dog had a... happy little accident... I'm talking full on poop smearing all up in the rollers and dust bin compartment.
It sounds like the S8 does well against object collision, but how does it do for fecal avoidance?
Was hoping for a review, not an ad
It does look great. Wonder how cloud dependent it is, I'm guessing "very"? That plus the camera really puts a damper on the joy, to say nothing of the $2 grand. I'd also really prefer if the mop was two rotating discs rather than the pad but I guess that's a nitpick.
It depends, cleaners typically charge 120-200$ depending every 2-3 weeks and of course they clean everything.. but this level of cleaning is something i never even imagined 4-5 years ago.. we’ve come a long way
With Voice commands, can you interchange between vacuuming and mopping modes? 😁
Agreed. This is very frustrating that you cannot voice command the sweeper to sweep only (no mopping).
Which is better drearme X30 Ultra vs roborock s8 Max V ultra ????
Dreame X40 Ultra
Strongly recommend against anything Dreame at the moment. The vacuum performs well (mostly) but their support/repair/warranty infrastructure is basically non-existent. If you want after purchase support, steer away from Dreame.
people are always saying how these types of robot vacuums are from the future like the 3,000's, when WE ARE ALREADY IN THE FUTURE!
This is a really cool product, and I want it! But for $1,800 I should really get the option for local-only control. Unfortunately it appears cloud connection is required for this vacuum to work. Major bummer.
This truly is the future. Next it will go out clean your yard and mow your lawn.
They have those already, lawn care companies offer as a subscription too
What’s more telling in these ads is what’s not mentioned. Like how the mapping in the s7 is junk, always adding nonexistent rooms, seeing through walls, moving the dock on the map. I’m assuming that’s still broken otherwise your script would say it’s fixed
8:03 whoever patched that drywall did not took pride in his work, don't know what the fudge is going on around those pipes 😂
Will it avoid dog poop and pee?
S7MaxV owner here. If the tiles have 0.1mm height difference the tile scrubs the mop and the dirt gathers between. :(
Thanks for the video 😊
How well do you think this will work in a 2 storey house? Can you just chuck it upstairs, and it will just work? Maybe bring to dock upstairs for a day for it to clean upstairs?
No Luna test? Will the plumbed in version be available at the same time? Want to not have a tank of stinky water in the Laundry room.
I think it should be available at the same time. Roborock said they were still working on the documentation on how to connect that new dock so that's why they held off on sending it over to try out.
Thanks Reed. There is usually a connect up hose to the washer that you can put a tee on for a water supply to the base station. Mine has a tee to the steamer option on the dryer. Hopefully, the waste pipe can go into the drain for the washer.
P.s. did you see Rob's comparison review yesterday?
Dreame is so much better though. I'm Asian Asian so mopping is vital. You can set it to dock and clean the mop a couple of times for each room instead of dragging a dirty mop back and forth from start to finish. That literally emulates what Asians Asians do. Also, their handheld vacuum mop is also super amazing for spot cleaning.
Smart
10:00 is hilarious lmao
It looks like the same problem I have with S7 MaxV Ultra, is going to be on this new vacuum. I never refill the water tank on the vacuum on my own, because it auto fills it, but today, I was looking at the cashback offer, and cleaning it up for pictures, and there is brown build-up or mold/mildew in the tank! So I have been cleaning my floors with dirty water! gross! I have found the same brown mildew in my clean water tank too, but Today is the first time I even looked at the vacuum's water tank. Please come out with a better solution to add to the Roborock products! It says you are only allowed to use Roborock cleaning solution, so now I don't know what to do!
Wowzers, can you drop the price at the beginning of the video? $1800 💸💸💸
I’m worried about how high it is. It doesn’t look like it can get under furniture. My Roomba S9 gets under almost everything- not the lasyboy. But I’m jonesing for it.
High is 10.3 cm
Can the camera be turned off?
Yes
Thank you
That dust bag is so small. I have 4 pets. I don’t vacuum nearly as often as I should but we have so much hair. I wonder how often I’d have to change the bag
WHAT Read facial hair??????!!?!! when???? I miss old read without facial hair
My only concern is how well do these things handle hard water over time, especially on an auto fill / auto empty one where you're not going to pay attention.
Also, not really a fan of cameras and mics inside the house.. there should be very clear lights AND a shutter so you have assurance it's off.. I understand the camera is for a lot of the features here but that camera should close up and the voice assistant is pointless imo, no need for microphones in the house that area always listening
The robot is cool, but what about that shirt? Link 👀?
Yeah I love that design www.threadless.com/shop/@JCLovely/design/fox/mens/t-shirt/regular?color=slate#m
Dude, longtime viewer. Keep the beard. You look great.
I can buy 18 vacuums for the price of this one with actual suction with a beater bar and it lasts 20 years.
Your remark is the equivalent of complaining about the cost and limited battery of early cell phones, comparing them to land-line devices.
It is a top-of-the-line autonomous vacuum cleaner. Highly advanced systems are embedded.
The benefit of automated choirs is significant and can be worth the price, for those with the means.
In a few years, solutions like these will be affordable, much like computers and smartphones.
@@jizzlecizzle1388 Thanks for clearing that all up, I have to vacuum now...
It's crazy that something that should be able to vacuum to a insane price of almost $2.000 is so bad. The hype is real with this one.
It's funny to watch all of this. When iRobot was on top they wanted $800ish and that seemed absurd. Then once RoboRock got enough marketshare via iRobot sleeping at the wheel, they reset the market price to an even a more absurd level above and continue to raise it .. it wasn't that long ago when the S5 was launched at around $600.
I've used many of these things, they are extremely useful, but not $1800 useful. I always recommend to buy last year's model or go for a store return which usually sell for about 33% of the MSRP.
I mean this respectfully... Ty for calling out this was a sponsored view.. but ugh. Couldn't get tru to the end.... Tooooo much.
5:06 - That’s a lie. 20 cm is more than the whole vacuum is in height.
To be fair, that's less likely a lie and more likely just an honest mistake. He probably meant mm.
Yeah, I meant to say mm not cm.
@@kylek29 he was paid to do an ad. If there’s a mistake in a paid ad, the ad gets taken down.
@@MarkLee1 dude 20 cm doesnt make any sense at all, saying a "lie" like that would put him in a very stupid place, but instead you are in that place for blaming him
Nice beard Reed!
This is pretty awesome, but $1800 is crazy expensive. I'll stick with my S5 Max.
oh no.... still dont have auto refill and output dirt water function....
Awesome videos sorry I’m so late
I appreciate you watching it anytime!!
Lift height of 20 centimeters.. I think you mean millimeters
Not gonna lie: You Look way different with a mustache and beard 😅
Haha I grew it out while I was on vacation with my family and then I just kept it.
@SmartHomeSolver ahhhh okay. That's Nice 😅
These robot vacuum cleaners are sponsoring everybody...
I was sold until I saw the bag. I only want bagless. I compost all of my vacuumed material, and I do not want to create unnecessary waste.
there are no bagless nowadays
