When this project started i really did not see the submarine reveal coming. (Why does youtube bother shadow banned comments, kinda pathetic.)
Didn’t see this one coming 😂

That's brutal 😂
I'm so pissed that this happened. I've been following the boat build ever since the very first video. I feel so sad that after all that effort, money and time spent, the boat sank. I can only imagine how you feel. I'm soory man.
this clown put more money and time into engines and cosmetics than actual hull maintenance like thru hulls and plumbing lmao. this guy is a poser 🤡
Just followed this channel for the boat build, hope you can salvage it. Would make great content.
problem with amateur boat people is they leave their boats for weeks or months at a time thinking it will be ok. bet he has not seen it for weeks.
Boats need looking at few times a week checking bilges and batteries and lines
As a boat owner who’s had to witness their childhood boat get washed away in a brutal storm some years back, I express sincere sympathy for you with the sinking of this amazing boat. I’ve watched the series from the start and it’s really sad to see this. Hopefully you get it out and damage isn’t too severe and you can try bring it back to life once more.
Sometimes when I'm driving over the bridge to work I see your boat, and I'm like, hey cool that's B is for Builds yacht.. then the other day as it's pouring rain I noticed it not there and thought to myself, what a horrible day to go on a boat ride. This explains a lot.
Same; I look every time I cross the bridge too!
B-is for Broke. Because I bought a big ass boat 🛥
Very sad 😢

Chris, I obviously know you've been through worse, but your relentless positivity and level headedness is a true inspiration. Thank you for just being a truly great human and an example to us all.
Totally agree 100%. Well said
Damn he all the way down your throat 😂
Thought exactly the same. It’s an infectious positivity, eh.
Not really stop kissing his ass
its because Chris aint right in the head, he don't know no better
Marlon! Gotta keep the bilge warm during these freezing temps. Had 6 boats go down in our marina. All from frozen seacocks.
Saddest thing I've seen on the internet. Worst part is this was one of my favorite builds you guys did. My heart goes out to you for your loss. 🤝
I'm gutted for you mate, I really enjoyed the refurbishment of this vessel. Hopefully we will see her fully sea worthy again one day.
Two best days of Chris's life - the day he got his yacht, and the day it sank
Why was that a good day
Insurance money about to be nice

@@chrisjohnson9587 It's an old joke about boat ownership 🙂. The 2 best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell (or in this case sink) it.
I’ve watched the channel from the beginning of the yacht project and I have been so impressed with the time and effort you have put into it. It’s soul crushing watching it sit underwater and watching the countless hours of work go to waste.
If you do decide to not scrap the project and choose to rebuild the yacht and need more hands let me know and I’ll drive over i would love to help bring the yacht back again. Thank you for the amazing content and please reach out I’m dead serious I would love to help out in any way possible.
If I were anywhere near Portland I’d volunteer as tribute as well. I wanted to see that thing at top speed wot and now that may never happen.
Awww Chris, this sucks monumentally. I have been in the same boat. I had a Thunderbird sailboat that sunk at the dock. My insurance refused to cover anything. We are all behind you on this.
Look it in a brighter side...now you can put the yacht over the Ram 3500 frame, and make a one of the kind camper.
XD
Basically a Dodge Charger at that point

I don’t know you, I’ve never met you, but I’ve been a fan now for many years and have watched the boat build from the very beginning episode and I am absolutely heart broken for you. Money aside, the sheer time and effort that it took to get it rebuilt, new engine package, and back into the water just to have this happen before you really got to enjoy it, absolutely blows!
Crying in his beer 🍺.
Breaks my heart. Amazing how positive you are
I watch the channel because of the boat build! Have LOVED it from day 1! I hope you can redo it, but totally understand if it's just not in the cards or feasible for ya! A BIG project ahead for her no doubt!!! So sorry she went down, you had her really decked out GR8!
If you decide to keep it, instead of putting it in storage at a yard like you had, consider getting a used trailer and just putting it in your shop. A trailer will be expensive, but depending on how long you need it, will probably pay for itself over storage at a drydock.
That is not a boat you just toss on a consumer grade trailer and pull home with your F150. A boat that big requires commercial grade transport.
@@TOC1616not commercial, any dedicated towing truck can tow it. F350, duramax,3500 etc. with a gooseneck
Problem is, that is a BIG and heavy yacht, there is no space for it at his shop, also, you need a semi truck to legally haul it.
Financially it wouldn't make a ton of sense. I believe he'd need a semi to move it and a driver with a CDL.
You don't need a cdl or a gooseneck. The trailers for made for the Riviera are bumper pull.
To restore it, you'll need to the inside EVERYTHING must go! Dry it off (sun exposure or mechanic heating). Bring it in the shop and If you do restore it I'll definitely watch.

