The use of traditional approaches to security challenges will not solve the insecurity in Nigeria. Putting boots on the ground may not readily yield the desire results. Govt should apply tech solutions to address insecurity in the country.
To start with, have a credible biometric data base of citizens and residents within the country.
Look, I have been following the crisis in Ukraine-Russia and how cheap tech applications are being used especially by the Ukrainians, and it hits me why is Nigeria not applying these solutions. They are out there in the market: satellites services can be procured to locate and pinpoint the bad guys, their camps and movement. Cheap Turkish drones which cost $1m and have been so effective in Ethiopia, Syria and now Ukraine. What stops us from getting our hands on these tools to address our security challenges? Why?
I have spent enormous time reading about military technologies and I do know there are tools to deal with situations like we have in Nigeria.
Those terrorists spent time at the location of the attack and no helicopter could be scrambled from the nearest post to the location to drop a counter response team on the ground or create aerial exposure on the activities of the terrorists to scare them to perhaps retreat for fear of bigger fire response.
While you can't not totally eradicate insecurity but you can reduce it to the minimum by applying the right tools. I hope we get forward-looking leaders that are digitally aware and understand how the modern world runs and operate. But with the set of folks I say aspiring to be leaders in the coming elections cycle, I fear my hope is already being threatened. They except for a few belong to the old stock. I haven't heard them talk about the use of modern tools to solve the myriad of problems facing the country. Same old and antiquated ideas and strategies.
