I dont agree with all Pearl's opinions but she expresses herself so clearly and with such passion that I'm always interested in what she has to say. I love Frieda's style of questioning too which IS probing but so gentle and straightforward that Pearl rarely takes offence. A great channel.

@@amandamorton-king2112 I was just commenting on her interviewing techniques...since she is very familiar with the community. I hope non Jewish ppl check out other expressions of Judaism. The fact that this group actively discourages girls seeking higher education is disturbing.
Most of the girls are very happy in that community. Judaism as a whole does not discourage higher education though most orthodox men and women now try to attend Jewish run universities because of the progressive agenda and anti Israel rhetoric in most universities today. I attended Brooklyn college and have a masters degree. Nearly all my female contemporaries have a masters level degree or higher. In yeshivish circles higher education among females in particular is actually encouraged. Though recently so many frum women have entered the business world and there are many
Women owned businesses out there that college degrees are being seen as a financial burden to a young couple. So there has been some move away from college education more recently. Btw- chassidic women work and many many chassidic women own their own businesses. They are in retail, health care products, medical billing etc. Jews are not a monolith. We are nuanced just like any other people. And even among the satmar crowd you have all kinds of people.
I feel wrapped in the arms of love and kindness listening to this. All we need is coffee and cake and I would sit for hours at the table.of knowledge! Thank you.

As a german, I feel so ashamed for the actions of my grandparents during the Nazi era. As I barely knew my grandparents and as they never talked about that time (except that war was a very bad time for them), I have no idea what they really did.
I am not guilty for what they did, but I feel ashamed. And I‘m so sorry for what happened, I really don‘t have words to express what I feel.
Pearl is such a lovely woman, I can really feel her passion she has for her life and all the things she does.
I‘m not a religious person, I describe myself as an agnostic, but I respect of course other people‘s beliefs and it enlightens me to listen to Pearl, who speaks with so much kindness and wisdom and she is so much down to earth at the same time. She‘s just lovely!
If I should ever visit New York, I would book a tour with you, Frieda.

As a Jewish person do not be ashamed of your German heritage but rather that part of German history. All people have the potential for greatness but also dishonor.
@@user-op7uc6jb9k Being ashamed for my grandparents also means being ashamed for this part in history. „My grandparents“ is a phrase which includes the grown up people in Germany of that era.
I love Pearl! Her witness to her faith makes me live my faith as a Roman Catholic more fully. I felt blessed when she affirmed what I also understand: live the life that G.od gave you as a holy and faithful person in the way that brings you to Him. For Pearl it is as a Satmar Jew, for me it is as a Roman Catholic.
I could listen to Pearl all day long. I so appreciate her honesty and her willingness to speak so openly even when it is a personal subject.
We could all use a Pearl in our lives. ❤
How I wish ❤
I just lost my father. In my youth he was a terrible person and my mother enabled him. It fell to me as the only unmarried sibling to look after them in their last years. I was to inherit the house for this since I had "nothing" else. I also don't believe that anyone should die alone unless they want to.
I always loved them but I was deeply hurt, traumatized, and angry about what they had put us through. It wasn't until I saw the sad and lonely lives they lived in their last days, that I began to really pity them. In the end I was all they had and I was there (in the beginning at least) for selfish reasons.
Comfort came from me knowing that I took the best care I could have of them both l, even though they hadn't done the same for us. I had to decide whether to be bitter and cruel or better. I chose to be better and that helped the healing of my heart.
For me, I honor them and their memories but speaking the truth about who they were, how they got that way, and how they ended up. The hope is that someone hears their story and breaks the cycle of abuse.
Just because you start one way, it doesn't mean you have to end up that way.

You have decided to show love to them instead of resentment and anger, and that is very beautiful - even though I’m sure there must have been hard places. In letting Hashem’s love flow through us to help the unloveable: we are the ones who receive the blessing in this life and in the world to come also. I, too, did the best I could and felt better for it.

I would not have done this unless there had been the financial compensation of a house to inherit. We are all put on this earth to learn and if someone doesn't allow us to take the consequences of our behaviour that means they are inhibiting our spiritual growth which is not the kindness it seems. In fact, we ALL eventually die alone; no one can spare us that. But you are a good soul and I hope life is easier for you now.
Everytime I see this conversations between Frieda and Mrs. Pearl, it warms my heart. It looks like a loving relationship between a mother and a daughter.