@@PressurePlayerStudio the insurance money that doesn’t include the $100k recently invested.
Generally, that's not the best idea. One it sunk, it should stay on the bottom, figuratively speaking of course. It's a safety issue, if it went down one, it is more likely to do so again.

I joined your channel years ago because of the boat build, this is really heartbreaking to see, after all the hard work and upgraded engines and electronics, sometimes Shit happens and life sucks, all the best from Australia.
Came to say the same 👍
I’m going to bet on crack somewhere in the exhaust side below the waterline and that the sea cocks were left open. Probably no bilge heater as well. So much to know on big boats, and while Chris and his team are unquestionably brilliant and talented, they are also very inexperienced when it comes to boating and yacht maintenance. Good luck boys! I’m confident you’ll push through and learn a very expensive lesson.
Yeah, he seems overly confident in how he's doing things and if it's the right way of doing those things. This can create amateur hour -moments. Like in this video claiming they can lift the boat themselves, without professionals, if only insurance co. would let them. A bit of humility and understanding how things work is maybe needed.
He did it on purpose it was a insurance scam
WELL, IT SUCKS, BUT NOW YOU CAN TELL EVERYONE YOU OWN A 30 YEAR OLD ITALIAN SUBMARINE. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN SAY THAT??
Lived in Jantzen Beach for 8 years on a 60 ft yacht not far from that marina and every year during winter we had at least one boat go down a year in that marina alone because of freezing temps. It's amazing one incandescent light bulb in the bilge for $1 can save you $$$$.
Call me a pessimist, but somehow I expected something like this to happen. First sign he didn't know anything about boating was when he removed the "old fashioned" radar because he had a cellphone with the marine traffic app. Probably didn't winterize anything on board.
Bummer! Good luck! Liked all the boat videos!!!!🍀
So sorry to hear.
Following you for 2 years !!
Ouch, that hurt to watch. I'm always impressed with how positive you can come across on camera, or even to just be on camera when shit hits the fan. I would guess there was a lot of shouting/cursing on the drive over there. Cheers to you for just pushing forward. Whatever you do with this thing, we're here to support.
Honestly, this was one of the most interesting build series on youtube. It's a beautiful boat. I hope you bring it back
The boat is what brought me to this channel. What a beauty to have to consider selling.
Same here, sad to see
So sorry to see this Chris after all of the hard work that has gone into the boat already, must be worth a renovation video!!
i have no idea how you keep your composure through all this stuff but it is commendable

You’ve faced some incredible challenges, and the fact that you face them head on, and not crumble… makes you a giant, my friend! You’re an inspiration!
so sorry for this loss Chris, you and the boys with that boat what got me interested in boats in the first place, well things happen hope you will get back from it stronger
Broke my heart, absolutely love the boat! It needs to be rebuild. If not by you, I'll buy it from you!
B is for Build…… R is for Rescue. I’m sorry for your troubles, but your determination, patience and ingenuity in all of these projects are great learning lessons and do make for great videos.
So sorry for you Chris. I started watching B is for Build when you first got this boat, so it is a big part of the channel for me. When I think of all the time, money and headaches this boat has cost you it must be quite a slap in the face. Good luck with the floating and finding the cause. Looking forward to the restoration. I hope that a lot is salvageable!
How you continually stay positive throughout the entire event really deseves some praise. A shocking incident to have happen but you pushed through. Well done.

