What I really love about JHud's version is you can still hear Aretha's in it but is still distinctive from the latter.

she's not quite there, but near enough. the original is a soul classic, and is in many ways different, especially vocally, but JHud is pretty damn close to perfecting it.

The recording of “Ain’t No Way” is the single greatest music scene in the film. Aretha’s sister Carol wrote the song and she’s learning it and there’s a film crew there. And her other sister is just belting out those high notes in the background… It’s just SO EMOTIONAL AND SO BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTBREAKING because if her marriage… ugh SO GOOD. The music is STELLAR in the film. Jennifer’s acting is very SOLID but her singing really SHINES and it’s the BEST you’ll EVER hear Ms. Hudson. WHEW CHILE… 👋🏾

Brilliant! This interpretation is 98% as good as the original-more than we have a right to expect. Jennifer is an Oscar-winning actress with her own unique sound but for a biopic, she is the only contemporary artist who could begin to capture Aretha’s star power.
There is only one Aretha, or even us for that matter we can only interpreted but never duplicated.

No not even close. Jennifer has a powerful voice, but she is not the most soulful of her generation. Fantasia, Kelly Price, Kierra Sheard, Jasmine Sulivan are way more soulful. Jennifer is more popular because of her acting career, but soul has nothing to do with popularity or being loud. :) I am kind of having mixed feelings about seeing this movie after hearing the released music. I did not feel anything while listening to it. Dreamgirls was a better fit for her voice.

When Aretha released this song (1968?) I first heard it in my car on my way to a band practice. (I'm a musician) Within the first 8 bars I had to pull over to the curb to give it my full attention. By the time Aretha got to the bridge I was in tears. It instantly became one of my favorite songs and performances of all time. So I took my wife to see the movie yesterday and when this song came around I was instantly transported back into that car at the curb fighting to keep from sobbing out loud. It does not get any better than this!! Thank you, Aretha and Jennifer for sharing your gifts with us.