How are they supposed to teach the world about Hashem and be the example to the goyim he wants them to be unless they avail themselves of modern multimedia tools to get the message out?
I'm just imagining Pearl's parents cuddling her and looking at their newborn baby in New Palestine camp and saying, "We've got to carry on for her." They knew she was wonderful but how could they imagine what a light she would be. I'm inspired by Pearl to be grateful, to laugh, to live with wonder, and to love. This episode was packed full of so many new understandings! Cheers to the brilliant interviewer and the gifted videographer. You did it again!

We need to share those stories, so history won't repeat itself.
My favorite question was, "How did the Holocaust affect you personally?" I didn't realize that Pearl's parents had such a hard time when they came to New York; so sad. I don't know if you asked this question in another video, but "How many children does Pearl have?" What do they do know for a living? What's her skin routine? She looks so young for her age. Great interview Frieda.
Unfortunately about every Jew has a story like Pearl's -- parents and grandparents with enormous trauma, who couldn't have had the help they needed to heal to raise children happily, healthily, and safely....and it's only two or three generations later that we're able to do the work to heal this instead of passing it along as generational trauma. It's a painful, frightening dark mark in our lives.
I’d like to point out that nearly every Jew you see has come to this country poverty stricken, traumatized, and discriminated against. My father was born in 1939. He survived the war by being hidden by French resistance farmers who risked their lives for him. He came back to a mother he didn’t know who was trying to rebuild her life with two other children plus the daughter of a cousin. It was a very brutal life. School was traumatic. Antisemitism didnt disappear with VE Day. The teachers and principals would torment my father and his brothers. When they came to America he was the “ green” one who spoke a foreign language. Here is the part that the whole world doesn’t get- he and his contemporaries clawed their way through the terrible pain and loss ( my father had lost four grandparents, at least 12 aunts and uncles and their spouses, dozens of cousins..- but Mel Gibson would tell you it’s all made up) and had a PhD by his mid twenties while also becoming a rabbi. This from a child who thought he was catholic. Then we get told how privileged we are and how we should feel ashamed of our success. Well read Jewish history. We don’t even get one generation without our people being decimated somewhere in the world. But we stopped worrying about whether everyone hates us. We know they do. And instead we take care of each other. We have organizations for everything - young mothers, widows, divorcees, wedding gowns for brides, medical referrals and equipment lending , schools for special needs children just to name a few. We didn’t come here with golden spoons. We worked hard.
Pearl seems like such a kind woman. I’d love to be at her Shabbos table. :)

I’m a devout Catholic and one comment from this video that sums it all up is “be good and do good, God loves you as you are”. Christians, Muslims, and Jews, Pearl expressed it perfectly for all. Thank you Frieda for your videos and for introducing us to the Hasidic life and to Pearl.
As a Catholic myself, I follow what Jesus said to bring the true faith, the Catholic faith, to all. Unfortunately, this is looked down upon since Vat II- 1960's & onwards. To love others truly means this.

@@colleenaase1042Jews don’t believe in hell. Never once is a place called hell in the Hebrew Bible. Nor is there really a place called heaven- shamayim means the skies. There is an afterlife in the world to come - no one knows what that is although some think they know. However there is a place called Gehenna which like a cleansing place for most people’s souls before they get to the next level or world. No Fire & brimstone. The Master of the Universe doesn’t torture people for eternity.
What is destiny of the real evil among us? Who knows? No one really knows since there is no one to ask who can prove anything. I believe the real evil just die- the end - they lost their soul- unworthy of anything after death.
@@serenalouise The Ecumenical Council known as Vat II has been blamed for many things.....by Catholics who have not studied (or even skimmed) the documents, from it, or the century of preparation for it. They have only listened to "sound-bites" about it, from other poorly informed Catholics. In fact, evangelization both within the Church and in the world was a primary focus of the Vatican Council. It is an error to claim that evangelizing "is looked down upon since Vat II". It is also not believable to think that one is "bringing the true faith, the Catholic faith" to others by criticizing, or misrepresenting, its Apostolic Authority, the Authority which Christ Himself ordained and guarantees He will be with until the end of time.
I love Pearl! She reminds me of my Grandmother. I love the fact that despite different cultural backgrounds, we share the same universal values based on dignity, decency and righteousness.

Nothing in college prepared me for motherhood. I have learned more from being a mother and studying the Bible than anything I learned in college.

I think I've now seen all of the Pearl videos. What a lovely lady - she reminds me very much of my mother, lapsed Catholic but still spiritual. They would definitely find a kindred spirit in each other. I especially love that she still has a relationship with her son who left. And the way she stops to think before she answers, and doesn't shy away from difficult subjects or pretend things such as abusive marriages don't exist. Really fantastic series.

