Mass Closure of 30,000 Travel Agencies, Shanghai’s Airports Empty, 90% Nosedive in Foreign Tourists

- A year after the end of the CCP's pandemic lockdowns, China's economy shows no signs of recovery but rather a further downturn. In December, nearing the New Year, Shanghai's two busiest airports, Pudong and Hongqiao, have been reported as eerily quiet. The airport halls are empty, with only a few passengers coming and going, and most of the various shops and restaurants remain closed, visibly reflecting the extent of the economic slump.

Starting in 2016, the mood in China towards Americans began to sour. By 2019 it felt genuinely sketch to be there. I will not return until Xi is gone, gone, gone.

Most stores are closed, tourism is nearly ended, businesses are closing left and right, investment is waaaay down, yet tax revenues are up? Something is a lie.

seems like the mainstream media and even the foreigner china vloggers are creating an image that everything is as normal ... totally different to the reality
Do you think the foreinger vloggers in China dare to say anything negative about China or the CCP? They could be arrested and get kicked out of China, or worse, imprisoned without anyone knowing about it.
Just shows how much power money has. True journalism isn't done for the money.
Those vloggers should be well paid by Chinese authority.
China doesn’t want foreigners inside China, so let them. They left along with the foreign companies and their capital.
Capital Flight has entered the chat.
Dont believe this video. They are lying. This is an outdated video taken years ago. While I am not denying that there is a massive capital flights it certainly isnt to the level this channek tries to portray.
They want foreign expertise, IP and money. They don’t want the annoyance of having the actual people in their country.

Why are they leaving?
@@RichWithTech .. this year both were harassed by police. both had phones taken & looked at. the male was taken in for questioning, female was under house arrest for a week while her phone was in CCP hands.

This is why China surprisingly allow 6 countries citizens from 6 countries visa free visits to PRC
China wants free hostages and idiots will go willingly
Americans know China was responsible for covid. Of course we would not reward them, for maniacal birthrate that killed millions.
Italy rejected the offer if i am right? Not sure
@@Hey1234Hey if China allows Italians visa free, how exactly can Italy (as in, the Italian government) reject it? Letting Italians in does not need approval from the Italian government, right?
Are Russia, Iran, north Korea (the most trusted allies of china) among those countries?
I’ve traveled through Pudong at least 10 times. It’s always very busy and the shops and restaurants all had robust business. This is mind blowing. Sociaists and Communists always destroy.
Agreed. Those who practice marxist/leninist/stalinist communism do as much systemic damage as the far right like Trump and most of the MAGA crowd. In only four years, they managed to bring the USA from an international power, to a joke. I really hope we don't see them return to full power in washington DC or we're going to look a lot more like China.
do they turn on the air con in China airports?
has nothing to do with socialism or communism, but everything with a dictator dictating his ideas versus democratically chosen representatives executing the will of the people.
@@stayprepared2388 Yes, unless they have changed their practices to save money.
This has less to do with socialism and communism and more to do with corruption and propaganda. Capitalism is not much better when it comes to destroying things. Forms of governance are tools and be used in positive ways and negative ones. As much as China touts itself as communist it is mostly just on the outside. Internally it is very much a capitalist society.
...this is what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you. :(
Global Order of the West that is. Giving China a crash [pun intended] course in global economics, global finance, capital flight, and other capitalist trends/traps/processes/etc.
That’s what I said to. The US brought China into modern times and with tons of money. Taking away our own wealth. Then China turns around and says fk You US! And we are now big enough to take you out. Sheesh, now we were forced to show you again who is boss. What idiots. Could have been friends and allies. But no, no, no.
So now you get to go back into the same hole that we found you in before. Just with better lighting now. Cheers!🥂 😂
Oh and this also includes bullying Taiwan and Hong Kong. Shame on you. Now run along you paper dragon. Lol.
When China took over and ran it with their rules. Visitors knew no matter what the rules are not equal but China as a taker of all they can get.
China eats their own kids for their CCP policies. What do they do to yours as a foreigner? Nobody trusts them... maybe someday but it will take a lot of humility and dropping of pride.

Why would you want to go to China again? I can't come up with one good reason!
Why would any foreigners (except Russian) want to visit China? Costly and time consuming to get a Visa, painful to pay for anything as normal payment methods are not widely accepted (VISA, Mastercard etc), horrible pollution, and now economic issues. Not exactly a great place to be if you have a choice.

Five years ago, Shanghai was on my bucket-list. No more!
Had a layover in Shanghai airport in 2012 with a disabled elder. Everyone was rude and disorganized and wouldn’t make decisions for themselves. Chinese passengers barged in ahead. Gong show. Probably worse now.
I lived in China for ten years and I never went to Shanghai. Truth be told I will probably never go to China again.

