So why did it take so long for the next installment in George Millers apocalyptic world? And why is he shifting focus from the titular character, Max, to the now beloved Furiosa? Because miller was suing Warner bros. if there wasn’t this problem, it’s likely that furiosa and the fury road sequel could have came out a lot sooner

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. If we never got another movie from George Miller or in the Mad Max universe, I'd be perfectly happy given how ridiculously amazing Fury Road was.

From what I learned, the movies are all Tall tales from people who describe their encounter with Max. It's not really linear other than the 1st movie which is his origin

@@lorddoma6637 This is true. I don't blame anyone, because people can watch or not watch any movie they please. But not giving this one a chance because it wasn't exactly what they wanted will prevent them from ever getting the movie they did want. As far as I am aware, The Wasteland was indeed supposed to be a proper Mad Max movie.
I also disagree that there is no room for Furiosa to have her own movie in the Mad Max universe. In Jungian terms, Max and Furiosa are complementary to the world of the Wasteland-one representing the Animus, the other representing the Anima.
So wait was the point of the video that because the lawsuits we got the prequel before the sequel? How so? Could the director not just decide to do the sequel first? I don't think the question of this video was answered (unless I missed something) although I do appreciate knowing why it took this long for either to be made.
Furiosa was written before Fury Road was even filmed. At one point, Miller had wanted to film them at the same time, but he was talked out of it. After that, he pushed to make Furiosa an animated movie before Fury Road. The studio wanted a Mad Max movie, though.
Both scripts for Furiosa and Mad Max Fury Road were written during the long development of Mad Max Fury Road, Miller wanted to shot both movies back to back but during pre production of Fury Road (at least after 9/11 happened), he decided that Fury Road is a priority first
Nerdstalgic is dumb. Miller setup Furiosas bakcstory well and created the seeds for a prequel like this. A sequel would be less interesting, as they take control of the citadel. There can be a lot of conflict there too, but the themes would be very different from the suffering/hope and oppression/feminism of the first movie, the prequel follows in similar themes.
@@wile123456 You can't assume a sequel would be less interesting. You simply continue to world build and further explore this world. It doesn't have to be about the Citadel. You can go beyond the Wasteland if needed. the character of Dementus could have worked in a sequel. I enjoyed Furiosa but would have preferred a sequel.
@@wile123456the mad max series never had continuity (well, until Furiosa), Max always goes from one place to another and meets new people, so a sequel to Fury Road shouldn't happen on the Citadel

In a interview Miller said that he had some problems with Tom Hardy during the filming of mad max. For some reason Hardy preferred to stay in his trailer. Probably a major reason why Miller went for a prequel since having a star that is hard to work with might not be a nice experience for a guy who is 79 years old.
My understanding is that they wrote the prequels before ever shooting Fury Road and that this was always Miller's plan in terms of production order. We have another video about Fury Road were I talk about that a little bit.
@@Nerdstalgic Maybe, but WB would have never let him make this film if Fury Road and the character of Furiosa wasnt popular. Incidentaly, its actually funny because a lot of people seem to feel like Furiosa was the main character in Fury Road, but if you actaully go back and watch it, she isnt, and she is in the film nowhere near as much as Max.

Whats up with people saying Tom Hardy's Max is the feral kid from Road Warrior or the Gyro Captain kid in Thunderdome...because if this was real it would Make sense that the name Mad Max is not just a person anymore, but more like a title passed around the wasteland because there are bound to be mad max types somewhere in the wastes like that Jack character from Furiousa he is almost a mad max character too.
The same people think that the spider creature in Dune part 2 was the wife of that doctor from Dune part 1. They need everything to be connected to something they already know and don't realize how much it shrinks the world.
Max is clearly the same guy in the first three films.

Thunder dome was ok. The Road Warrior was fantastic. If the technology would have been available, like in Mad Max Furiosa, it would have been EPIC!

I disagreed with comments below. Saw this movie last nite. It was spectacular. I had low expectation coming in. Expected to be bored. I just wanted to see the usual George Miller Mad Max action sequences on IMAX but I got much more. It was a hell of a ride. I was completely lost in the world of Mad Max. Forgot I was in a theater. Had to run to the restroom cuz I didn' want to miss anything.

