Pierre Billiou was my grandfather and that was his house he built. That house is still there and is the oldest building on Staten Island. Pierre was a magistrate and his daughter married Captain Nicholas Stillwell who was an officer in the English military. They lived in the house as well.

What all these "French" magistrates all had in common was that they spoke Walloon. Pierre was from Artois and was known as "Pierre the Walloon". They dressed differently and hung out together. They were a small percentage of society with most of the land.

Huguenots are not a race to be descended from. Huguenots were defined by their faith. You cannot say someone is descended from Huguenots, for that is to confuse Race with Ethnicity.

No more or less than Jews (and fact many Huguenots were probably Crypto-Jews). We are an ethnicity of the greater French diaspora, beyond just faith, but through community and shared experience, as well as migration.
