    I recommend not purchasing the Ridge Wallet. Design and strength 10/10. Functionality 0/10.
    The wallet is designed for younger kids that have 1 CC card, Drivers license and a few bucks cash. That’s it.
    For us older adults, we have multiple cards, IDs, insurance, etc. To pull out a specific card is EXTREMELY difficult, annoying and has no functionality. So you’re inclined to organize the card from most used to least used (front to back), doesn’t solve the issue. You have to take out your entire stack of cards and sieve through it to find the one you want. Then cram it all back in, while it catches in the band and further delaying the process that can be so easy.
    If you’re a kid buy it.
    If you’re an adult, do not buy.

      As an "older" I appreciate your comment. All these minimalist wallets look great - if all you have is credit cards. I was wondering where to put my driver's license, registration, insurance card, vaccine card, medical / dental / vision cards, and, yes, my AARP card!

    • @christianbrooks9155
      @christianbrooks9155 Před rokem +3

      @@njwebwiz how often do you even use half that stuff though? Would it not be easier to keep it somewhere safe in your house, and grab it when you need it? 12 cards can handle: ID, debit card, credit card, insurance card (car), health 3 health insurance cards, and 5 more cards you may need. What the hell else are you carrying? and why?

    • @bryan__m
      @bryan__m Před 7 měsíci

      @@christianbrooks9155 the rarer I use something the less likely I am to remember to grab it when I need it. Prime example is the vaccination card. Nobody cares about them any more except for one event I go to 4 times a year. It takes up 0 space in a hidden pocket of my normal wallet, but wouldn't fit in a Ridge. If I happen to forget the card they won't let me into the event, and it's a 7-hour round trip to go home and get it.
      Plus, I like knowing the once a year I need to find the insurance card I can open my wallet with my eyes closed and still find it if I needed to. With something like the Ridge, I could probably fit all the cards I need in there, but I don't want to have to touch my once-per-year cards every time I need to get something out of the wallet.

    It’s a very nice looking wallet but my reasons are that cards with raised characters don’t fit well, there’s no separate compartment for ID, carrying cash is limited, you have to sift through your cards and 90 to 140 dollars for a wallet is a little absurd.

    • @kendallfleming5858
      @kendallfleming5858 Před 2 lety +14

      You dislike the wallet for its very designed purpose? Most are running their cards with raised characters in their Apple/Google wallets. Most carry one card on them in the wallet just in case the digital POS isn’t working or Apple or Google Pay isn’t accepted with that particular vendor. The point of the wallet is to be minimalist, if they made a compartment for your ID you may as well just stick with the traditional folding wallet or they’d have to make the design more bulkier. Yes carrying cash is limited as it should be, the average person isn’t trying to carry more than $20-40 bucks in their wallets just in case they need emergency cash and that’s it. $90-140 for a wallet is insane? No it’s made with material that’s made to last and not quit on you plus Ridge offers lifetime guarantee and product replacement free of charge. I think you’ve been stuck on the traditional wallet for so long. It’s why you out your 2 most used 💳‘a in the front and back. I have it and it frees up insane space in your pocket!

    • @CarnEvil716
      @CarnEvil716 Před 2 lety +1

      @@kendallfleming5858 it’s tempting, but I wouldn’t put this in my back pocket, I would always be wondering if it’s still there… then putting it in my front pockets will just bulk up my phone or my keys. Plus then I would have two useless pockets in the back. Usually wear jeans, so I guess I’ll stick with the normal wallets for now. Don’t get me wrong good wallet, just not for everyone.

    • @kendallfleming5858
      @kendallfleming5858 Před 2 lety +4

      @@CarnEvil716 You’re not supposed to put it in your back pocket. It’s part of its functionality, for you to put it in your front pocket or side pocket of your pants so it’s harder for a criminal to simply come by and “yoink” it from you. I can understand always wondering if it’s still there, I did that a lot after I first ordered my Ridge wallet and carried it around for two weeks. Yet, after a while it was great because of how it frees up so much space and is just flat out more modern in feel and doesn’t give your pants that “wallet print” because your wallet is so thick and has so much pressure on it when you sit down. Most people are wearing their keys on a key ring or key loop that affixes and hangs freely from a belt loop. It’s uncomfortable period having your keys in your pocket unless you only have 3 keys. The phone I somewhat get. As far as useless pockets, so what. I thought you’d want more free space not occupied space. I also purchased their key holder which is also carbon fiber and insanely effective. I have my 6 keys, AirTag and Car Key & it has a belt clip in case you want to put it on your belt and it makes 0 noise when you walk which also frees up space in my jeans and only my phone is an issue. I don’t care to use every pocket simply because it’s there. I was stuck in my old ways of using a traditional wallet for over 35 years! Then I got tired of every time I sit down the wallet presses against me. The Ridge wallet takes some getting used to, but it’s great! Unless you’re that guy that has 30 cards in your wallet for no reason.