Yea it looks cool, and has a ton of explosions and Big budget action scenes, but where are the Stakes? Furiosa life isn't danger, Immortain Joe isn't in danger, this makes the movie feel pointless. Like Rogue One and Solo.

In the movie, realistically if an older woman told a warlord like Immortus Joe "you cannot own another human being' she would be blown in the face by a shotgun blast, but most likely she should have been Thanos long before that and would have been in a more realistic movie. You can in fact own another human being. You might not want to hear that, but you can and the essence of post-apocalyptic setting is that there is no state to stop such acquisitions. In fact, states could arise that protect the industry of slavery itself. Plus, did you know what we call Student Loans is a form of Debt slavery so in a world where you are taught slavery bad, wrong, evil, there are in fact forms of legalized slavery. Say you get the loan? don't pay it, who is going to extract something from you? The federal state that is who. So the same peopel who claim slavery is wrong have extended a system whereby you can become an indentured servant.

I think part of the reason is budget you add tom Hardy and Chris Hemsworth the budget balloons Ana Taylor joy however is probably a way cheaper option than Hardy?

I truly believe the reason director George Miller hasn't done another Mad Max centric movie is probably because of Tom Hardy. According to that BTS book about the making of Fury Road, it sounds like Miller and Hardy also didnt get along at all, alongside Hardt and Therons on set fueds
Also let's not forget, Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max Fury Road at the box office by opening at number 1, while the latter opened at number 2. Don't forget that!!

So the studio wanted a sequel but miller wanted the movies to make sense hence why he wanted to make a prequel first

It is painful and a sad reality where corporations not just film will do anything not to pay what they promise and their staff. They want to maximise profits through extremely unethical and even illegal means.
It’s always the executives who would do anything just to justify their 10 to 100 million dollar salaries. Unless the mass of people voted against this and spread awareness; money talks for now.
After the lawsuit was settled, I wish they had just greenlit Mad Max: The Wasteland and shot Furiosa and Wasteland back to back because i'm worried about George's health, y'know?

The reason is because Charlize Theron was the MVP of Mad Max Fury Road so, logically we get a prequel of Theron's character without Charlize Theron in it.

I will always spread this word until ppl know it, Mad Max Fury Road is not a continuation of the first three (the trilogy). Miller has said it is a reboot!
Think of it more as a director coming back to their work with a new set of eyes. Like what Michael Mann did turning L.A. Takedown into Heat.

I was a fan of the 80s films, but not fury road. It didnt give max enough time to develop his charisma as Mel Gibson did in the earlier films, even to a newer lead. Given the age of newer filmography as well, everything doesn't need to be high resolution. Modern films like blade runner and dune give a better callback to their predecessors for world building and excellent use of lighting and drawing scenes out to build plot.. ie I felt the chase scenes of the movie were terribly cartoonish. cue the guitar flame guy. 😂 Hope this new one isnt as bad as fury road.
Technically Fury Road was also a prequel since it takes place before Beyond Thunderdome.

Anya Joy is a good actress but i think we dont need this prequel just yet. It will be good to have a Sequel first before doing this prequel. Imagine Tom Hardy going toe to toe with Hemsworth. The Movies nowaday is so much about strong female protagonist can we just go back to the Male protagonist. Tom Hardy did really encapsulate how Max should act why not give him 2 movies before dong this prequel. The movie does look good but Man i would like to see Hardy again doing Max. Miller is getting old and it took decades to make a reboot of Mad Max i wish he just do 3 films with Max in the lead role before doing spin off's like this. The only movie or media with no female protagonist coming up on movie screen is Deadpool and Wolverine i hope after that super hero movies /action movies go back to male protagonist.

Miller was given the green light to make 4 more movies in the Max world. Prequel and 3 sequels. Only makes sense to do the prequel first. If you even know what prequel means. It's hard to be excited for a movie that you already know the ending too. Where are the stakes? We know our main characters aren't in real danger. Prequels just don't work unless you're Star Wars.
