31:40 in accounting school, I learned that all labor and factory overhead is paid before profits are made. Profits are merely a basis of dividends to shareholders, a way to save for the next accounting cycles’ expenses, and extra pay for the capitalists rather than the workers most times.
But capitalists will have their baseline salary in C1, based on accounting: A=direct and indirect materials, B=overhead, C1=direct labor and indirect labor (which is where administrators, directors, and bosses come in since they aren’t really needed to make the product), C2=profit margins, and D=total price of purchase.
C1 will always be less than D; true. The boom-bust cycle analysis you had, Caleb, is true: less paid to workers makes less sold on the market, which leads to overproduction, and more technology replacing workers with less money for all people makes less in total profit because technology can’t buy products lol

I would love a copy of this "little special book" but how do I get one (in Wales UK ? ) By the way you've turned the "transcript" thing off Caleb so I can't even print it off from there. 🤔 It's really, really excellent

We will have a book version available for purchase soon. It’ll have the pamphlet essay plus some other articles.

Caleb you should interview Jason Hickel he has wrote two books about degrowth but the conclusion is similar to yours

Having read Hickel (and his critics), I completely agree. The terms "growth" and "degrowth" have nothing to do with the conclusions we all share. Both Hickel and Maupin want scientific progress, prosperity, environmental and social health, etc.
Hickel is clear on this, and his overall research project and academic articles are really innovative and compelling as long as people read past the title.
