I hope things get better for you all.. I read about Thanksgiving Day and independence day and what it means to Native Americans cus there was a question about it in some American sociology book. Surprisingly it gave me a shock and also quite saddened by the incident of massacre. It's funny how Thanksgiving has changed its meaning overtime. Such spiteful humans!

As a Native American, my take on the so called peaceful gathering of Puritans or Colonists and the Native First People at a celebratory feast is a moral tale, but not so much a historical narrative. The text book claim that there was a peaceful agreement to the giving (over to the invading British Colonial Government) of our Homeland is sheer fantasy. But as a moral story it would indeed be better told as a faith story. Thus, my Christ-centered perspective is one that is of charity, goodwill, giving from abundance to needy others, practicing creation care, and a true thankful heart in all gratitude to the Creator Lord God, by living in His Grace and within the peaceful life in harmony with others, at least in as much as one may keep it. For me and mine, Thanksgiving is a day of remembrance and of faith. There was a time, an era, of struggle, decline and war, but today is a new day, a different era, and we must build on this with new hope and retain peace by living in God’s evidential Truth. And for generations who are yet to come of all colour, just NO more lies.....

Man. I was in 1st grade back in 1979. My bf Ben was a Native American I invited over for Thanksgiving. He told me his mother wouldn't allow him to come. So I told my mom and she went to his house.
I could tell by the look on my mom's face something was up, when his mom answered the door.
Next thing we were having a REAL convo about Thanksgiving.
Though it's our standard family tradition, we acknowledge and speak of the atrocities that lead to this holiday and our families eventually arrival via slave ships.
I've raised my family to understand the difference between reality and propaganda of our American traditions.

It's true, most are mixed but it doesn't mean they are completely something else either. They are the middleground. A mexican like myself can consider myself native by blood since I share alot of physical features with them, but culturally is a different story. Just like how light-skins(afro with whyte mix) can still consider themselves blvck, why can we not consider ourselves native as well? We have to also take into account that native identity has been nearly wiped out, it's not easy to recover what's been lost. Not just Natives, also the Americans here as they come from various backgrounds but do not embrace the traditions/cultures of their homeland(Europe). The only difference is that the natives here want to bring out and express their roots, it's somehow a stigma when we do it but any other race can express their culture without it being a stigma. It's only my observation but anyone else can differ in experience.

YES it was a peaceful feast with BOTH settlers & natives in 1621, after which there was peace with that specific group, but the TWO joined forces to against NEIGHBOURING TRIBES who were VIOLENTLY attacking their neighboring Indians, JUST LIKE they had been doing FOR HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of years prior to settlers EVER stepped foot on these shores.
Were atrocities committed?? Absolutely, by BOTH settlers & natives. AND atrocities committed BETWEEN TRIBES for many, many CENTURIES before Europeans showed up. You forgot to mention anything about that. Neither did you mention the settlers wanting to buy land & the confusion about that by natives bc they had no concept of land ownership & afterwards wanted the land back, which caused conflict. You didn't mention violent way of life natives had by invading other lands & neighboring tribes, slaughtering men, women & children, taking them as slaves ALL BEFORE settlers got here. And GOD FORBID the white man insist on that not happening to their own wives & children. Were settlers innocent?? By no means!! Nobody is, has been nor ever will be perfect. Just saying this kinda ONE-sided story, this MARXIST Good vs Evil History narrative is UTTER BS.
The world was much different back then. There wasn't the ABUNDANCE there is today in any country. ALL ppl were snatching & grabbing from others to prosper. Before settlers arrived HERE, that took place between ALL the natives for 100's if not 1000's of years.

People need to get with the facts! no one land belongs to any one group of people...in nature the strongest occupy that's how it works! To say that so-called Native Americans have the right to the US is laughable. people have been pushing people off land for thousands of years and the the lineage of the so-called indigenous peoples of the US has been traced back to Eurasia so who did they take the land from? And last I checked isn't the Cradle of mankind in Africa.. that would mean that Native people would have migrated to the Americas hence they we're not indigenous to the area 😉

What I do wanna mention, is how dangerous your logic is. Native Americans are not all fair skin people. There were native indian people with dark brown skin, who people call black today, in America before the colonists settled. People in countries near the equator, people of the sun, such as the African countries, India, Hawaii, New Zealand, Fiji, Caribbean countries were mostly reddish brown, brown or dark brown skinned and were nomadic people. They were traveling in canoes around what we call the equator area.

@Capitan Barbosa But who did it? That was never ordered from the crown or US government. It is just regular warfare. Remember the natives, against the british were forced to strike first. There was terrible crimes on all sides as well. Also remember if this is genocide, then what Napolean did in europe is also genocide. The closest thing to genocide would be what the spanish did. However the spanish did that in europe with the inquistion. So the definition is there was a order to literally wipe out the natives and not just take land. So I ask again who ordered it?