Thank you Frieda for your channel. I am a Christian and although I don’t agree with all Pearls statements, I really enjoy your conversations with her. I am currently live in Israel and I experienced the other side of Hasidic community. Two weeks ago my 9 year old daughter got attacked by a much older Hasidic boy. I didn’t expect such an aggressiveness from a child. And what’s sad it happens pretty frequently. The area where Hasidic community lives is the dirtiest place in our neighborhood. And they are not the nicest and well mannered people like Pearl at all. Non orthodox people here are so much nicer and kinder.
There is a group of Jews in Israel thst are quite aggressive and very disfunctional. They are very not typical of most observant Jews. They tend to cause trouble to anyone in their vicinity. Its nothing personal. They are not Hasidic. They do have the long sidelocks.
Pearl is a pearl indeed. Thank you for introducing her to us, I hang on her every word. You bring the best out in everyone you speak to. I always learn things and what is more, I think about your interviews often. You are making a positive difference to all of us who watch and therefore to your corner of the world. Thank you Frieda.

This is one of my very favorite CZcams channels! It’s hard to put into words all the reasons why I feel this way, and I don’t want to go on and on (which I could do because of how many thoughts emotions are evoked when watching Frieda and Pearl.) I will simply say that Pearl is an absolute blessing and inspiration! I give my sincere thanks to Frieda for her work in educating and sharing Orthodox Judaism to the secular community. I have learned so much more about their thoughts, feelings, and world views than just the outward representations that distinguish them. (I also am fascinated by and learning more about this as well.)
I’m going to end it here, as I feel myself composing more and more things to say, but I said that I would not go on and on.

That bodybuilding comment from Pearl got me thinking. What does exercise look like in her community? Is that even a thing (in the way that you see people jogging in the street or tai chi in the park)?
You go walking at night, especially over the bridge! women also organize workout classes in their dining rooms and basements, and there is a ton of swimming - with separate pools or hours for men and women. More and more people are picking up modern workout trends and “hitting the gym” but you never ever see hasidic runners.
dancing at weddings is frequent and its own workout.

My great-great grandfather was born in Papa in Hungary, part of the Jewish community there, and there's a surviving Hasidic community from there in Westchester county (the Pupa Hasidim). So I feel something of a kinship with Pearl - she's like my long lost tante.
My ancestor from Papa lost a lot of his extended family in the Holocaust - aunts and uncles and cousins. Learning about this has been one of the things that started me on the path of teshuva - I grew up in a completely assimilated family, but I've realized that I don't want my family's legacy to die out with me. Please let Pearl know that her words have been such an encouragement to me as I return to observance!
My grandfather studied in the Pupa yeshiva (academy) before the war. Pupa was a vibrant Jewish community.

I am not Jewish. When I was 12, I read a paperback book my parents had titled Auschwitz. It had a deep, profound effect on me that has lasted my whole life. The contents were horrible. The subject matter very difficult to read. How could this happen?
The opinions of those directly effected by the Holocaust hold utmost respect. But I think it should be taught so it will NEVER be forgotten or denied.

My uncle (my dad's oldest brother) was born in a German DP camp in 1950 before he and his Czech parents boarded a ship called the Anna Salen to Australia. Lol, leaving an Eastern European winter to a Western Australian summer with very, very little English. My grandmother firmly shut the door on her former life (whatever that was, she took her history to the grave though my DNA test shows at least one of my grandparents was Jewish) and never spoke much about it, forbidding my grandfather from speaking about it either. She became a Jehovah's Witness and he became an alcoholic. I'm currently pursuing a conversion to get back to where we started, spiritually speaking.
The Holocaust destroyed innumerable people but it damaged many, many more who, in their pain, hurt their children inadvertently. It's only now, a couple of generations on with better understanding of psychology, of psychological and emotional health that we're able to start to heal some of these generational wounds and curses. I doubt we'll ever be free of this...blot...on our history but we can live beyond it while remembering those who were lost, those who suffered so horrifyingly and those who suffer still, while not allowing it to happen again.
I love your videos with Pearl. She's SUCH a treasure, so wonderful. We might not agree on all things but she's honest, earnest, and kind, and I'm certain a brilliant shining light to both her family and Hashem.
My sister was born in a DO camp in Bavaria Germany. She also came to the US when she was two years old.
