  • With so many different types of meditation on offer, how do we know which to choose? In this short video I offer a few guiding principles to help us make those choices.

Beth, I would love to see an explanation of what a course meditation object is as opposed to a more subtle one. Maybe a few examples that could show how we move to more and more subtle objects, as the mind increasingly calms down. Lovely video though. You're the only person I've ever heard make this distinction around meditation objects and how they should always be a little more subtle than your mind.

A succinct and simply explained topic. The beginning of meditation is often misunderstood

Thank you for these great tips. It helped me more than watching and reading tons of videos and books.
I have a question: if we choose breath as the object, I have read that the anapana spot in visuddhimaga system must be either tip of the nose or the area above upper lip; that area. And we should only focus on the breath touching and passing that area and we should never go with the breath up inside the nostrils etc. I wonder how deep or short should our breath be? How many seconds should our one full breath(both inhale and exhale) take for the best result?

Hello, thank you for your question. Please breathe naturally when practising mindfulness of breathing. You might like to watch my video on mindfulness of breathing for more details.

Thank you for these videos. They are really helpful. If you please could answer this, I would like to know if I can meditate with the pulsating sensation in my gut area. I had a spontenous kundalini awakening. I tend to feel this area of my body pulsating a lot. It could be a meditation object?

Hello, it would be good to speak with you one on one about this. It could be a possible object for a while, though it is unlikely to be able to carry your practice very deep as it probably a little coarse. It will depend on the stability of the object over time and your relationship to it.

@@bethupton1286 I am observing this sensation, but indeed felt not stable for a meditation object. I am still trying to find something that can work for me. Thank you so much for your answer, Beth! I appreciate the work you do ❤

I wonder if focusing on silence is too subtle? I think I hear a light ringing in my head when I focus on silence. Silence for me is truth. Silence is not a meditation object so not sure if I'm even on the right track to find peace.

as long as it works for you and increases your focus level. if you don't get lost in your thoughts when you focus on it i dont see why it would be too subtle. good luck!

Only continuous awareness on breath touching point will be lead to the nibbana
