    Its the comebacks we will cherish hesaid. 1980 the phillies and astros played a back and forth 4 outta 5 extra inning brawl. No mention of the best series i ever seen.

    I have a friend whose a Braves fan who was born in 1993, but I saw the Braves losing to the Phillies because they hit the wall in their sweep against the Mets. The Braves 2022 season matches their 1993 season.
    I do think the Braves will back very soon and will contend again. Their loss shows how difficult it is to win anything.

      Very true. Philly played very well too. They dominated the 2022 series vs Atl.

      And Mark, your friend is finding out the hard way presently how difficult it is to beat the resilient Phillies! After tonight the 2023 "more of a prohibitive" favorite Braves are once again in a hole with even less margin for error! If the Braves don't win on Sunday, history will more than likely repeat itself! They can ill afford to be in a 2-0 hole going to Philly!

    Not taking anything away from the hated Phillies as I am a Braves fan, but after that historic race with the Giants, they were a little burned out. I remember I got spoiled there thinking the Braves would at least get to the World Series and this was a little heartbreaking.

    • @joshyoung4064
      @joshyoung4064 Před 2 lety

      I agree with you to a certain extent but being burned out does not excuse that Game 4 loss at home to Danny Jackson where the Braves once again made an art form of coming close and then choking at the plate as they left 11 people on base in that game. If they win that game it's 3-1 Braves with Game 5 at home. No way Phillies come back and win that series.

    • @ADEAL918
      @ADEAL918 Před 2 lety

      @@joshyoung4064 especially when the runs Smoltz allowed were both unearned. Smoltz only lost four games in his entire post-season career (15-4) and in TWO of those losses-Game 4 of this series and Game 5 of the ‘96 World Series-he allowed only unearned runs.

    • @dfcintron
      @dfcintron Před 2 lety

      Had the Giants advanced, the Phillies would've pounded their young and tired pitching staff. Beck was used like 8 of the last 9 games and was giving up runs left and right.

    • @dfcintron
      @dfcintron Před 2 lety +2

      In the 92, 93, 96, and 97 postseason the braves NEVER won close playoff games. Except for the Cabrera game.

    • @ckendall67
      @ckendall67 Před rokem

      I think even David Justice after the series admitted this fact. 'The magic went out' I believe he quoted. They'd worked so hard to overtake the Giants & take the division crown on the final day, they did grab a 2-games-to-1 lead on the Phils, but then they just flamed out over the final 3 games. As a Blue Jays fan, honestly, I was relieved. I kinda thought the Braves would avenge the Blue Jays in the '93 World Series( especially with the addition of Greg Maddux to their rotation ), but after the Phils beat the Braves, I think a lot of Jays fans were even more excited about possibly repeating as WS champs at the time because the Braves were out of the way( even though the Phils were just as gritty & scrappy an opponent in the WS as it turned out ).

    It's never explained how the Phillies got home field advantage.....

    • @acetanahashi8045
      @acetanahashi8045 Před rokem +3

      From 1969-1993, home field was alternated between divisions no matter the record. In odd numbered years, the AL West and NL East winners had home field while in even numbered years, the AL East and NL West winners had home field.

    • @ckendall67
      @ckendall67 Před rokem +1

      Homefield advantage rotated from year to year at the time. I wish people would actually do their research on this stuff. All one has to do is look it up, say, on Wikipedia.

    • @ckendall67
      @ckendall67 Před rokem

      @@acetanahashi8045 I'm old enough to remember this and also nobody in baseball complained about it at the time because it was the norm. But obviously not enough fans have done their research on this information. They just keep asking 'Why'd one team have homefield advantage when they had fewer wins than the other?' Man, people need to look it up because I see these comments all the time here.

  • @dfcintron
    @dfcintron Před 2 lety

    After this game I honestly thought the braves had them. The Phillies overreacted like they'd won game 7 of the WS (carrying batista off the field). The veteran braves shrugged it off. At least until game 4, the late innings of THAT game turned the series. Thompsons catch, the bad call at 1B, and Gant unable to deliver with men on base time and time again.

    • @ckendall67
      @ckendall67 Před rokem

      Braves ripped off 23 runs scored over the next two games, it looked like they would run the Phillies out of the postseason. But it was not to be.