When people consider China's loss in foreign currency revenues since 2019 they often fail to mention the $130 billion loss in tourism and a similar loss in expat spending. Coupled with the decline in exports and foreign investment and the increased capital flight the difference from 2019 is well over $500 billion in foreign currency entering or staying in China each year. And China was not able to increase its foreign reserves much above $3 trillion before this happened.
All Because of their government zero covid policy
We demanded a withdrawal of investment. Looks to be working well.
I have traveled to Shanghai twice, never again, maybe the Chinese Government might value the tourist dollar, but I don't think so.
I use to have layovers flights going through China when flying to The Philippines, since 2018 I no longer book layover flight going through China because of the negative mood change in China.
I like stopping in Taiwan because i love beef noodle soup! yeah i'm skeptical with china now, they might detain you for looking filipino or american 🤣🤣
Who'd have thought being hostile to the world would harm trade?
I wouldn't go to Pudong even for a connecting flight.
Unless you are flying a Chinese airline, it would be highly unlikely. Even traveling from west-east would make it an unlikely hub.
I was in the Pudong airport right when the pandemic was declared,
it was the most surreal experience. staff in biohazard suits, almost no passengers, no stores open.
Shanghai has never really been top of a tourist's list. The scamdemic finished it off. It has a tiny bit of cosmopolitan life, scattered thinly and far, with also little actual Chinese culture. Most will prefer Bangkok or Tokyo for a vibrant Asian city, where they retain their own culture and blend it with cosmopolitanism.
Please show video time date Stamp. Show flight schedule statistics for factual presentation.
There are quite a few countries in the world I don't want to visit - even if I get travel and accommodation paid for.
*This is the best thing I want to hear right now!*
Oh memories of the lockdowns. Terrifying!! I understand why anyone would leave!!
I heard about this. Look at how busy it is, how do you even get on time to your plane???
Do these people so confused by the emptiness of these international airports unaware of how hostile not only government policy, but also society in the PRC in general has become to foreigners? You can’t simply have their business from them stating/visiting without actually being welcoming to them for doing so.
Not sure many people want to visit an Orwellian society
What I don't understand is the disconnect between huge swaths of Shanghai being closed down, and the "official numbers" saying that there was still an increase of 2% in the tax revenue. Exactly where did that increase come from if all those shops closed down?
-Traffic tickets, fees and fines.
Massive tax increases on the remaining businesses would be my guess.
Departure tax?
It's fabrication. You assume that the 2% "increase" as reported by state agencies are factual and accurate. Take it with a grain of salt.
Breathing tax 🤣🤣
I was in Beijing two months ago and Capital Airport was almost the same as Shanghai Pudong. Everything was closed with almost nothing to eat or drink and no shops open 😒
Shanghai was the wurst travel experience I ever had , I will never fly with a China company trough China ever again.
Why is official Pudong airport passenger throughput data for Oct. 2023 still 5,434,500 persons???
Turns out people don't want to visit countries that are hostile to foreigners, who knew?

My understanding is that now when you first enter the PRC you are required to download a certain "App" onto your phone. No thanks.
My first trip to the PRC was in 1997 and my last in 1998. I thought at that time how similar it was with the ROC in the late '60s and '70s when I lived there. Oh my, has times changed. Seems the PRC has somewhat caught up the ROC in infrastructure but have to fine tune things concerning quality control.
I absolutely enjoyed my visits to the PRC and want to go back after I retire from work. The only thing that holds me back is I feel the government is being too intrusive into my life history.
I wonder if posting this response has put me in the PRC CCP "system" ?

I love empty airports like we had during plandemic. Everything went so quick! But for food and drinks you have to care for yourself, no problem at all. and who needs all this overpriced stuff from duty free shops? I buy what I need or want during my stays in other countries
omfg, i got a job to sydney domestic. used to be good at finding obscure places there.
after an hour, the third time walking the length of the place with no signs, or clue of where i actually was supposed to be... added on top of 40 degree heat and humidity, wearing gumboots cus i ride a moto and it had rained earlier...
i was truly fed up. gave up. someone else got the job.

was awesome to see a completely deserted airport though! had to go do a lap of the international as well, just to see... got hassled by the feds... only people i saw...

Soon, China will host the cleanest airports in east asia.
There are still several flights a day from several airlines to London Heathrow UK because I live near this airport though how full they are I wouldn’t know that’s why I’m surprised by this story
Mostly Chinese people and people with transit flights to other destinations.

They need to simplify the visa application process. E-visa is surely the way to go? Especially for people from the more trustworthy countries.
They need to grow the f up as a country and a people and stop being such a untrustworthy moralless trash pile
That's not the problem. The problem is the dictatorship of Xi and his arbitrary security laws that allow them to arrest anyone. Globally ppl don't feel safe going there.
Yeah, right that's it. Uh try possible arbitrary arrests detainment because of recent laws passed by the CCP.
China is not a country easy to visit alone without a tour operator. Everything is working through WeChat, no one accepts cash anymore, impossible to find a cab, they are all on didi.. and many other issues for foreigners.
Who decides which countries are the "most trustworthy"
wow

Pudong is ok. I love Pu Xi more.
Traveling to china is veing controlled by the government. Foreigners have to repor to the police department when they arrive, foreign tourists can only stay at controlled government designated accomodations, foreign tourists can only buy train, plane ticket at designated passport controlled windows, foreign touripay more for everything. The sceneries are beautiful but full of scams. Why go to china? Why foreign government don't reciprocate with all the same treatment to chinese travellers? Ask you congress man if this is fair???
