  • Photo Brother (you can tell it's him because of the camera clicking) chases the famed Essex Steam Train along its route through the Connecticut River Valley at the end of July 2022. Pulling the train is the 2-8-2 Mikado steam locomotive #40, built by Alco in 1920.
We start our chase across the road from Essex Station, where the train is just about to depart on its way northward, past Essex Hardware and the Witch Hazel Works. We then meet the train again at Old Deep River Rd, where the train has picked up its pace. Next, you see the train across the water at Essex St and then finally down at Dock Rd.
The train then reverses back to Deep River Landing, where it will disembark passengers for the riverboat ride, the locomotive to run around to the back of the train and allow for the Essex Clipper Diner (Lunch?) Train to pass, being pulled by the GE 80-ton diesel locomotive 0902. The steam train then departs back to Essex station with passengers from the previous steamboat ride. After the last scheduled run of the day, the steam train returns to Deep River Landing to pick up the last riverboat passengers.
This train was filmed on July 24th and July 28th, 2022.