Had to watch again.. I hope it's a ez fix and not much got destroyed, we all know how much you like the boat and we like it as well.. Very sad.. All that time and money into it.. I wish nothing but good vibes for you and your team.. Stay safe..
U killed the boat. Great stuff !
Well, this shows the balance of life. You ultimately took this one in stride, just as you do when troubleshooting other major repairs/setbacks, but then take joy in the finished product (such as cancer-->chemo-->clean). A further example, in the last video (Murci test drive), you were grinning ear-to-ear, and the viewers were happy with you. This week, we felt your pain. I have watched enough BIFB videos to know you will land. Maybe not squarely on your feet at first, but you WILL land.
oh my god Chris I am so sorry to see this view of the boat. all that amazing hard work and thousands of man hours your team has put into it and now a pressure wash away from a do over... my heart goes out to you. :( Thank you also for mentioning those rescue workers that come and help with peoples boats and bringing it back to the surface.. Happy birthday what a crazy gift. Despite what happened maybe its a gift of a new build.
This is truly devastating. The amount of work and effort that went into this Yacht leaves me speechless. Good luck!!!
So sorry this happened to you, Chris, and hope you'll be able to get it back to its glorious state. But, even if you don't, the way you approach such tragic events is commendable and I am sure you will be able to get through this, the same way you did before.
I feel so bad for him. That really sucks. I can't imagine having a loss like that with one of our projects. I watched every commercial/add and didn't skip at all to hopefully help the video make as much money it can to help offset the cost of recovery and repair
Bummer man hope you feel better soon 💜 and hope the recovery isn't to bad we've seen worse right piece 👊
My heart literally sank when i saw the thumbnail. I used to have nightmares about finding my own boat sunk in the slip.

Sad to see after all your hard work.Love that you were very positive during this difficult time.Hope to be able to see the boat being rebuilt
Not sure where the love part was. All through this series I’ve seen him struggle, be miserable about the costs of everything and spend hundreds of hours of work to use it once. I really think this was the best thing that could have happened to the boat which is why he’s so positive
Happy Belated Trip Around the Sun🎂.
Best to you Scott 🏁
Sorry about the boat and good luck in the War with the Evil Empire.
Man I liked the boat stuff on your channel.
Prop shaft seal? Maybe. But it’s nice to see you remain optimistic after this. I wouldn’t be able to be on camera.
It would have to let go completely. His sumps should have been able to deal with leaking seals. It would take a serious size leak or his sumps going out to sink that thing. He may have lost shore power, and his batteries died, then a leak could have taken him down.
@@ripn929707 Shouldnt the seacocks have been closed to prevent that happening?
Could also be rain/snow accumulated on it, deck scuffers got clogged with ice, and the sumps died. If it went low enough in the water a loose hatch or porthole could have let it in. It looks to have sank rear first.
Wow dude im so sorry, that was a TON of work to get that bad boy driving on the water, if anyone can go through this with a smile. I thinks it's you Chris! good luck with everything in the future
Great video! Mike from Missouri
Man that sucks. Sorry to hear. And happy birthday! Ha. Good luck.
Holy crap man! My stomach sank when I started watching and realized it wasn't click bait. THAT SUCKS!!! Looking forward to seeing what caused it and what the plans are. I vote rebuild. Get it hauled to the shop and go to town on it. I'm sure that'll be cheaper in the long run compared to a dry dock.
Sad way to start your birthday man. I wasn't as invested in the boat as other projects but still definitely sucks to see all that hard work gone to waste. Here's hoping you can recover or repair as much as possible. Best of luck, BIFB team! And I hope you had a better rest of your birthday week.
Hearbreaking dude - I bout crapped myself when I saw the thumbnail - this was one of my favorite rebuild series. Maybe the bright side is we will get more content now with the restoration. Please restore this beauty.
I am amazed and complement you both on your attituded dealing with this situation!

