Daddy bought an LA in 1956 , it had a wooden floor board , high fenders with side that protected the driver , hand clutch and small gas tank to heat up the engine then open the main kerosene tank
Super cool tractor looks very solid.
Several were at Walker Army Airbase near Gorham Kansas. They were used to pull the B-29.
Really unique machine. Must be a conversation starter when purchasing aviation fuel for a tractor.
You dont have to have it but it can accept it if you wanted to add aviation fuel to it
@@charlesuplifted5216 higher compression means you need to run higher octane fuel or else you'll get knocking
You can bet on It! Ahah!!
"So you are going spraying around today with your air tractor?? A lot of fun!!"
"Yeah, lot of fun, but it's just a tractor without air, except for brakes!"
LOL 😄😄😄
@@endoresu Yes, but I'd bet that it's compression ratio is still well low enough to run on today's pump gas. Vintage tractors in general originally ran exceedingly low compression by today's standards.
@@shotforshot5983 4.09 : 1 is the compression ratio for those old guys [NEW] and that is such a low ratio you could probably run them on 120-year-old 20 octane gas LOL
I'm pretty certain that these tractors were used to tow around airplanes off the runways and Into the grass where regular tug trucks couldn't go
For sure. And this is why it has airbrakes, planes are heavy and they could have no brakes while towing, and even no pilot who brakes!
Nice sounding tractor would be cool to own one like this
Wow amazing tractor 🚜
Congrats 🎊👍🎈
Great looking and designed tractor when everything was done with a pencil and typewriter. Try to get someone today to try without a laptop. That was when folks walked around with brains in their heads.
Good point you made there. I never thought of that actually 👌🏼
I have a 1951 Harry Ferguson TO-20 that was painted olive drab and was used by the Army
Looks good in OD green.
COOL as it gets
Looks and sounds great!
This case is cool. I like it. 👍
Very cool!
My father was a korean vet he remembers them on a weekend of r×r they would take them la case tractor and. Tie a string to the throttle rod and race them on a run way he quoted that they could actually burn the rear tires doing burn outs you know in drag racing
Nice thank you for the video.
Would like to see what it looked like when he bought it.
Good look'n rig.
I'm surprised the Air Force didn't paint it blue when they reconditioned it.
The owner did say there were several different layers of paint on it. Maybe blue was one of them?
@@dwightl5863 They said the valve cover was still OD.
The air force didn't switch to blue uniforms until sometime in 1949, so this is probably the color it was painted when it was reconditioned.
@@6h471 That's why. Thanks for the info.
Most of the ground service equipment in the Air Force is still OD green today, so it's not that big of a deal that this tractor wouldn't be blue.
Quality family
cool tractor and great history it looked like that was a quite advanced machine . while war is a terrible thing it does advance technology of machines, communication and medicine now if we could do that without the terrable human suffering. i wonder with air brakes if they used it to tow large trailers
I have a 125 yanmar
Possible this tractor towed a B 36 with a thermonuclear weapon!
💪🚜👍
Don't let Whislindiesel know about this tractor.
All built at a time when farming till work if done at all was done by hand. Funny to hear today people complain their 25 horsepower diesel tractor is underpowered!
be nice to know the top speed
If its like the ag version, top speed is slow 😂
I have a 1949 Case LAI it'll do 30mph+ and still has more in it. She's a lot of tractor to handle at that speed. My LAI has a foot clutch, foot throttle ,and twin hydraulic master cylinders one for each rear brake.
@@camarossrssp different to our old one. Hand clutch and throttle and mechanical turning brakes.
8 thousand pounds jesus
Pretty chunky , needed that weight if it was moving aircraft up to bombers