    Overall, good video. However, I've had my doubts about the Ridge wallet and it's certainly been solidified.
    Minimalism is not the way to go for me and the fact everybody is leaning so hard into it is aggravating. I don't want a "going out" wallet or a "travelling" wallet, I want one that does everything I need it to, every time.
    I don't like carrying cash, but my leather wallet has hidden compartments for cash, much better than someone who may steal my wallet and has access to literally everything that may be there whereas some compartments in my current wallet really take some know-how to get to.
    I also need to carry some paper identification cards, such as my voter ID and it just doesn't look like it would play well in this wallet.
    Additionally, accessing cards in the middle seems rather tedious. In my current wallet, there's no fanning out or anything like that and then fighting to place it back in. Just unbutton the card pouch, slide what wallet I want out and then back in, done in 5 seconds. The Ridge seems certainly like it has the capability to double or triple that time and I hate that when I'm at self checkouts. I'm usually going pretty fast at self checkouts because I want to get in and get out as well as getting out of other people's way, it just seems rather inconvenient.
    A standard wallet is capable of holding other items that may be important such as receipts or coupons or more. Sometimes if I want to make a decision on something that I can't decide on that's inconsequential (like deciding on where to eat,) I have a gold coin I like to flip to decide. That's not a possibility with the Ridge.
    Again, back to the usability and multiple wallets, why would I spend time switching cards from wallet to wallet depending on the occasion rather than just saving time in general and having one small and compact wallet that already does everything for me? The Ridge seems to be a total waste of time and money sadly, no matter how much I find the (Ridge)Red attractive.

    I downvote videos like twice a year, and it looks like this one is one of those. The reason is the click-baity title that benefits your own metrics by making interested viewers take their time and watch it. However, it wastes that time, especially when the viewer is familiar with the base features of the product. I don't see anything different in your video, compared to ads and most other reviews, except for the gold version of the wallet. Unboxing and first looks is not worth the title of "Watch Before You Buy". I expected someone with months of experience giving all the details of their experience with different examples - I felt cheated, so I downvoted your video.

    Thank you for making this video and showing how it’s used. My climbing partner suggested I check out their wallets.
    Too minimalistic! Sure, I can stuff 12 cards in there, but at what practical price? Then I’m all-too-likely playing 12-card-pickup, as well as sorting through them to take them out every stinkin’ single time unless I go way out of my way to insert them back in in a very particular order each time.
    Another consideration with that design that has me properly concerned is how much it wears out cards especially for their edges and magnetic stripes because they’ll always be rubbing on each other with pressure. Cards need to last longer than the wallet’s warranty, and I’ve had regular-use debit cards get very worn with nowhere near as much rubbing/scraping as I’d expect this would inflict.
    This isn’t great design for usability beyond 2 cards and some bills, and it’s clearly more destructive to what it is supposed to protect than not having a wallet at all. It may look neat (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) to many, but way too expensive for its functional design. The one useful functional aspect that isn’t a problem that it has is the RFID shielding.
    It won’t look nearly as sophisticated, but this reaffirms my decision to design and 3D-print a better wallet design that meets my needs, one of those being easier to handle, combined with better protecting what I carry in it as another major one. Adding RFID shielding is a simple thing to add that I can’t 3D-print ;)

    Don't see much use for this. Still too big for me. I rarely carry cash, and when I do it is in my front pocket with a money clip, so it's petty small. I use an apple wallet on the back of my phone. 1 Drivers license, 1 credit card, 1 medical insurance card. I figure it would be good to have the medical card in case of a car accident or something, where I couldn't respond. Everything else is stored in my phone. Nice idea if you didn't have a smartphone, but who doesn't these days.
    Have you seen one of the ads from Ridge Wallet? Compares a big chunky leather wallet with 7 cards to the Ridge with 4. And of course the leather wallet doesn't double up cards in ever pocket to add bulk. Hahaha.