Happy birthday brother! Wow what a present 😬 I appreciate your positive attitude. If you rebuild I’ll watch 😅
Sorry bro. I watched all the blood sweat at tears you put into this boat. You HAVE TO REBUILD at this point. Too much invested in the project and the fans hearts!!❤
OH SHIT! Chris, so sorry to see that happen. Can't say I want to buy it from you in this state, but super interested in finding out why it sank, and hopefully watching you rebuild it. Oh, and happy birthday.
I literally just watched one of your videos before watching this one.
I know I'm just a stranger to you, but I feel strangely invested in your life story, having followed you for all of these years. Once again, I have to admire your on-screen attitude about these sorts of things. I hope you had a complete melt-down off-camera. I know I would. Such a shame, all of that hard work. Sadly, hats off for not click baiting us. It did actually sink! Good luck on getting it ship shape and orderly again. No clickbait means even at your lowest points you are still a man of tremendous integrity.
I've heard that term numerous times and it just now sunk in what "clickbaiting" is...
I Loved what you did to this boat, my Heath is Full of Grief for you.
Low key, I’m happy for him. That’s free content 😂
I worked at a marina for many years when I was younger and helped with 99% of the sunken boat recoveries. I loved doing it. It was always an adventure!
Yeah because it wasn’t your property - clown
That really sucks . Wish you all the best man !!! ✊
Sorry to hear and see. I loved that boat just as much as you.
I feel your pain. I lost a boat in 2018 when the entire marina was destroyed by a storm. Like you, I had a battle with insurers. In the end they paid out. I left the sea behind but now live on a boat on the inland waterways. When it first happened I doubted I'd get a boat agajn, but time heals and you can build from the ashes.
I wish you well 🙏
I’m so sorry this happened , if the insurance is being ignorant and not helping the way they should I strongly recommend trying to salvage the new LS motors and maybe putting them on a new to you boat one that’s not going to sink and has better stability, even if you do fix it there’s no guarantee it won’t sink again :( your positivity is truly inspiring you’re a great man.
Wow I'm super gutted for you
So much effort was put in to the yacht
Feeling your pain
geez this is why I pull my boat for the winter, how awe full
Omg. Dude I’m so sorry. U just got it running so good. Just glad y’all are ok and y’all weren’t way out in it when it happened
As so many have said; your positive attitude in these situations is infectious!
Best of luck with whatever direction you choose 👍 Depending on insurance, I'd probably cut my losses at this point, but equally I wouldn't want it to beat me 🤔
Yes I agree! The positive attitude is amazing, and ya I'd feel super defeated at first, but would be determined to turn it around
The best part is going to be when he finds out that the diesel engines were 80% of the value. The core charge on the diesel engines is more than the new cost of the LSX engines. Plus, yachts of that size with gas engines have no resale at all, so the insurance isn’t going to pay him squat. He literally paid over $100,000 to lower the value of the yacht to $10,000. If it’s over 36 feet long and isn’t a center console with outboards, it only has value with diesel engines. Plus, since those LSX engines are not marine rated, his insurance doesn’t even have to cover him at all. Using automotive parts in a yacht is a big problem, and is more than enough reason for his insurance to just laugh at him and pay nothing. If they pay him $10,000, they are being nice.
@@adamr9215I'm not sure I get your sarcasm, but he talked about the high diesel engine replacement costs. It's what made him figure the alternative with LSX for his case, so thankfully this won't be a surprise for Chris.
@@IceAce1 I don’t think you understand. It was worth more with 2 broken diesel engines than with 2 new gas engines. Plus, those LSX engine aren’t marine rated, so the insurance doesn’t have to pay him anything. He put over $100,000 into that boat and since it was done wrong, all he did was lower the value to nothing. It was only worth $5-10,000 after all the work. He seems to think that since he paid $100,000 for the engines, he is going to get that much back, but he isn’t. He will be lucky if he gets $10,000.
@@adamr9215 Honestly, I'm not interested enough in the monetary values, but certainly know/agree it would have brought more value to stick to original parts. We'll see what happens.
At least we don't have a case where both the insurance and the owner bail from salvage costs, like the Nakoa's after it kissed a protected Hawaiian reef.
Sell it, see if you can flood the engines with oil/lube and recover them once you get the water and mud out. Loved the content of the boat, that’s why I subscribed. I’ve restored a sailboat that sank, and it was months of work.
OMG. I feel so bad for you. Watched the process of building. Best of luck.
Gutted for you. You put so much work into it
